Stereotypes can actually bring down people's performances.

If you were stereotyped on your gender, race, etc before a big test, would you have done amazing or horrible on it after getting those hurtful comments? Whether people see it or not, stereotypes are able to drag down performance. Psychologists such as Claude Steele at Stanford University came up with the term stereotype threat. This is when people are threatened by a negative stereotype they think applies to them, subtly biased to live out that stereotype. Have you ever been stereotyped in a level where you lack performance in things?

They believe anyone can take a silly joke on their looks, race, and gender. Those features about a person is what makes them unsure about themselves, and putting more stereotypes on them builds more pressure! Humans need to open their eyes and see the dangers they cause to others with a few words. People get stereotypes that hurt their performances daily in tests, athletic games, etc. These stereotypes make it harder and harder for people who are trying succeed in things. Stereotypes are the reason for holding them back to use their full potential .

Stereotypes have the power to throw people off their feet in things. In the article “How a Self-Fulfilling Stereotype Can Drag Down performance” by Shanker Vedantam, there's a couple sentences that share my belief. One of these sentences say “Reminding woman about their gender or telling them that men generally outperform women on math tests invariably depresses the women's scores”. Another sentence as well says “...telling test-takers that people of Asian descent score better than other students depresses the performance of white men” .
