Divergent The movie Divergent is an action filled adventure/sci-fi film. It takes place in Chicago, IL in a futuristic time period after a war, where the only people left are the ones inside the fence. Prominent stars in this film are, Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, and Kate Winslet. The film starts with Beatrice Prior, played by Shailene Woodley, introducing the five factions and what each faction stands for, Abnegation believe in selflessness, Erudite value intelligence, Amity are kind, Candor believe in 100% honesty, and Dauntless are the brave. She then goes to take her aptitude test. The aptitude test will tell each person which faction they belong in so that they can choose the next day at the choosing ceremony. After …show more content…
she takes her test Beatrice learns that she is divergent and the test can’t give her one faction that she should be in. At the choosing ceremony the next day she has to make her own decision and she chooses the Dauntless faction. As they start training in the Dauntless compound as initiates, Tris, (Beatrice's new name that she chose), realizes that surviving as a dauntless while being divergent will be extremely difficult because the Erudite have started hunting divergents believing that they are a threat to their society. Tris and Four, Tris’ boyfriend realize what's going on and have to fight to stay alive. The costume design in this movie is very specific.
Each Faction has a specific color that they wear to distinguish who is in each faction. The actors portraying Amity members wear reds, yellows, and sometimes orange. Colors that reflect their kind personalities. Actors casted as Abnegation are dressed in grey. A color that brings no attention to themselves so that they can be as selfless as possible. Dauntless are dressed in a strong black, a color that shows their bravery and ability to protect. the actors and actresses playing Erudite members wear the color blue, it is supposed to reflect their value of intelligence. If there were two colors that could be used to define the word honesty, they would black and white, which is exactly what the members of Canor wear. The set design is very futuristic. While the movie is set in chicago. The set designers worked to transform the streets in chicago to look as futuristic/post war as possible. They used the elevated train as a form of transportation for the Dauntless. They use the back, trashy alleys in Chicago as where the factionless reside. I thought that overall the movie was very well put together. Since I’ve read the book also, in my opinion, they followed the plot of the movie quite well. The actors and actresses casted throughout the movie played their parts very nicely. Divergent is one of my favorite movie and it has been for a long time. I would highly recommend watching this movie to anyone looking for a nice action packed film. I give the movie five stars hands
down.
Imagine having your personality given to you the minute that you are born. Factions; a way to separate people into groups by an outcome of a test. In this Utopia, your faith and future is already determined. Where perfection is ideal. Divergent by Veronica Roth is an exciting science fiction and thriller with a quickly moving plot that builds an exciting tone, and a point of view that is told through Tris in a unique way since she is like no one else in the story.
Incohesive, long, and dialogue-heavy, Inherent Vice has all the potential to flounder. Yet under the steady (or rather, wild) hands of director Paul Thomas Anderson, the film becomes a psychedelic, incredibly enjoyable ride brimming with wit and melancholy. The film follows Larry ‘Doc’ Sportello (played in routinely magnificent fashion by the now ever-reliable Joaquin Phoenix), and his exploits to help his ex-girlfriend, Shasta Fey (Katherine Waterston, also exquisite) investigate a kidnapping of notorious real-estate billionaire Mickey Wolfmann. From there, the plot descends (or ascends, depending on your perspective of the film) into sumptuous lunacy; a mystery involving the coveted and secretive
The movie I chose to write about is called “The Maze Runner” It is about a group of children that get dropped off inside a maze. When they wake up they have no memory of who took them there, or why they are there; They call this place “The Glades.” A new person randomly appears each month to try and pass a test which they are unaware of at the time.
The book and the movie were both very good. The book took time to explain things like setting, people’s emotions, people’s traits, and important background information. There was no time for these explanations the movie. The book, however, had parts in the beginning where some readers could become flustered.
“The Help” is a white mock feel good movie, which seems to feature amnesia of racial conflicts in the South as its primary theme (Stockett, 2009). Author Natasha McLaughlin suggests that ‘The Help’ focuses upon the home and the relationship between African-American domestics and the laws of Jim Crow’s neglected ‘other half’: Jane Crow (McLaughlin, 2014). The American Civil Rights Movement mainly accommodates the public with a view concentrated upon a male dominant perspective but appreciations to Stockett and her moving interpretation of the relationship of Caucasian housewives and their African-American maids the public gets a rare white-washed version of events dealing with the civil rights movement going on within the interior of the households
The movie Doubt is set in a private Catholic School in 1960s. Sister Aloysius is the principal of the school, and Father Flynn is the clergyman in the church. While the movie deals with some moral dilemmas such as doubt versus certainty, rigidity versus openness and so on, the central theme of the story pivots on accusation on Father Flynn of child molestation. The story has a hanging ending where Father Flynn is proven neither guilty nor proven innocent. Based on the contents of the movie and my own analysis, I believe that certainty plays a bigger role in accusations and I believe that Father Flynn had been falsely blamed and I am also against the rigidity of the society.
“Good Night, and Good Luck” is a 2005 American drama film about how United States (US) was plagued by the threat of communism, creating a tense atmosphere within US in the early 1950s. Fear of communism was inevitable and Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin exploited those fears. CBS reporter Edward R. Murrow and his producer Fred W. Friendly challenged McCarthy and aimed to expose him of his agendas. Although their actions brought about many consequences, the two men persevered in their stance and eventually brought down McCarthy successfully.
Film Analysis - The Notebook Introduction The film is portrayed in the past and present scenario setting. It is based on a young couple’s love and passion for one another, but are unexpectedly separated due to the disapproval of the teen girl parents and the social differences in their life. At the start of the movie, it displays a nursing home style setting with an elderly man named Duke (James Garner), reading to an elderly woman named Mrs. Hamilton (Gena Rowlands), whose memory is inevitably deteriorating. The story he reads to her is a love story about two teenagers named Allie (Rachel McAdams) and Noah (Ryan Gosling), that met in the 1940’s at a carnival in Seabrook Island, South Carolina.
‘Our interest in the parallels between the adaptation inter-texts is further enhanced by consideration of their marked differences in textual form,’
The Fault in Our Movie Adaptation In 2014, John Green’s famous novel The Fault in Our Stars was brought to life with a film adaptation. The novel tells the story of two star-crossed lovers, Augustus Waters (portrayed by Ansel Elgort) and Hazel Grace Lancaster (portrayed by Shailene Woodley). The novel is written from Hazel’s point of view. However, there is something different about this love story than others. Hazel and Augustus are both cancer patients.
Divergent is set in a futuristic Chicago were everyone is separated into 5 sections of Chicago. Throughout the story the characters take trips to the Ferris Wheel of Navy Prier, the Hancock building, the Willis (formally Sears) Tower, and Millennium Park.
Love is a word that’s been both miss-used and over-used all at once. Romantic movies change our definition of and have a big impact on this definition greatly. The book starts out with Tris, Tobias and some of her friends on a train leaving the city after they had just stopped the Erudites attack simulation. This happened directly after the events of the first book Divergent in a futuristic Chicago. They were not sure what they would do so they decided to go to Amity, a faction that is outside of the city gates. After they got on the train they found some factionless on the train who took them to their safe house. When they got their they met Tobias’s Mother and learned that the factionless were quite powerful now and that they had a large amount of Divergent living there.
The movie, Fifty Shades of Grey, portrayals its dominant ideology sexuality through the story between two main characters: a female literature student named Anastasia Steele, and a young male billionaire Christian Grey. In this movie, it indicates strong traditional heterosexuality, and it reflects the gender roles about submission and dominance, which leads to gender inequality through misinformation. Although entertaining and refreshing, this movie brings more negative impacts more than positive ones.
