As previously mentioned in my planning stage, I had chosen to assist ‘David’ to partake in a group basketball game for completion of my HNC Social Care Graded Unit project. In studying David’s support plan; I had identified his social skills needed slight improvement, with his self-motivation needing most encouragement. I believe the group sports activity we planned and performed met these objectives. Additionally, my placement supervisor has forwarded confirmation of the successful completion of this task via email to my senior lecturer.

Katelyn 15 is the typical teen found on the couch on her phone, but not typical she is up every morning at 5 am for Seminary. She has all honors classes and is pulling straight A’s, she takes after her Dad, smart. This summer she enjoyed the pioneer trek up mauka (mountain) side, in the rain, with lots of cow pies, and walking. We are super proud she chose to play sports this year, even though it was a one-time thing to receive her required PE credit. She chose Bowling (yes, this is a high school sport) and JV soccer. She wouldn’t join cross-country because she doesn’t like to run, however, she realized very quickly there is plenty running in soccer.

Theorists such as Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, Erik Erikson, Sigmund Freud, and Lawrence Kohlberg have studied and documented information about the stages of childhood development. The three main stages of childhood development are early childhood, middle childhood and adolescence. Each stage contains developmental behaviors and characteristics of different age groups. However, the childhood development stage that this paper is focus on is the middle childhood stage. During this phase in a child’s life, they go through a variety of changes. Such changes include; physical, cognitive, social and emotional changes. According to this course text, HDEV (2010), middle childhood comprises children between the ages of 6 to 12 years. As a developmental psychologist, it is imperative as a professional to provide specific guidelines for the healthy development of infants, children, and adults as they encounter the four main stages of life. These four phases, beginning with pregnancy and birth, leading to infancy and childhood, adolescence, and ending with adulthood, will be discussed in correlation with specific strategies suggested for maintaining a standard rate of growth in an individual as it relates to each particular stage.

Given his large platform as a NBA superstar, Jordan gave back to his community and most specifically children. Throughout the course of Michael Jordan’s outstanding career, he made a profound impact on the education of children. During Michael Jordan’s final basketball game as a member of the Washington Wizards, Jordan was given a plaque as a part of his ceremonial goodbye ceremony as a result of his large impact on the education of children by donating computers and money to many local schools. In addition to his large donations, Jordan also has led many campaigns to urge and motivate children to try their best and give their all in school. As a result of his donations and campaigns, Jordan has improved the educational conditions of the schools he has spoken and donated to and therefore changed the lives of those students. (Weeks)

As children grow towards adolescence they go through many stages of development. Child development refers to the stages of physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and language growth that occurs from the birth to beginning of adulthood. All aspects of a child's development may be affected by many different factors, including a poor learning environment, lack of social interaction, cultural background differences, abuse, and loss of a parent. All of the before mentioned examples can affect the child's maturation, "a biological growth process that enables orderly changes in behavior, relatively uninfluenced by experience" (Myers 172). Children grow and mature at very different rates, some faster than others, which is why it is necessary to understand the importance of the different types of child development. Though all parts of child development are important, it is probably language learning that is most important to a child's development as a whole.
Child psychology, also known as child development, is the study of psychological growth of children; how these mechanisms develop from infancy to adolescence and why they deviate from one child to the next. Child development is associated with biological, psychological, and emotional diversity that occur in humans. Although there is a different advancement for each child, these developmental changes may be greatly determined by genetic factors and experience during prenatal life. The early years of a child’s life are very important for his or her health and development. Parents, health professionals, educators, and others can work together as partners to help children grow up to reach their full potential.
According to Erikson, human development occurs in eight stages though-out life. At each stage, individuals work through transitional conflicts a necessary mean of development by undertaking certain developmental tasks (Nugent, 2005, p. 99). The theories of Erik Erkson were used to analyze and interpret the responses.
