Jews have perished because of their beliefs since the beginning of time but never have so many Jews been persecuted worldwide as they were in World War II. Anne Frank’s diary reaches a place within all of our hearts because it reminds us how easily the innocents can suffer. Sometimes we may choose to close our eyes or look the other way when unjustifiable things happen in our society and Anne’s tale reminds us that ignorance, in part, claimed her life. Sadly, her story is but one of many of those who died in the Holocaust and as with other Jews, her fate was determined by the country she lived in, her sex and her age. Jews all over Europe feared for their lives and many were aware that the punishment for their religion depended on the country they were fortunate, or unfortunate, enough to live in. Hitler not only held prejudice against Jews, homosexuals, gypsies and those who harboured any of the above, but also held firm convictions that some countries’ citizens were fit to die, no matter their religion. No one was hit harder by this prejudice as was Poland. Hitler hated all Polish citizens and hated Polish Jews even more. In Warsaw, Jews were confined to a blocked off area which came to be known as the Warsaw Ghetto. Many of these Jews never saw outside the Ghetto again and for those who did it was only en route to a concentration camp or labour prison. Food rations inside the Ghetto were very low and though many outsiders smuggled food in, there was not nearly enough to keep everyone alive. Many died of starvation or died due to illness they had contracted because their bodies had grown so weak. Throughout the war, Sweden remained neutral and many Jews from neighbouring countries were smuggled in. Nazi police soon realized that they had to find ways to prevent this from happening and turned to the animal world. Dogs were trained to detect the scent of humans and soon, all boats leaving for Sweden were searched to detect any Jews that were hiding in basement compartments. Most Jews were discovered before they could escape and this discouraged many more from attempting to do the same. Jews that were apprehended were not treated much differently by the Nazis but the Jews left behind received the brunt of the their anger. Danish Jews in particular were often accused of planning to escape because of their proximity to Sweden. There are stories of countless ... ... middle of paper ... ...opted children. When the war ended, many children did not return to their biological families because they were so young when they were stolen that they didn’t know the truth. Many that could remember were too scared to leave or feared that their parents had already been killed. Children were trained to lie without understanding why and the lies caused them to lose the ability to separate reality from fiction. Children should never have been forced to deal with so much, so quickly. They were robbed of a real childhood when they should have been encouraged to explore their surroundings. The youth, like Anne, who grew up in World War II were tainted by these events and have undergone much more trauma than most of us can even imagine. The Holocaust will forever remain one of the most horrific events in history and it is important to remember that there were many different endings for the many different Jews affected. It should not have mattered where the Jews lived, how old they were or the sex they were, none of them should have been persecuted in the first place. Reflecting on the tragic events of the war, all we can do is make sure that these horrific things never happen again.

During the rule of Adolf Hitler, many children who were Jewish lived a very frightening and difficult life. They never were given the love and compassion that every child needs and deserves growing up. The Holocaust is a story that will continue to be shared till the end of time.
Anne Frank was an ordinary girl who lived in Holland during the Nazi occupation. Her family went into hiding for two years in her father’s factory. Several non-Jewish friends helped the Franks and the Van Daans survive under difficult conditions. Anne was not able to explore the beauty and nature of the world since she was behind the safe walls of the Secret Annex. For two years, she wrote in her diary about her feelings and her relationship with her family and her first love Peter. Despite living during a challenging period of time for Jews, Anne has many similarities of teenagers, like myself, who live in the world today.
Today we look back at the holocaust as one of the most horrific acts commited by humans. One man's vision turned into a sorrow story of death for over 11 million innocent people. Everyone of those people were a son, a daughter, a wife, a husband, a mom, a dad of someone they truly loved. It is not physically possible to put the true emotion of this time period into words. We are obligated as members of society to never let an event like this occur again. High ranking members of the Nazi party were tried and convicted of the war crimes they commmited during this time. Anne's story is only one of 11 million people who had similar stories and ended in the same fate.
There have been countless people throughout time who were wonderful people, and Anne Frank was one of those people. She has multiple great quotes such as, “In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.” Most people would have considered Anne to have been a brave individual. I also feel that Anne was a extremely honorable person. Another characteristic of Anne that made her so wonderful is that she was persistent.
