Hahahaha! You think you can survive in the quad?! Well, you’re going to have a very hard time! But, since I am kind I will let you in on some little tips, so consider yourself lucky. Although, you aren't going to consider yourself lucky when you get to year 8. For there are going to be way more problems and a lot more work. Sadly, these tips are going to be painful and heartbreaking for your hopes of doing well. If you forget them, good luck for next year! Although, you will never come out unscathed, some of us have died and most of us have shellshock. The first tip that I am going to share with you is this: read through every instruction thoroughly, because if you don’t you go to lunch club. At the moment you’re probably wondering: “What is lunch club?”. Well… it’s basically the last thing you want to be in. Although it might sound fun and enjoyable… IT’S NOT! It is basically a detention, just in you class or quad. With homework remember to read through each task very carefully otherwise you will join all the other lost souls in lunch club. …show more content…
It’s kind of funny how the teachers feedback can be mixed. It can either be really good or really bad. It is also really nerve racking. I remember after my first time going up I was completely broken. I was shocked at the beginning of the year. You want to know why? I had to restart an entirely new piece of writing because it “wasn’t good enough”. So always be ready. You will have one different teacher that we had though, because Mrs Bentley will only be here for term 1 of your time. She might not even be here in the first place. I have heard that you people might have a male teacher in your quad instead of another female teacher. I guess you’ll be
In fact, I began this semester with plans to accomplish skills that would eventually bring me to an understanding of what a great writer is. During the summer I attended an English mini course which proved to be just a quick version of some high school rules on writing, that did not require much thinking or writing tasks, but it did provide an understanding of what was going to be expected in colle...
One thing that I learned from this course is to follow directions. In the first assignment, we were told to write a personal story of what shaped you as a whole. At first, I had a difficult time thinking of a topic to write about, but after viewing other students’ essays, I finally understand what the professor was asking for, and I came up with an idea of writing how I got my cats and wanted to become a veterinarian. Writing this type of essay was difficult because I am not good at expressing myself. Therefore, I always did a bad job in describing my feelings, my thoughts, and etc. Since English is my second language, I know I have a lot of mistakes with my writing. Thus, I went to the Writing Center to ask for professional help. The tutors are very nice and willing to give you academic advices. After going to the writing center, the essay turned out to be my favorite essay that I have even written. However, the assignment was not asking to tell the story, the main theme is to write what shaped you as a whole. As a result, I got a poor grade and realized that this college level course was not the same as a high school writing course. In high school, I was only satisfied in completing the essay and receiving an A. What really ...
Every student in all grades were able to leave during the time a scheduled class did not occupy. (Saslow, Linda. “Schools split on “open campus” NYtimes.com). Open campus lunch is the allowance of high school students to leave off the premises to a local restaurant for the duration of lunch. School districts in America have opposed open campus lunch benefits due to common knowledge and concern for potential student endangerment. A reason why schools should change educational environment would be to accommodate what students’ need to create comfortable working conditions. Old school methods included the repetitive process of helping students through daily material every day of the week with one break. Off campus school lunch was an unknown factor to high schools back
This will give us the extra push that's needed so the lunch expansion won't be a problem. You’ll still be getting your education and also being provided with more than enough time to devour your delicious lunch meals. Teachers may think this is a great idea. However, students will not want to read a book or do any assignments in this period of time. The hour of lunch should be about eating and eating only. Reading a book will not harm you what so ever. It will only make you better.
