America was built with immigrants from the very beginning. That is why America is often call the “melting pot”. We have immigrants from all over the world whether it’s from Latin America or the Middle East. Though, if you were not born in this country, you are an immigrant and with that you will often face racism or discrimination. Even if you were born here but are a different race or ethnicity from the regular American Caucasian you will most likely have to deal with discrimination at some point in your life. This paper will go on to tell a little about the kind of challenges immigrants and their children come in contact with in their lives.
Throughout history, immigrants have been faced with many challenges whether it’s the Puritans coming to the New World in 1620 or the Irish in the 1820s. Even till this day immigrants have to overcome many obstacles. They have very often been blamed for the problems that America has. Immigrants are often accused of “stealing jobs” from the white middle class which is not true. According …show more content…

According to NewAmerica.org “individual teachers also discriminate by holding lower academic expectations for children of immigrants and focusing on what Adair calls “narrow learning experiences”.” (Carnock) This behavior regularly goes unnoticed by teachers. They think by doing this they are helping these children, but in reality they are causing more damage than good. “This results in a multitude of negative psychological, academic and social outcomes.” (Carnock) This means that at a young age these children are already developing in a negative way because of the way they are being treated. When teachers set lower standards for them it makes them think that are not good enough, whether it’s academically or just as a person which is something many people would not understand until they experience it
