The moment a runner step onto the oval, beat up track field their freshmen year, their ultimate goal is to compete at the State Championship. If a runner is a senior, ending the career with fellow teammates and hearing the cheers of thousands of people will make their memories last a lifetime. For those who are fortunate enough to run in multiple events, hearing the team and the crowd urge you in every step can give you a great boost of confidence and energy like no other. At West, there is at least one event that goes to State every year. Some of the runners strive themselves to break the school record by training, sweating, and running painstaking obstacles during and after practices. They may or may not win at State, but the feeling of participating …show more content…
is one of the greatest achievements anybody could ask for. The success of the track members during the season and at State depend upon their perseverance, skills, and determination. Overall, distance runners have the most perseverance.
Every single one of these athletes could run for a ridiculously long amount of time and would not need to stop for any kinds of break. All of the distance runners have great dedication because they spend their time in the scorching summer to run cross country and the offseason training. Distance runners are always the last one to go home from practice. Some of the athletes I would like to mention are Keenen Dolan, he could literally run forever. Unfortunately, Keenen has an injury causing him not to participate this season. Andrew Wright is by far the best distance runner I have had the honor of running with. Andrew would warm up throughout the whole meet so he could be ready at any moment’s notice. He warms up seriously because he runs more than one distance event at every meet. Andrew is one of the athletes I respect and admire because he never give up, and by giving it his all, he made it to …show more content…
State. The athletes who have the most skills are no doubt the hurdlers. The hurdler must have flexibility, powerful legs, and excellent form to jump over the hurdles. Flexibility is the most important attribute to have when running through hurdles otherwise, a result in injury could occur. Having powerful legs will let the athletes run through the hurdles quicker. It takes a span of time to master the form to hurdle over the hurdles. Brady Sims and Tyler Williams are excellent hurdlers, and they still to this day have a potential for greatness . A young man named John Guizar became one of the leaders of this team. John was resolve to break the hurdle record for Davenport West High School last year, but fell shortly. He also qualified for State and Drake relay during his senior year. John finished strong and was a great role model for the younger athletes. The Sprinters demonstrate great determination during the season.
For short distance events, it all comes down to who is the quickest and most explosive on their feet. Every time the sprinters viciously run like lightning, they are expected to be in the mindset of beating their previous personal records. Xavior Calvin had an enormous future for the team until he had to transfer schools for personal reasons. Dot Combs is by far the hardest working sprinter. He is the fastest sprinter on the track team. Dot worked really hard every day before, during, and after practices. The results of all his commitment lead him to go to State. Some of the reason why he’s so explosive is because he does more than one sport during the school year. Also, to forge a champion, Dot would be doing strength and conditioning exercises at the gym almost every
day. Track members showcase their talents in many different kinds of aspect, not just on the track, but also outside of it. Every track member should believe that they will make it to State and it should be their key for motivation. All Track runners wishes to be a better athlete when the season climaxes. In all, Dot Combs would have to be the best athlete and greatest role model for his team. The success of the track members had made them a better athlete by show casing their perseverance, skills, and determination.
Some race fans would love to have an opportunity to be a part of a race team. If you receive a great opportunity to do a job you have been dreaming about, then you should take the opportunity. If you don’t take the opportunity that you received, then you don’t know if you will ever see that same opportunity. 22 year old Cody Higginbotham has been receiving many great opportunities since he was 12 years old.
In the book Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, young Louie Zamperini is the troublemaker of Torrance, California. After his life had taken a mischievous turn, his older brother, Pete, managed to convert his love of running away, into a passion for running on the track. At first, Louie’s old habit of smoking gets the best of him, and it is very hard for him to compare to the other track athletes. After a few months of training, coached by Pete, Louie begins to break high school records, and became the fastest high school miler in 1934. After much more hard work, goes to the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 but is no match for the Finnish runners. He trains hard for the next Olympic Games, and hopes to beat the four minute
They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares" (603). This quotation shows that running is not always competition, but it helps runners overcome their

Black women have a long history with such sports and track and field. Tuskegee Institute (later Tuskegee State University) led the nation as powerhouses for the production of Olympic competitors from the fifties to the seventies. Despite the relative lack of funding received by these schools as compared to white schools in Jim Crow Alabama, their track and field programs flourished. Perhaps this is because track and field did not require expensive equipment to train and play. While white schools...

