What is meant by the term balanced diet?
The term balanced diet means eating the right proportions of foods from all five food groups, as well as drinking six to eight glasses of water a day (figure 1), which are necessary to help maintain a healthy body weight (NHS, 2018). Eating a balanced diet does not mean dieting, it is a way of ensuring you eat all the required nutrients in the correct proportions needed to keep it energised, motivated, healthy and performing at its best (Nutritionist Resource, 2018).
