I greatly enjoyed this movie as it opened my eyes to many different issues. I thought it was very interesting how the movie showed perspectives from many different sides. The movie showed the physicians and the high-ranking officials at the board meeting of the CDC, gay rights activists, scientists, as well as the reaction from the gay population. It was interesting to see certain things being blocked from moving forward, often due to money issues. An example of this is when Don pleads with the CDC officials about funding as well as trying to prove that the virus can be transmitted through blood. I also liked the part the media played. In this movie, the characters of the CDC debated on what to tell the public, in fear of media backlash or the public’s reaction. I thought the movie did a great job in displaying all aspects of this sensitive issue. I also enjoyed how the movie was not afraid to display Dr. Gallo in an unfavorable light. They did not shy away from it which I thought was well done. …show more content…

Longyhore mentioned in class about counseling for people who have just found out they have HIV. He talked about how people struggle mentally as well as if and how to tell their family and friends. The movie did a good job showing this struggle, particularly Bill Kraus’ character. Showing the despair of some of the people finding out they have HIV made me quite sad. The movie did a great job making me empathize with the characters, particularly the woman finding out she received HIV through the blood transfusion after her surgery. I’m glad I watched this movie as it has made me more aware of the political as well as personal struggles of finding out and fighting the HIV
