Identifying the Differences Between Alpacas and Llamas
This essay will highlight some of the main characteristics used in distinguishing between llamas and alpacas, such as physical attributes, difference in temperament, and the common things they are cultivated for. A very significant telltale way of differentiating between llamas and alpacas is their conformation, or how they physically appear. There is a drastic and obvious difference in size between these species and it is often the easiest way to differentiate between the two. The articles states, “The llama is roughly twice the size of the alpaca. Most alpacas weigh between 100 and 175 lbs when fully grown. Llamas on the other hand weigh in the neighborhood of 200 to 350 lbs. with some as heavy as 400 lbs” (Openherd). Not only do llamas weigh much more than the standard alpaca but they also have a remarkable difference in height. The ears on these beloved pets and producers are another extremely easy way to see the

Temperament varies in both species; however, the Rising Sun Exotics’ page states some of the most common distinctions. The information used points out, “...alpacas generally tend to be more skittish. I have found llamas to be mellower and generally easier to bond with…”(Openherd). We can tell from the gathered information that llamas are generally more companion animals where alpacas, in contrast, generally tend to avoid people more so. Many owners of each of these animals will tell you right away about the fun and unique personality of these amazing exotic pets. Said in the article as, “Alpacas are very much herd animals, while llamas are more independent minded...”(Modern Farmer). Some think there are no real differences , but there are notable characteristics that show how personable each of them are; variations definitely also depend on the individual

The Aztec’s and the Inca’s have many similarities such as religious beliefs, and views about gods. Inca’s views about training for war are different, and the Aztec’s artifacts are somewhat different to. The farm land compared to the Inca’s is differs also, because where the Aztec’s lived the land was elevated about ten thousand feet.

For the purpose of this paper I visited the Los Angeles Zoo, on October 23, 2015. Luckily I was able to visit all of the animals in the short amount of time I had. I primarily stayed at the Gorilla and Chimp exhibit to understand their behaviors and how they act like us.

When a baby llama is born, it is ready get going. Within 90 minutes the baby llama ready to stand, walk, and nurse. Before and when the baby llama gets to that point it is a good idea not to make the mother llama upset. The mother llama will spit, and kick to defend her baby. Why do they spit? What’s up with that? Llamas spit if they are provoked, protecting themselves or others (like baby llamas), and they spit at each other to show the other llama what the ranking is. The capybara is the largest rodent in the world. The capybara’s name comes from the native people of South America. It means "master of the grass." The scientific name of the capybara is hydrochoerus hydrochaeris, which means "water pig" in Greek. Capybaras have been in existence since the Pleistocene epoch. Their ancient ancestors were rodents that lived about sixty million years ago. The average size of a capybara is four feet in length and two feet in height. This is about the size of a sheep. Capybaras usually weigh between sixty and one hundred and forty pounds. Many people think the capybara looks like a larger version of a guinea pig. All capybaras have large flat noses, webbed feet, short legs, and no tail. Their fur is very coarse and it is usually a reddish-brown color. Capybaras also have large incisor teeth that continuously grow. Capybaras must constantly gnaw and chew on wood and nuts to wear their teeth down. To protect themselves from the hot sun, capybaras will often rest in nearby pools of water. They will also be found lying mud or in the shade.
Dogs and cats are the most popular pets in the whole world. Even though they’re both very popular, they are different in many ways. Some people gravitate towards the calmness of a cat, while others seek the companionship of a dog. Cats are a lot more independent and less expensive. Cats don’t require nor do they want to be trained to be a house pet. Dogs on the other hand are very loyal and will act as your best friend. Dogs require more attention and training to be a well behaved family member. The main differences between dogs and cats are their personalities, habits, and training, which all determine what pet to choose.