Lunch time is a time to take a break from the day and recharge for the rest of the day. In elementary schools it is also a time to meet up with your friends and socialize. Lunch time is not only time to eat. It is important for the mental, social, and emotional health of the children as well. Children need them chance to unwind and destress, which is promoted by socializing with friends. “Lunch should be an enjoyable part of the school day for students, offering a break from classroom work and a place to relax, socialize, and become nourished.”("The Cafeteria: Creating a Positive Mealtime Experience", 2013) Lunch time should be done in a setting where

In the course of this semester of writing, I grew more than I ever had in my ability to write well. I remember on the first day of class several other students were talking about how hard this writing professor is. I was a bit worried and even thought about switching to an easy professor for a guarantee A so I can get a 4.0. Now, I am grateful that I chose to decide to work hard for a 4.0 instead. Even though I may not get it, I am still glad I stayed because for once, I learned and became a better writer. I can see that my knowledge of conventions definitely improved from last semester. I really loved the feedback for my assignments, since it allows me to realize what I need to improve on and what I should keep doing. Unlike the previous semester, the writing professor only told us our grade on the very first assignment after two months. There were no feedback on how I could improve either, so I had no idea if I was having trouble with anything. Prior to this course, I always had trouble writing sentences and organizing them in such a way that flows and delivers my idea well. I also rarely outline or plan out how I will write a paper too, and even when I did, it was very vague. Out of the five learning outcomes, I grew the most in rhetoric knowledge and writing process from the reading responses and 4 assignment.
"To be successful, you must accept all challenges that come your way. You can't just accept the ones you like" Mike Gafka. Gafka’s quote summarizes my Junior year as I had to grew accustom to many difficulties, face many challenges, and struggles such as time management as well as how I decided to take three Ap classes during my Junior year. Which were Ap US History, Physics, and English not to mention having a Math 140 zero period class and a Network+ computer course outside of school which made me have a busy schedule. Nevertheless I learned and gain a lot of new knowledge throughout my Junior year.

Students receive a weekly homework packet at the end of every Monday. This packet consists of a reading log that must be signed nightly and worksheets for writing, math, and science. Every subject is required to include a worksheet for every day of the week. Homework is checked daily during breakfast and morning meeting. Students are not briefed on the contents of the packet, but worksheets reflect the weekly learning objectives of each content
‘I am going to fail’ was the very first thought that crept into my mind on that very first day of class. Before I stepped into the classroom on the first day, I felt pretty good about my writing. I had done previously well in English, and didn’t think this class would be much of a challenge. This all changed on the first day of school, when my professor talked about the level of reading and writing expected for this class. I remember thinking ‘I don’t read, why couldn’t I have been born someone who likes to read? !’
Developing people skills, having exceptional time management skills, and positive thinking skills are effective ways of balancing work and school. A planner is an effective way to organize your time and allows you to tackle work and school. People skills are imperative to develop, considering that you will gain experience with people, thus, will lead to success in the future. Moreover, positive thinking skills will lessen stress while you are at these two places, and one last tool to remember, don 't worry about school while you 're at work and vice versa. The time that you 're at each place you focus on each task in its appropriate way. Let work and school remain separate; therefore, don 't bring work-related activities in school. Additionally, don 't bring school-related activities to work. If you are willing to separate these two places, hence you will be able to offer your best in
The writing view for me has changed this semester in the sense of the multiple drafts and doing it in bits and pieces and making it
Learning that having good time management skills has shown me that I can take my time and accomplish more. When relating this to school, I can honestly say that starting early is the best gift that I can give myself. As a full-time student with a family and a full-time job, my time is a limited resource (Britton & Tesser, 1991 pg.405). When I start early on an assignment, I don't have to rush and if I mess up, I can start over or seek help if necessary. My work schedule doesn’t always agree with my school schedule but for the most part, I try to have all of my school work completed by Thursday. As I'm approaching the last week in this class, I have began to look over the discussion posts first and then I look over the complete section to familiarize myself with the material before I even go to the read section (Chambers, 2015 pg.4). I found that to be especially helpful when I first began this class because the things that I already knew or felt like I knew, I went ahead and did it.
I have grown as a student in the area of academic skills. American Literature is a very difficult class, especially with Mrs. Mohr. This class is no joke, reading points matter, there is a lot of essays, and Mrs. Mohr expects a lot from you. I am a junior I have one more year of high school and then I will be headed to college. Honestly I am so scared because all my life I have grown and relied with Vaughn but in 1 year everything will be different,
