E-cigarettes are electronic cigarettes that contain nicotine but not tobacco. They work like a water heating system, the atomizer heats the cartridge that contains nicotine creating a vapor that is inhaled and exhaled by the user. According to the Center for Diseases Control, an estimated 40 million adults American are daily smokers. E-cigarettes were created to help them quit smoking and give them a healthier alternative, so they can continue smoking without the harmful side effects of cigarettes. However, like any technological devices, E-cigarettes have its fair share of advantages and disadvantages, making them a progress trap in today’s world.
E-cigarettes can be beneficial for smokers and people trying to quit smoking in many ways. For instance, there are no toxins such as carbon monoxide and tar in E-cigarettes, which help reduce the rate of lung cancer and heart attack caused by cigarettes. Also, better health such as better looking skin, teeth, better breathing is reported from people switching to E-cigarettes. Moreover, E-cigarettes limit the exposure to secondhand smoking, which is the leading cause of respiratory illnesses and asthma in children. In addition, E-cigarettes eliminate over

Also, The tobacco industry has marketed the E-cigarettes to youth, glamorizing its use, adding nineteen percent of adolescents to the smoking population. ...an be seen that they are a useful cessation technique- as stated previously 55% of people use e-cigarettes to quit. More research is needed into e-cigarettes to see if they are viable way to effectively stop smoking. There is a gap in research of long term effects of e-cigarettes due to e-cigarettes only being developed in 2004 4. Due to e-cigarettes only gaining popularity recently, few reliable studies with enough participants were able to be meta-analysed. It is also hard to give a reliable conclusion for this topic as there are different brands of e-cigarettes each containing varying concentrations of nicotine which wont change until they are regulated as medicinal products. At the moment the studies suggest that e-cigarettes are no better than other NRT’s. E-cigarettes could be a viable, useful and cost effective way to help reduce smoking- if they are regulated
Electronic Cigarette’s are a healthier alternative to traditional cigarettes. Compared to smoking tobacco, a vapor is a much better alternative. Cigarettes have thousands of chemicals in just one cigarette. E-cigs just have four ingredients, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerine, artificial flavors, and nicotine.
For those who smoke cigarettes and will continue to do so, making a switch to smoking e-cigarettes would be a safer alternative. Goniewicz is a cancer researcher in the Department of Health Behavior at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York (Reuters, 2014). He and his colleagues conducted two studies of secondhand smoke exposure to e-cigarette vapors in a laboratory and the results were published in Nicotine and Tobacco Research (Reuters, 2014). In the first study they had an electronic machine that generated the vapors in an enclosed space and then they proceeded to measure the amount of nicotine and other potentially harmful gasses and particle that were in the air along with carbon monoxide that was generated. In the second study they used five men who smoked cigarettes on a regular basis and also smoked e-cigarettes. Each man entered a room and smoked his usual...
