Achondroplasia- statistically known to have an approximate prevalence of 1 in 25,000. My brother happened to be that one. Watching physicians practice both the science and more essentially the art of medicine on him has largely augmented my passion for medicine. Equally, I believe, my intellectual curiosity will find the opportunity for expression through the rigorous academic demands of the field. It is this combination that suggests medicine is best fit for both my mental stimulation and social development. My academic performance has laid an excellent foundation for further study, resulting in my nomination to represent my school among the top students of the nation and thus being awarded a scholarship by the Qatari government. Finishing my maths IGCSE a year early, gaining the outstanding …show more content…
During these 2 weeks I was exposed to a range of laboratory work such as, how to culture, infect and transfect cells, cell differentials and vaccine projects. I was overwhelmed by how research can have such a dynamic influence on the world, when I was introduced to an upcoming vaccine which promises to overcome addiction to nicotine. As for the clinical side: screening patients and attending chiefs' rounds, enriched my knowledge with insights into the day to day demands of the medical profession. Prior to this, Aspetar Orthopaedic Hospital exposed me to the field of Physiotherapy through assisting in patients' rehabilitation programs. The experience instilled in me the essence of compassion and empathy when dealing with those in pain. Undertaking further work experience at Muscat Eye Laser Centre, working there for two consecutive summers, I came to understand the value of logistics, confidentiality and
If I can turn back in time, I would advise my young self to join the Kaiser Permanente volunteering program sooner and to skip the small conversations in meetings. Those talks may seem necessary for the first few times, but this communication method can become meaningless since people do not interact on a personal level. Joining the program had supported me by allowing me to associate with various friends through teamwork and encouraged me to thrive beyond my comfort zone.

...ecause it gave me an opportunity to hear the perspective of other health care professionals that are not in the same field as me. I also got to learn what role each health care professional could contribute to the Triple Aim goal. Also, this experience would make it easier for me to work with other professionals during my course of study and after I graduate because I have been a little exposure to what it is going to be like discussing and trying to figure out ways we can contribute to the Triple Aim goal together as a team.
For undergraduate students looking to pursue a career in medicine, medical school can be a daunting financial endeavor. The Health Professions Scholarship Program is a military scholarship offered by the Army, Navy, and Air Force that covers all tuition and fees for one to four years at any accredited medical school or other qualifying professional program. The scholarship also gives the student a stipend for living expenses. In return for the aide, students incur an obligation to the military; students must serve one year of active duty and one year of Inactive Ready Reserve for each year they receive the scholarship. The student will also have to apply

Overall, I found this to be a great experience, as it allowed me to see more of what pediatric physical therapy entails. I like how therapy is not about just having the child perform an exercise 10 times, but the therapist makes it enjoyable for the child. However, I never really had an interest in development pediatrics and always felt if I did do pediatrics, I would want to be more on the sports and orthopedic end. Although I would not mind spending more time in a developmental pediatric clinic to see if I would grow more of interest, for I do love working and seeing kids
Involving in a national level campaign such as Pulse Polio Campaigns, in charge of arranging and dispensing the vaccines helped to reach a larger population. Coordinating and working as a team with different healthcare people helped to deliver a comprehensive care for my patients. Being the team leader for the non-profit charity providing financial help with free medications, and food helped me understand my patients beyond just the medical diagnosis, but the complex web of multiple factors in their overall health. I hope to use my experiences to continue working with community into my residency and also in my
Even before starting medical school, when people asked what I wanted to specialize in after graduating, I told them internal medicine. During medical school I really enjoyed learning about the various disease, how to treat this, how to manage that. When people asked if I would ever consider surgery, I would reply with “never” and “it’s not for me”.
In the Health Scholar Program, I will dedicate not only my time but my goal of becoming a part of the healthcare system throughout the time of service. Helping patients is my first priority as a Health Scholar. However, if I, and other health professionals, have available time I’m also looking forward to participating in various fields of medicine as a Health Scholar. As a prospective healthcare worker, I will utilize my time in the hospital to learn proper ways of assisting patients, both for their physical and emotional needs. Before having direct contact with patients, the 30-hour training before the start of the program is essential for us to become better caretakers.
I interned a cardiologist where I got to see the life of a physician as he went about his daily routine. I achieved getting my Certified Nursing Assistant license after assisting patients at a nursing home. I became a camp counselor for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, where I took care of a 10-year-old child during a summer camp. Through these experiences, I gained confidence in my character and purposefulness. Furthermore, I went on a mission trip to Kenya where I experienced life in a third world country. It was here where my eyes were opened to see a world that is in dire need of help. These people are malnourished, living in detrimental conditions without accessible health care. The experiences I had in Kenya reminded me to never take anything for granted. My engagement acting on all these opportunities fueled my perseverance to pursue my career in health

The doctor patient relationship is an important connection. Doctor-patient confidentiality is based on the idea that a person should not care for medical treatment because they fear the state will share with others.
