Difficulty In Making An Important Decision
Assignment: Describe a particular time in your life when you had difficulty making an important decision.
During the course of our lifetimes we make many significant and difficult choices that affect us. These choices affect our personal and professional lives. Therefore, we make these choices with much thought and care. One of the most difficult and important decisions I have made was changing careers.
Changing careers at this stage of my life, mid-life, was very difficult.
Preparation for my new career required me to resign my job. The former position was providing a major portion of my family's income and most of the medical benefits. Some means of earning a living while preparing for a new career was foremost on my mind during this stage. If I spent to much time and energy pursuing a job to provide a means for supporting my family while retraining, I might not do a sufficient job of retraining for a new career. Another difficulty equally as important as the the financial one was the possibility of failing at a new endeavor or not being able to find a new job. These possibilities made me feel uncomfortable and insecure. If I failed or could not find a new position, what would my family think of me? Failing at a new career would also cause me to lose confidence in myself. These concerns, failure and financial, and not finding a new job made this decision very difficult. The decision to choose a new career was an extremely important one. The sole function of a career is not just to provide a means to make a living; it should have a larger purpose. Since the inception of civilization, people have dedicated themselves to certain practices to obtain needed supplies. With the advancement of society, these practices have specialized into roles that society needed and have become jobs and careers. With these jobs and careers, people have struggled to find a difference between the two, if there is one. However, the two are very different. There are a multitude of differences between a job and a career, but the most distinct differences being the necessary skill, and dedication needed.

Analyzing career theory is an important task, not only as an individual but also on a large scale. If everyone has the career they are best at and enjoy above all others, the world would be a much happier place. Imagine a world where each individual viewed work as not something they have to do, but as something they want to do. Productivity would increase at all levels. Charitable foundations and businesses would be abundant. Whereas this ideal may not be fathomable at this point, if each person used this information, it would be only a matter of time before we are moving in that harmonious direction.

“What You Don’t Know About Making Decisions” by David A. Garvin and Michael A. Roberto explores the ways successful leaders can design an effective decision-making process, and the areas one needs to avoid. Some areas that are mention are how leaders should focus on maintaining an Inquiry style decision process, and avoid an Advocacy style decision process. They explore how constructive conflict is desired if its cognitive conflict which allows people to openly express their differences which allows everyone to introduce new ideas. Affective conflict is to be desired, as it is emotional based and cause problems amongst teams. Garvin and Roberto talk about how leaders need to show they were listening to the discussion, and once a final choice is made, leaders need to show logic as to why the decision was made. Garvin and Roberto discuss closure within deliberations, and they talk about a Litmus Test. Throughout the paper Garvin and Roberto discuss many do’s and don’ts about decision making and ways leaders can be successful in running a team.
Career is not everything. Some people are always busy to have a good career to earn more money and to honor but the purpose of education includes more than just preparation for a career because it helps people to achieve knowledge, to learn basic things and think critically.
One common activity to all managers is making decisions, this process of choosing a course of action among different alternatives. Whom to hire? Where to expand? Should we grow? All decisions do not have the same weight but each of them has a unique set of factors which need to be evaluated. Then how to make the right decision? The word decision is defined by Webster's Dictionary as, "the act of deciding, or judgement." People have to make decisions in their lives all the time. One of the largest decisions is what to do after high school. This decision is certainly going to take you in one direction of another. And the places where your decisions would take you can differ greatly. Similarly, "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost uses symbolism to demonstrate that everyone is a traveler who chooses the road to follow on his or her journey in life. Each reader comes away with a slightly different meaning from the poem; their human condition will probably dictate the context in which they will interpret the poem. While the speaker chooses which path he ought to take in the woods in Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken," he also demonstrates that the decision, whether made whimsically or thought long and hard about, will change the speakers life in a way that can't be predicted.
With recent research and new technologies, scientists were able to learn more about the brain of mysterious teenagers. Opposite of original findings, scientists found that the brain is still developing in teenage years and well into their mid-20s. It is important to regard this statement when adolescents have done wrong. That is because according to studies, the teenage brain is underdeveloped and they act on impulse. Other things also affect the way teenagers act. Therefore, teenagers should not be held accountable for the actions they make.
On chapter 3, Hardy discuss about career, he dedicated it as justification of existence and activities, he also status it can be separated two different parts, first. Weather the word which he does worth doing, second, why he does choose that careers. He could not sufficiently answer first part of questions, and he only focused on second part of questions. He proposed his theory as following: “if they are honest, will usually take one or other two forms; and the second form is a merely a humbler variation of the first, which is the only answer we need consider seriously”. Which means that most people choose career path because “It is the one and only things they can do at all well: He brought out some fields of career example such as lawyer, stockbroker, and professional cricketer.

Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions a person has to make in their life. It is so important because that is what we will have to do to support ourselves throughout life. Imagine being stuck in a dead end job and having to go to work every morning and dreading it. That is no spending oneÕs time and life is too short to work 35 years and be unhappy with it. If a person likes the job they do then it is not work, because finding satisfaction out of a job can bring great happiness. That information has enabled me to make the decision of choosing my area of study and career in the field of Information Technology.
We make choices every hour, every minute, and every second of our lives; whether big or small our choices are slowly putting us in the direction we choose or end up. Many of us do not realize what contributes to the choices we make and why it affects others the same way if affects us and because of this many authors and writers have written stories and articles about coming to terms with making a choice and how to better ourselves when it comes to decision-making for the future.
Careers are necessary to provide food, clothing, and shelter for an individual of a family. However, a career should be more than just the pursuit of financial resources. Clinton and Clark state, “The purpose of work isn’t to become wealthy but to honor God and to be His representatives to those He loves.” Clinton and Clark state, “Our work is a trust from God, and one day we will be called to give an account to Him.”
