This paper tells about different methods as to which parasites enter the body. Each parasite is unique as to what problems they cause or diseases they carry. Some of these parasites can prove fatal unless treated, and if they are not treated carefully, they could still complicate an individual’s health. This paper also includes the places these parasites thrive and as to how to treat these parasites. Although most of these parasites are treatable, the treatment required is completely dependent upon what stage the parasites have progressed to. Some parasites are accompanied by a disease and are therefore not the primary health risk of getting infected. Nevertheless, if left untreated all of these parasites can host the body for large periods of time, which can lead to prolonged illness. Most of these parasites are found in third world countries, but under the right conditions can be found in the United States of America.
Parasites can be found within almost all living things. Parasite is defined as a creature that benefits from another entity while harming its host. They can cause a variety of symptoms and are notoriously hard to rid from the body. These creatures can also live within a variety of conditions. Although medical progress has helped the infections and diseases that parasites bring, parasites still are prevalent and prove to be a deadly force of nature.

Schistosomiasis is a parasite. This parasite is a worm that you get through contaminated water. Urine and feces usually contaminate the water. The worm goes in to your body and migrates to the bladder, rectum, liver, lungs, spleen, intestines and some veins. After the worm migrates to these places this is where it matures and lays its eggs. The disease has the ability to lay two thousand to three thousand eggs per day and can live for twenty years. There are five different kind of Schistosomiasis that effect humans, these different kinds are; S. mansoni, S. Heamatobium, S. japonicum, S. intercalatum and S. mekongi. There are also other kinds of Schistosomiasis that occasionally infect humans, there are; S. bovis, S. mathei, and some avian schistosomes.
Merriam-Webster defines ‘parasite’ as ‘an organism that lives in or on another organism and benefits by deriving nutrients at the host 's expense’.
The organism does not have any appendages to aid in motility (such as flagella, cilia, or pili) so it uses secretory organelles to facilitate a gliding type of movement. The apical, more pointed end of the cell, houses these secretory organelles. The conoid end is responsible for the entrance into a host’s cell membrane. T. gondii is an exclusively parasitic organism that can only grow inside of another cell, therefore relying on warm-blooded hosts. Felines, the preferred host of the microbe, are categorized as definitive hosts.
This disgusting worm parasite is spread by flies and mosquitoes. The adult worm spreads its larvae throughout the host’s lymphatic system and causes the lymph nodes to become clogged up. This also makes the tissue in the host’s body to swell up and create massive muscle deformations, otherwise known as elephantiasis. The elephantiasis mainly affects the legs and genitals. The disease also affects the eyes but that can be easily detected through close inspection but it commonly causes river blindness in the host. It’s been estimated that the parasite is one of the leading causes of blindness throughout the world.
There are two different types of worms or parasites that can affect animals, in relation to this report the focus will be on parasites that affect sheep. They are called endoparasites and ectoparasites. This report will predominately emphasise on the endoparasites, or the internal parasites. These endoparasites are divided into three categories; nematodes [or roundworms], cestodes, [or tapeworms] and trematodes [or flukes]. The parasites are broken into these groupings due to their structure.

Physicians in North Dakota and surrounding areas rarely if ever see and treat patients with parasitic diseases; however, it can happen and it is important to be informed about such diseases in order to better treat and inform patients.
