Ever since the beginning of time, there has been life and death. In life one makes many connections, many memories, and many mistakes. Then in death, one leaves it all behind, only being remembered by those one has encountered. However, the death on ones loved one is never easy. When they die, something it is as if they took a part of their loved one with them. Which in turn leaves a void of desperation for closure, and in fact, one of the best ways to find closure is by discussing it among others. The film, “Common Threads; Stories from the Quilt,” illustrates these stories which are told by the grieving, and allows the audience to understand the damage caused from the AIDS epidemic. The quote to me summed up the pain and the vulnerability people felt as their loved ones passed away from AIDS. It also shows how people would try everything in their power just to keep their loved ones alive, even if, it were to pull a handle to keep them from dying. When I heard this, it reminded me about the time I say my uncle die on his deathbed. I remember how strange it felt watching it happen. It felt like I imagined it because he looked exactly the same way he used to look when he was sleeping. At that moment in time I just wanted to do something, anything to just wake him back up, but I knew I could not. It felt so horrible having the desire to help him, but knowing it was too late. In conclusion, the film “Common Threads: Stories of the Quilt” allowed me to understand the heartache the AIDS epidemic bestowed upon its victims. It did this best by giving the audience the opportunity to share their times of joy and their tribulations through the narratives they
