In every campus, restaurant, or other public places, we can see many people look down at their phones and ignore their surroundings. What are they checking on? Most people are checking on their text messages, Facebook, Twitter, or other social networking. Nowadays social media has been taking over most people’s free time and being an indispensable part of their lives. Some people think social media is helping us communicate with one another more convenient and efficient, on the contrary, social media also makes people less social in real life.
Many people prefer texting instead of talking in person. They use texting as their formal communication tool. “Americans ages 18-29 send and receive an average of nearly 88 text messages per day, compared to 17 phone calls” (Kluger). Young people tend to move their fingers rather than their mouths. They depend on texting to make any social connections. However, texting is not socializing. According to online Fine Dictionary website, “socializing is the act of meeting for social purposes” (Fine Dictionary). http://www.finedictionary.com/socializing.html People have social life because socializing is a beneficiary learning and communicating process. In addition, this process is based on face-to- face meetings. By meeting with others in real life, people express their thoughts through gestures, tones and faces. The real emotions cannot be hidden. However, texting is a way of communication which based on a totally different rule. People can easily move their fingers on phones to type something that they might never say in real life. In a text message, the real feeling can be a big trick. People may hide their real faces behind the phones and type something totally opposite. Is this considered a...

...People started realizing that social media is not really helping them experience real social life. What people really have to do is talking to people in real life and enjoying the present beautiful moments without holding a phone.
Social media has changed the way people interact with each other in recent years. It dose makes communication easier and more efficient, at the same time, the shortages came along with the benefits. People spend more time on social media than real life interactions, therefore, social media makes people less social nowadays. Fortunately, some people have realized this social phenomenon and started doing something significant to influence others in society. Technology is developing and advancing. Hopefully people could use it in a wise way to make more connections and communications, and make social media is more beneficiary for human life.
People spend more time staring at their phone than they do at each other. ANALYSIS Chris Morris’s “Is technology killing the human touch?” The purpose of this article is to inform that people spend more time on social networks than with family and friends. The author gives an example of how technology changes our behavior “that can impact communication, relationships and our day-to-day interactions with others” (Morris).
Texting is a quick way to avoid long drawn out conversations with a parent or family member. Calling others can be a hassle or seem awkward depending on who you’re dealing with. A technology analyst at Creative Strategies, Ben Bajarin, explains how the use of social interaction enhances communication (Zaslow). Although I agree with Bajarin up to a point, I can not agree with his overall conclusion that social interactions can lead to concrete bonds and forms of communication. Texting is a way to hide behind a screen and talk to others as they do the same. There are no real interactions occurring as one type. While texting is a way to express one 's feelings, it in no way expresses real social skills that one needs to thrive in society. In very few jobs can one go through the day and not interact with his or her coworkers or boss; so how does growing up texting all one’s thoughts prepare for the real world? It

Technology today is more relied upon than ever before. If one needs to call someone half way around the world, simply take out a cell phone and dial their number. Within thirty seconds, one can be speaking to that person just as if two people were conversing face-to-face. In the same manner, one has access to endless knowledge and resources by the push of a few buttons or the click of a mouse. The use of social media today is becoming more prevalent than ever before because of the convenience it offers.
In the Children’s Social Skills article by Katherine Bindley, Melissa Ortega said, “Clinically, I’m seeing it in the office. The high school kids who I do see will be checking their phones constantly. They’ll use it as an avoidance strategy. They’ll see if they got a text message in the two minutes they were talking to me.” I see this a lot in school and in other public places, I even do it sometimes, when I'm walking down the hall and someone is walking towards me I tend to pull out my phone and act like I am scrolling through social media or responding to a text just so I can avoid an awkward situation. Since technology has a grasp on people in society, a lot of times people aren't aware of what is going on around them. They would rather connect with people over the internet than interact face to face and it has come to a point where people are texting each other in the same room and or using their device to avoid social
In our day to day lives we socialize and interact with many different types of people, including family, friends, colleagues, or even complete strangers. Before technology people stayed in contact via regular mail, writing letters, telephone calls and face to face communication. Today the way in which we relate to others is completely different. We use social media for finding romance, seeking employment, or getting advice. This is where social networking and social media come into play. Many people may think that the use of social media is making them more social and more interactive with society. But others question if that is really the case. Is social media making us more or less social? Is it changing the way we interact with people on a daily basis? Is it having a more positive or negative impact on society?

Socialization prepares us for our life experiences. It can be considered a reverential foundation for society. We may not agree to some rules in society, but without socialization a civil society would cease to exist. In addition, any influences on the socialization process have a profound effect on how we function as a community with some of the more notable discovery’s being email and instant messaging. Electronic or “virtual” socializing has proved to be exceedingly more popular than the preceding face to face social interaction like dating, church and ...
Most people cannot even remember the time before social media was introduced. Social media has become a big part of our everyday lives and it is hard to think of the world without it now. Nowadays the number of places where the Internet is considered necessary is growing. There are more and more cities implementing public Internet access in zones like parks or squares (Gomez-Almaguer, Acosta-Olivo, Garcia-Quintanilla, and Jaime-Perez 69). Life before social media seemed so much calmer and productive. Nowadays almost everyone has their smartphone in their pocket or sitting on their desk while they are at work.
