The purpose of writing this paper is to discuss the pros and cons of my diet. The nutritional analysis have thought me that my choices are not terrible but they are not the beast. However, a healthy lifestyle is necessary if I want to enjoy this life without health complications. Always Including some form of vegetable, fruits, and carbohydrates in my diet is ideal. However, that may not be on a regular basis and the portion might be too small to make a difference or too much to cause harm. I have learned how many grams of fat, saturated fat and protein should be consumed per day by my body. A strength in my diet is that I incorporate an appropriate amount of protein in my meals. I do not have to worry about a lack of protein. This is a strength because according to Hoffman and Flavo, protein “Serve as the major structural component of muscle and other tissues in the body. They also produce hormones, enzymes and hemoglobin. Proteins can also be used as energy” (2004, para.3). Having protein in my diet helps with my growth and development. Another strength in my diet is that I always eat breakfast. O’Neil et al. (2014) showed “breakfast is the most important meal of the day… effect cognitive performance, feelings …show more content…
I need to tell myself that those things are just wants and that they will not benefit me in the future. Another thing is to not place myself in situations where I am tempted to eat those products, when I go to the store, I can avoid the processed food sections and sweets. A dietary change would be buying fruits that have natural sugars, using honey or molasses to bake my cookies of shortbread. Instead of eating frosted flakes, I can eat corn flakes or raisin bran cereal. If I do decide that I want to eat sweets I can make sure that the grams of sugar is less than five
My overall Kcal average for the three days I recorded was 4,318, while my Daily recommended intake was 3,484. In terms of Kcal, I am eating more calories per day than recommended. Breaking it down a bit farther to percent of carbohydrates, I ate 110 percent of my Daily Required Intake for Carbohydrates, specifically 39.1 g more than recommended. The daily recommendation for protein is ten to thirty-five percent,
The question comes up again; “How is your diet?” Jessica revisited her diet analysis from the first week of class. She noticed that some things have changed and some things, unfortunately, have not changed. She knew that some things would not change because of the hectic and busy semester and summer she had ahead of her but the things that did change surprised her. This class did some good for her, but she still needs some work on her diet and nutrition.
All in all, this book is a great read for those seeking to learn more about food and how it relates to all aspects of life and history as well as find that extra push in taking the initiative in improving one’s eating habits and lifestyle. The comparison of my two-day nutrition intake to recommendations demonstrates that I do not consistently consume a healthy diet. I do not follow the recommendations in the Food ...
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously imagined.
Although many Americans feel that dieting is the only way they can become healthy and that they should do it, it might not be all that safe. Even though many Americans are VERY overweight, dieting can lead to even more health issues than being fat, such as malnutrition and even if you were to lose weight in a short period of time you’d end up regaining it quickly (4ReasonsWhyDietsAreBadForYou). Often after dieting a person will take up binge eating, which will damage the body because it won’t be used to the food intake, as well as it causing more problems with smokers wanting to smoke more. However, dieting can’t be all bad, right? Dieting can reduce your risk of various heart diseases, build your patience and help with self-control for the future. Even though there are pros to dieting, the cons outweigh them, and not even dieting will change that. Health issues such as bloodshot eyes, acidosis, constipation, due to lack of food-intake and dehydration, due to the lack of fluid-intake (AdvantagesandDisadvantages). The effects of dieting are not only physical though. Dieting c...
Nutrition is a very controversial and confusing topic. One day coffee is bad for you, but the next day it is good. Alcohol is detrimental for our health one day, but the next day red wine is the elixir of life. There are dozens of diet plans and they promise a leaner and healthier body. There is the 3-Hour Diet that involves constantly eating small portions of anything we want to eat. The latest diet craze, the Paleo Diet, is based upon eating foods that our “hunter-gatherer ancestors” would have thrived on during the Paleolithic era. And there is the Blood Type Diet, the South Beach Diet, the Macrobiotic Diet, the Mediterranean Diet, and the list goes on. But who and what should we believe? Well, there is an optimal diet for humans and the answer might surprise many.