Attention Getter: Mia Hamm. Peyton Manning. Steve Nash. Here are just a few great athletes that most of us have heard of. But what is it that makes us look up to them? What is it that makes them great? The truth is that sports are only a small part of what makes a person worthy of looking up to.
Athletics are not about winning and losing, it is about getting the most out of
For the past several years runners all over the world have been trying to figure out and arguing over the simple question: “Is high mileage training better than low mileage, during training season?” Kenyan’s in Africa have been running unbelievable amounts of mileage for years, and tend to always be in the top field in any race over five thousand meters. While Africans have been leading the fields for years, where do the best US runners end up? Not in the lead pack! Perhaps they are training too hard to be like their Kenyan counterparts. I think a lot of runners believe that if they train like the runners from Kenya that they will have the same results. When in truth they end up running themselves into the ground. Perhaps that is why there are others that think that if they train light and more to their athletic ability level that they will have better results.
Have you ever had those moments where you are feeling unmotivated or zero energy to workout? I will be the first to tell you I have had these moments. Being involved in the fitness world, I love every aspect of fitness. For the past 5 years, I was working out 5 days a week and had my ups and downs with results. I am guilty of it, I would pick up a workout magazine and try out this crazy workout and just destroy my body. Sure, I saw some results but I was becoming more and more tired throughout the day. On top of that, I was only getting 5 hours of sleep and not eating appropriately to refuel my body. I know stupid right? I am human and I am not perfect!
through out your busy day. There is still no excuse why you can 't have 10
Being a part of West Delaware athletics has taught me numerous things. I have learned many life skills and characteristics of a young adult and have made many great friendships along the way. I have learned that persevering and never giving up is a characteristic of a good leader and person in general. Persevering is a good trait to have, especially in sports. In a game, you could persevere by winning a game when you lost your best players and had to step up or by beating a team that was undefeated and #1 in the state. Persevering is not a hard trait to learn and requires a person that works hard to achieve this skill. West Delaware Athletics has taught me to never give up until the final horn sounds because you always have a chance until
In my narrative paper, I wrote in detail about my last track season of my high school career. In this essay I discussed the process of practicing and working towards achieving my goals at the end of the season. I talked about my relationship with my coach and how important it was to me, as well as my determination and perseverance during the track season. I also discussed how I finally achieved my goal of breaking twelve minutes in the 3200 meter run and how much it meant to me as a runner. Writing this essay about my personal experience with running sparked my interest in learning all of the health benefits that come with running on a regular basis. In conducting my research, I found that running is not only a great way to maintain a healthy weight, but it is also great for your heart, mind and mood, bones and joints, and other body systems.
Before our current era, an almighty civilization practiced the art of throwing, running, and jumping in a coliseum for thousands of people to watch in awe. This great sport came to be known as Track and Field, and many individuals participate in this sport today. I participated in Track for four years; out of those four years, I have run the 100-yard dash, the 4x100 relay, 4x200 relay, 200-yard dash and the 100-meter hurdles. As you can see, I have lots of experience with Track and field. With that said, I am going to analyze the sport Track and field, and then further explain the components of the social structure and culture.
If you do not know state track feels like you are being put in the spotlight, like everyone is watching you. Of course, this was the most memorable moment of my track season. My teammates and I had made it out to Des Moines, IA to run on the blue oval with many different athletes, some who ran sprints, some who ran long distance and some who just did field events. It was a packed stadium with many talented track runners from all over the state that would go on to run in college and maybe even farther than that someday. Preparing to run, we warmed up for our race by setting up five hurdles on the green turn in the middle of the track and going over them, then we would sit, talk and stretch looking at other teams around us. While warming up we had become more and more nervous. We knew what we had to do and we knew we had to believe in each other just like we had done all season. You could tell when one of your teammates believed in you