Sandi is a former smoker, experienced that the vapor from the e-cigarettes satisfies the urge to inhale the “smoke” without the unpleasant taste that accompanies the traditional cigarette smoke. She also addressed the issue of difficulty of quitting after prolonged use of e-cigarettes. As an oral healthcare professional, Sandi thinks that e-cigarette smokers have less damaging effect on the oral tissue as opposed to traditional cigarettes. However, as a professional, Sandi does not recomends to her patients to use e-cigarettes nor any nicotine replacements as a solution to quitting smoking. She believes quitting “cold turkey” is the most effective solution. She often runs into resistance from patients when talking to the harmful effect of smoking. She emphasizes how nicotine effects blood vessels in the mouth and the whole body and causing constriction of blood vessels depriving cells from Oxygen. But really she feels that she cannot force her patients to quit only providing information to encourage to adopt healthy life stile. A closing, Sandi takes about her concerns that e-cigarettes have not been on the market long enough to determine if they are safe alternatives to other tobacco
From my late teens, into my mid-twenties, I was a smoker. At first, it was just recreational; however that changed fairly quickly. I began buying them and smoking regularly throughout the day. It then progressed to smoking a pack per day until it was too late. I was officially addicted. I knew it was a terrible habit and I was shamed of it and would hide it from friends and family hoping they wouldn’t find out. Finally, after coughing hacking, and repeatedly getting sick several times a year, I came to the realization that I had to quit. However, it wasn’t as easy as I had anticipated. After relapsing several times before I was finally able to quit, I broke this terrible habit successfully. It was an extremely difficult habit to break and I’ll never go back. I was a lucky individual who had the mental toughness and willpower to overcome this strong addiction, but Americans struggle to quit each year, and many never do. However, there’s a new product on the market today called electronic cigarettes that are believed to aid individuals in the fight against addiction. It’s a battery powered device that heats a nicotine diluted solution into a vapor that is then inhaled. It’s believed to be a healthier, more affordable alternative to tobacco cigarettes. It is much safer because it doesn’t have nearly as many harmful chemicals as tobacco cigarettes and it’s believed to be much more affordable for consumers. However, many critics believe that electronic cigarettes are extremely addictive and just as harmful. Although electronic cigarettes are believed to be detrimental to people’s heath due to low quality product standards, harmful components in filling solution, and reports suggesting they’re addictive and just as harmful as toba...
There is a new trend hitting the market known as e-cigarettes, or “vaping.” Many people believe that e-cigarettes are better than traditional cigarettes, but research shows just how unhealthy and harmful e-cigarettes are for everyone. The FDA has not yet decided if e-cigarettes should be regulated like tobacco products. E-cigarettes are marketed to help people quit smoking and live a healthier nonsmoking life. E-cigarettes are meant to help break the habit of smoking, but why are there so many “toxic chemicals” (Gilger) in the vapor? Is this new invention to help people quit smoking or just another way for tobacco companies to get richer?
There is quite a bit of controversy regarding the use of E-cigarettes. A known fact according to the CDC and data from the 2011 and 2012 National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS) is that, “the percentage of U.S. middle and high school students who use e-cigarettes more than doubled from 2011 to 2012” (Bayless, 2014; Corey et al., 2013). The advertising and targeting of children by e-cigarette companies is evidenced by the large amount of advertising featuring celebrities like Jenny McCarthy, attractive packaging including devices that look like flash drives, and candy flavorings that appeal to children such as chocolate, mint, bubble gum, cherry, and watermelon, to name just a few (Bayless, 2014; Dotinga, 2014; Madigan, 2013; Hahn, Riker, & Brown, 2014; Johnson, 2014; Weskerna, 2010). Another concern is the rise in calls to Poison Centers for nicotine poisoning. In a study by Chatham-Stephens, Law, Taylor, Melstrom, Bunnell, Wang, Apelberg, & Shier (2014) between September 2010 and February 2014, e-cigarette exposure calls increased from one in September 2010 to 215 in February of 2014. Exposure were by inhalation, eyes, and skin with adverse effects that included vomiting, nausea, eye irritation, and a suicidal death caused by intravenous injection of the nicotine liquid used to refill e-cigarettes (Chatham-Stephens et al., 2014). E-cigarettes are not regulated or approved by the FDA, so there is no control over ingriedients or their concentration. The concern as stated by Fielding, a member of the American Public Health Association, “I’m particularly concerned that this could be a gateway drug” (Big US cities, 2014). E-cigarettes are sold in numerous businesses right here...