For years, I have been eating what I want. Food choices are a significant factor that affects our health. What we like or crave, often, is the determining variable in what we eat. Finding the right balance of food choices is the key factor in improving our health benefits. Choosing nutrient-dense foods will provide more nutritional value than foods that are found to be low in nutrient density. Making the right choices in foods, however, is extremely difficult. Often, I find myself enthralled in the latest fad, not considering the subtext of the foods I am eating, such as nutrients, vitamins, healthy fats and unhealthy fats, cholesterol and minerals. The diet project underlined a three-day food entry intake that provided a dietary analysis report
Eating is extremely important, it is also important to eat healthy. Most Americans eat without any concerns; they are not questioning or researching what they are feeding themselves or their family. A lot of that has to do with their financial stability, not having the time to prepare a meal due to their time-consuming work schedule, also lack of knowledge and education on what they are consuming. In this bibliography, I will go over all three articles and explain what they are about.
Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. I found this food log useful because it helped me learn what I can change in my intake of foods to make my diet healthy and to see what about my diet is affecting me from being healthy because I could affect me in the future.
For this paper I decided to take a second and evaluate my life and think about what were some of my current lifestyle habits and behaviors and which out of these habits would I like to change. After sitting down and evaluating all of my main habits I categorized them into groups of which ones were helping to lead me to a long healthy lifestyle and which ones were likely to lead me to an unhealthy life and lifestyle. After narrowing these unhealthy habits down to my top three I decided to focus this paper and my attention on my current nutrition and most of all on my negative eating habits. After evaluating my lifestyle and all of my unhealthy habits I felt that my current nutrition level and eating patterns were in need of the most improvement and change.
As in my last analysis I have changed my diet again during this period. During this period I greatly reduced my calorie intake to an average of 650 claories per day. These changes produced noticble results as I expected they would. I realized almost immedietly that this was not a sustainable diet, which is why I stuck with this experiment for only two weeks. I am using the knowledge from this class to see how my body reacts to various changes.
A lot of people are trying to build muscles in their body by working out. They work out by lifting heavy weights. However, when working out to building muscle, one needs to consume healthy foods and more proteins. After finishing a workout, the muscles in the body have microscopic tears to form in the fiber and connective tissues. This will cause the muscles to be tired and damaged. To repair the muscle, consume healthy foods and more protein. When one get enough foods in the body, the muscles will use the nutrients from the foods consumed and slowly rebuild, resulting in muscles in the body to increase size, strength, and muscle capacity. When I was in grade 9, I started to lift weight and I was new to it. After a few days of working out my body was experiencing any change. I realized that the reason my body was not experiencing change is because of what I was eating. I was not eating much protein and healthy foods. Later I started to eat foods that contain high protein and then I started to experience change, my muscles were getting bigger and stronger. Foods that contain high in protein can help to build muscles such as cottage cheese, chicken breast, whole eggs, canned tuna, etc. So therefore, having enough protein is the main key in order to build
I have strengths and weaknesses in the physical aspect of my health. My greatest strength in my physical health is that I try to eat as healthy as I can. I try to avoid food with high sugar and sodium. I choose to drink water over sugary drinks like soda or juice. One weakness in my physical health is that I do not exercise that often. I feel like I am swamped with school work and do not have the time to exercise during the school week; when I do have the time
Previously to taking this class, I had never given much thought to my eating habits. I always thought of the way I chose to eat as one of those things I didn’t need to concern myself with too heavily now because I’m a young broke college student. The way I eat is pretty similar to the way most of my friends eat and when you live away from home, that seems like the norm for people in college. However, after applying what I’ve learned in this class to my life, I’ve realized that the dietary choices I make now affect not only my current health, but my future health as well. So overall, I would say that my eating habits are pretty bad, but I’m working on making them better.
