When he leaves, he does not care if his peers are sad to see him go, but he wants a definite goodbye to ensure that he is definitely leaving the school. He is in fact leaving, but by having a goodbye, he has time to prepare and brace himself for his new journey, but if he did not get a goodbye and definite answer about his dismissal, his departure would be that much more tragic and overwhelming.