Smoking tobacco in the cigarette form was extremely popular in the early part of the 20th century. Many people joined in the popular habit, got addicted, and had no fear of the future consequences or health concerns. Many people were under the impression that smoking was good for their bodies, and were unaware of the unhealthy side affects that cigarette smoking caused. Some famous people like Walt Disney, Ty Cobb, and Babe Ruth all were killed from their love of tobacco. Soon enough more and more cases of lung, throat, and mouth cancers began popping up all over the place, but people were reluctant to blame their beloved tobacco. It wasn’t until 1964 when Surgeon General Luther Terry stated that smoking causes lung cancer in people who smoke and inhale the fumes, that perceptions on smoking began to change. Since the findings of the Surgeon General, there has been an on going battle between pro-smoking, and anti-smoking groups over the rights of smokers. As the non smoking movement is growing at a rapid pace, and smoking bans have been ruled to not violate the 1st Amendment. In the last decade we have banned smoking in almost all public areas from bars and restaurants, offices, malls, and living quarters. The smoking bans are one effective way to abolish smoking, but it fails to address the major component in smoking; addiction to nicotine, and the psychological effect it has on users. Unfortunately, there isn’t an easy way to end smoking. This is because treatment plans have such a small level of success. Medical treatment such as prescription medication often have more side effects than positive effects for the user. But one product has been making huge gains in the fight to quit tobacco, and that is the electronic cigarette...
Living in a world where many prefer to believe what is shown to them, rather than doing some of their own research, can lead to consequences. (Figure 1) Some people believe electronic cigarettes are a safer and healthier alternative to the actual cigarette because of how they are advertised. “Because they [e-cigs] deliver nicotine without burning tobacco, e-cigarettes are purported to be safer and less toxic than conventional cigarettes. Despite these claims, there’s still no real data on the effects of e-cigarettes (positive or negative), yet marketing materials still bill them as a healthy choice” (Worthington emphasis mine). Drug advertisements normally show the beneficial side of
Over time, the need for a cigarette increases and the harder it becomes to quit smoking. Some users turn to smoking alternatives in order to quit. The first thing a smoker will reach for is something that looks and feels similar to a normal cigarette. Electronic cigarettes or “e-cigs” were made to resemble the taste and feeling that a tobacco cigarette gives. These combustible cigarettes use water vapor combined with nicotine to re-create the high levels of tobacco.... ...
Electronic cigarettes are battery-powered smoking device often to look and feel like real cigarettes. It’s usually filled with a liquid that contains nicotine, flavoring, and other chemicals. With a heating device inside the fake cigarette, it converts the liquid into a vapor. E-cigarettes are now the most commonly used tobacco product among children, teens and young adults. People who vape are also more likely to use conventional cigarettes and other tobacco products such as hookahs and snuff.
Everyone knows that cigarettes are horrible for your health and increase your risks of cancer. Not too long ago there was a big advertisement for e-cigarettes also known as vaping. It was advertised to be a healthier alternative and comparable to a nicotine patch to help you quit smoking. Many people began to question this new form of smoking and if it was really a safer alternative. Even though vaping is a safer alternative than smoking, vaping is not harmless because you are still getting nicotine, inhaling poison and risking a weaker immune system.
One of the biggest problems with society today is children and young adults are turning to electronic cigarettes for a source to nicotine. It is understood that some people might think that electronic cigarettes are better for people but here is why they are not. Electronic cigarettes have the same consequences as normal cigarettes with very few differences, such as in electronic cigarettes there is no tobacco and there is no carbon monoxide. Some might not know what is really in electronic cigarettes. Many people don’t know that there are over seven thousand chemicals and cartridges in these devices. Smoking electronic cigarettes has the same effects as normal cigarettes; they as well have been known to cause cancer and other diseases. Here is why electronic cigarettes are just as bad for the human body as
Smoking and Vaping have similar health risks that overlap at some places. Some of the health risks of smoking, which are well known, are lung cancer, mouth cancer, throat cancer, bronchitis, and many others. These are caused by the thousands of chemicals in a single cigarette. Some of the well known ingredients are formaldehyde, nicotine, arsenic, tobacco, tar, and ammonia. As previously stated, formaldehyde and nicotine are two very addictive and cancer causing carcinogens, but another chemical, Arsenic, is used as rat poison and can cause cancer, neurological disorders, heart attacks, and other circulatory and cardiovascular diseases. Tobacco is another main ingredient in smoking which can cause mouth cancer and also contains nicotine. Tar is a very nasty substance which can cause multiple diseases and illnesses such as emphysema, bronchitis, lung