Fats is Andrew Price’s best friend for most of the novel; however, Fats betrays Andrew by making out with his crush Gaia. Fats lack of empathy towards his friend is rooted in his attempts to be authentic. Towards the beginning of the novel Fats explains what he believes authentic nature entails. In The Casual Vacancy during Fats’ explanation of what it means being true to oneself it states, “The difficult thing, the glorious thing, was to be who you really were, even if that person was cruel or dangerous, particularly if cruel and dangerous. There was courage in not disguising the animal you happened to be. On the other hand, you had to avoid pretending to be more of an animal than you were: take that path, start exaggerating or faking and you become another Cubby, just as much of a liar, a hypocrite” (75). Fats adopts a philosophy to avoid becoming what he feels is inauthentic, to act against one’s own desires. Fats believes he has an understanding of what it means to be authentic; however, he does not seem to see the bigger picture. Fats rules out the rest of the world in his philosophy and his actions seem to be an act of senseless rebellion towards his parents and what is expected of him. There isn’t much harm in being inauthentic, not to the point where one needs to meticulously judge one’s every action, to find the root of their intentions. Fats rebellion seems to stem from his feeling of not fitting into his family. This type of thinking leads Fats to disregard his friend Andrew’s feeling when he chooses to make out with Gaia which ends their friendship. Fats also is so caught up in his own desires he is partly responsible for Robbie’s death. Fat’s obsession with getting “laid” leads to the toddler’s death. Throughout most of
Argument can be defined as claim or thesis statement. The aim of an argument is to convince audience. It is essential to make sound argument so that audience could engage in and align with the author’s view. Therefore, one of the key elements could be identified as the awareness of audience. Another key element is evidence. In order to persuade audience, argument should be consolidated through evidence and authority. The credibility of author and argument could be enhanced by means of using evidence and referring to authorities. The strength of evidence could determine the degree of sound argument. Besides, sound argument should be logical. Firstly, evidence should be consistent with arguments. Secondly, the structure of argument should be clear. It consists of premise and conclusion. The function of premise is to state proposition. The conclusion is based on and supported by accurate premise. In sound argument both premise and conclusion are valid. However, according to Tyler, Kossen and Ryan (2005: 168) sound argument is both valid which means logically consistent and true argument. Hence, the premise of an argument also need to be true. Furthermore, counterargument could be considered as another key element of sound argument. Using counterargument in text can reinforce writer’s argument through discussing and addressing opposed opinion. However, writers need to ensure that your reply to counterargument is consistent with your main argument. The last element is to avoid fallacies. There are two kinds of common fallacies, legitimate and illegitimate methods of argument. Both of them may lead to flaw or fault in the reasoning and logic.
Honor is….hook. On October 9 2012, an honorable young girl fought for her rights and the rights of others, only to be met with a bullet to her head; this girl’s name is Malala Yousafzai. There are few people in the world with this much honor and good moral. Honor is shown when people act with integrity, taking matters into their own hands to make a good change in the world. Culture affects honor because it causes people to see the world through different aspects (views) , but people still stand up for what they believe in, whether it is on their lifestyle, education, or religion. While Seikei depicts honor by following the samurai code of conduct in Medieval Japan, Winston Churchill’s acts of optimism during the 20th century, and Malala’s courage to fight for what she believes in all the way in Pakistan display honor.

Another example, which happens a lot on many different levels, when someone generalize a characteristic for a whole group of people, racially or religiously, in simpler words “stereo typing”, which as matter of fact another fallacy that our fierce presidential candidate Donald Trump commits on regular basis. Throughout the film there were several different instances of logical fallacies that included slippery slope, and ad populum. The use of interviews involving slippery slope were noticeable from the onset of the film. It could be seen in Kelly Bolar, Joe Papp, and other interviews. The objective of including stories that used slippery slope and seemed unrealistic was to demonstrate how it could happen to the most unexpected crowd. Furthermore, the use of slippery slope assisted the audience in feeling the importance of lying on lives. Fallacies are committed in every state, in every city and in every neighborhood. No race or gender is impervious to committing a fallacy. So, what is a fallacy? Patrick J. Hurley defines a fallacy as, “A defect in an argument that consists in something other than false premises alone.” These defects result in misconception in an argument. Many times they are accidental, other times they are committed on purpose. However, either way, fallacies can be very persuasive to the casual reader or listener. One in particular, the false cause fallacy, is used quite often in today’s society.
The first fallacy that I will give an example is Bandwagon fallacy, or assuming that something is right because popular opinion. We can see it in the example of the Miami Heat basketball team a few years ago when Lebron James signed contract. Suddenly people from all over of the United States started to support Miami Heat, even though they aren’t from Miami, or they have never been to South Florida. Second fallacy is Ad Hominem, or an attack against the person and not an argument. Example for Ad Hominem is when people discard my argument about marriage problems saying: “how can you understand marital issues, if you have never been married?”. The first thing many people think of when American honor is brought up is U.S. soldiers fighting in a war; these soldiers live by three words: duty, honor, and country. In 1962, General MacArthur gave his Thayer Award Speech known as Duty, Honor, Country, and said, “Those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be” (General MacArthur). These three words are the words that soldiers live by. This quote demonstrates what honor means to the American culture. Another culture who values honor as much as the U.S. military does is Japan. So, what is the difference between American honor and Japanese honor? One example is the Kamikaze pilots; they saw honor as sacrificing themselves to hurt the people who their country were evil. Toshimasa Hayashi, a Kamikaze pilot, wrote a journal entry on August 9, 1945 and said, “Today, I shall fly one of the very latest in war planes,...a Ryusei, and I will slam it into an enemy carrier. Goodbye, my dear parents, and everyone. Thank you, all my comrades” (Suicide for Honor). Hayashi is stating that he will fly into another plane to protect his country. This shows that these pilots believed they brought honor to their country by sacrificing themselves when they crashed into “enemy carriers”.
