Describing the night of the killings, after 10 p.m. on Aug. 20, 1989, Erik says that he and Lyle got into an argument with their parents at their Beverly Hills, California, home. The fight then escalated, he claims. “I was in the foyer, Lyle was coming out of the den and my mom was following him and saying, ‘You’re not going out,’ and Lyle said, ‘Why?’ And my mom said, ‘Because I said so,’ and then my dad came out and he told my mom to shut up. He looked at Lyle and said, ‘You’re not going out.’ He told me to go to my room and he told me he would be there in a minute.” And then, Lyle has said in court, he told his father: “You’re not going to touch my brother. We had a big argument, I was saying that he wasn’t going to touch Eric.” “Dad, he …show more content…
On August 19, their parents chartered a yacht and took them shark fishing. On August 20, 1989, they burst into the den of their home and discharged 15 shots into their parents while the couple was watching television on the couch. Erik said that he fired first, but in the end Lyle fired best: He landed the bullet in the back of Jose’s head, and shot the fatal blow into Kitty’s face. That falling evening Lyle and Erik, 21 and 18, respectively, went to see the new James Bond movie, License to Kill. They couldn’t get in, so they saw Batman instead. They tossed the guns and changed into clean, unbloodied clothes, before driving back to their house and pretending to discover the scene all over again. Then the brothers called 911. “Someone killed my parents,” Lyle screamed at the dispatcher. Between sobs, he tried answering questions about what happened: “I don’t know. I wasn’t here. I just came home. Erik! Get away from them. At first, the brothers blamed the mob, but the grisly scene indicated a murder that was intimate and emotionally charged. Jose was shot half a dozen times, including once in the back of the head, nearly decapitating him; Kitty was shot in her chest, arm, hip and leg, with a final, disfiguring blow to her face. Five weeks after the murder, …show more content…

Sitting next to his father’s secretary Marzi Eisenberg in the limo home from the services, he showed off his leather loafers and quipped, “Hey, Marzi, who said I couldn’t fill my father’s shoes?” Then he wondered aloud to another friend in the car how he could obtain tickets to the U.S. Open. The brothers moved out of the family's Beverly Hills mansion and stayed in a series of expensive hotels before finally leasing condominiums on the water in Marina Del Rey. Their adjoining apartments had ample room for parties and movie nights

“Killings", written by Andre Dubus in 1979, involves several aspects such as revenge, morality, and murder. Elements, such as the story’s title, the order of events, and the development of the characters, are very unique. It successfully evokes emotion and suspense as the plot unfolds in sequence. Though it seems easily overlooked, the title “Killings” is very important due to the fact that the thrill of suspense is left in the mind of the reader. The title encourages readers to question who and what. It is also an intricate setting for the plot’s mood. It implies that a murder has taken place, but that is all the reader knows. The chronology of the story uses a style called "in media res”, a term used to describe the common strategy of beginning a story in the middle of the action or entering on the verge of some important moment (Meyer 2198). In this story, the readers are shown that murder not only takes a life, but it can also take away a living persons sense of self worth, their spirit.
The Murderers Are Among Us, directed by Wolfe Gang Staudte, is the first postwar film. The film takes place in Berlin right after the war. Susan Wallner, a young women who has returned from a concentration camp, goes to her old apartment to find Hans Mertens living there. Hans took up there after returning home from war and finding out his house was destroyed. Hans would not leave, even after Susan returned home. Later on in the film we find out Hans was a former surgeon but can no longer deal with human suffering because of his traumatic experience in war. We find out about this traumatic experience when Ferdinand Bruckner comes into the film. Bruckner, Hans’ former captain, was responsible for killing hundreds
He has them followed so she takes the boys and goes into hiding. The family takes residence in a house where the previous family had been murdered, which they are unaware of at the time. A supporting character, the deputy, is on a mission trying to break the cycle of murders that are happening by burning the houses of where the murders took place. The deputy and Courtney become friends after he helps fight off sheriffs that try to take the boys away. During this time Dylan is being shown murder videos by the children of the dead families. Clint eventually gets custody of the boys, and Courtney goes with them so that they will not get separated. While they are all together, Dylan’s brother Zach becomes possessed by the dead children and decides to make a murder video of his own family. Zach kills his father, and attempts to kill his mother and brother, but is stopped by the deputy. In the end, the deputy breaks the cycle of the murders and saves Courtney and Dylan, while Zach is consumed by Bughuul, an evil spirit. The main character’s role can be viewed as an independent mother who does whatever it takes to keep her boys safe. Although the movie doesn’t show it, Courtney was abused by her ex-husband Clint, which is why she left with the boys in the first place. In most films, the main reason for divorce in families is because the husband is abusive.
Perry Smith and Dick Hickock were charged with the homicides of a small town family. On November 15, 1959 they murdered the clutter family. It took place in a small town of Holcomb, Kansas. The victims of this senseless crime were Herbert Clutter, Bonnie Clutter, Nancy Clutter, and Kenyon Clutter.
Perhaps the biggest factor in why these brothers murder can be attributed to the theory of Subculture of Violence. Subculture of violence states that those who are poor or less fortunate are more likely to engage in violent acts, such as murder and rape. This is attributed to their social standing, and their inability to get out of the lower social classes. The actual cause of violence in these situations is poverty and social inequality. While the brothers are not lashing out at those who are significantly richer than them, they are lashing out at those who are more powerful than them. They are also lashing out at those who make others poor and impoverished.
Since the advent of computers, fantasy role-playing games have made the leap from table top to computer. While the concept has stayed the same, many aspects of the games have evolved. Neverwinter Nights is a role-playing game that uses an electronic model similar to the popular tabletop game called Dungeons & Dragons. In Neverwinter Nights, the player ultimately becomes the hero of the story. The player is tasked with a number of challenging quests that test both the character and, hence, the player throughout a four chapter storyline. While the character might ultimately become the hero of Neverwinter, this game model offers choices that affect the dialogue and experience that each player has, and unlike tabletop games, the world of Neverwinter gives the player the option to play singly, with only non-player (computer controlled) characters. Another option, multiplayer, uses both non-player characters and other players. Additionally, the creators used literary elements to create a gender-friendly role-playing environment for both men and women.

SUDBURY, ONTARIO- Early Thursday morning (March 17) Andy McKay, a 16-year-old boy, was murdered in an alleyway just behind Alfredo’s Smoke Shack. It is believed by police that a rival gang called The Guardians were responsible for this attack.
The major theme of Andre Dubus’ Killing,s is how far someone would go for the person they love. It is important to note the title of the story is killings and not killers, for the reasoning that the story does not just focus on two deaths or two murderers but rather the death of marriage, friendship, youth, and overall, trust.

These are actually a struggle for me because it is hard for me to comprehend stories even if I read them a few times.
Evidence of professionalism on the part of the two killers, Al and Max, is that they both wear a uniform? They wear overcoats. that are too tight for them, gloves to prevent finger prints, and Derby hats. This might be for intimidation, to suggest they are. gangsters or something similar, or it could be that they are not so.
