Describe The Living Conditions In The Life Of Anne Frank

During the time that Hitler was ruling Germany, the jews went through a dark and harsh time. Anne Frank was a 13 year old girl, who was Jewish, that had to go into hiding because of the tragedy. Anne Frank and her fellow family and friends had to hide in captivity for two years. From August of 1942 to September of 1945, Hitler started a war against every jews. During this war, something called the holocaust occurred. This event is something that will always be remembered. Mr. Frank, Pim, picked a hiding spot in Amsterdam for himself and seven, six originally, but then another person came in, others. The living conditions, the freedom, and the relationships with the people differed from when they could be free and not in hiding.

In the secret annex, the living conditions were horrible. For example, the rooms and space they had available to them were very crowded. Peter, Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan’s son, had the smallest room. His room was as big as a closet, only having a bed for

himself and needs for Mouschi, Peter’s cat. In result, he had a very limited area to himself, and a lack of privacy. The amount of food that was available to everyone in the secret annex was limited. Everything that the Franks and Van Daans had to consume included bread, butter, potatoes, soup, and milk. Since these two families couldn’t leave the annex, Mr. Frank hired and relied on Miep Gies and Mr. Krawler to retrieve them food, supplies, and recent news about the war. In addition, the secret annex was boring and miserable because there was nothing to do besides reading, writing, or doing homework. As you can see, living conditions in the secret annex were horrible.
Freedom in the Annex was limited from the hours they had to be quiet to the food they could eat each day. There was a huge limitation on food and all the people were starting to become very skinny.. None of them could go outside the Annex. On the weekdays, from eight thirty am to six pm, they had to be absolutely quiet. This meant no shoes, no running water, and they could only whisper. The reason being is because the workmen were directly below them downstairs. These workmen were non-Jewish, but worked for Pim. On the weekends they had to be careful, but can be a bit louder considering the workmen weren’t working. In the secret annex, the freedom they had was limited.
Relationships were growing and breaking in the annex. Mr. Frank and Mrs. Frank were married and very loving to each other and to their two daughters, Margot and Anne. Mr. Van Daan and Mrs. Van Daan were also married, but they constantly bickered almost every day. Furthermore, they had a son named Peter. Mrs. Van Daan and Mr. Frank had an awkward relationship. Mrs. Van Daan would flirt with Mr. Frank a lot saying he’s better than her husband and showing off her legs. Peter and Anne didn’t acknowledge each other that much, but they started growing closer towards the end of the war. Mrs. Van Daan was very curious in what those two were doing in Peter’s room. Later in their hiding another man comes in, and he’s a Jewish dentist. His name was Mr. Dussel. He and Anne were roommates, but would get annoyed with each other often. This all affected the way the secret annex got along with each other. In the secret annex relationships grew and broke.
The time was August of 1942 to September of 1945 and the Franks and the Van Daans were in a secret annex in Amsterdam.

This was because they were Jewish. Hitler, creator of the holocaust, created concentration camps for anyone who was Jewish. Anne Frank died at Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, but not in the gas chambers; Her sister and she both died the same way by a disease called Epidemic Typhus. Their mother, Edith Frank, died at Auschwitz concentration camp, and this concentration camp was the worst out of all of them. Mrs. Frank died of starvation in 1945. Peter died in a death march. A death march is when they line up all of the Jews in front of a hole, and one by one got shot with a machine gun. Mrs. Van Daan’s death is uncertain at this time. Mr. Van Daan was put into the gas chambers as soon as he got there. Otto, Pim, Frank was the only survivor out of all the hiders in the annex. Anne Frank’s diary was the only thing left of her in 1945. This diary explained the life of Anne
