In the Gabriel Myers’ case, it is clear that various adults in his life committed serious errors that led to his untimely death. As a kid in the foster care system, it is the responsibility of his assigned case worker to ensure that his needs are being met and that Gabriel was in the safest home that had authority figures who not only cared for him but were equipped to provide him the care he needed. Gabriel’s caseworker failed at various aspects of his well-being while he was under his supervision.

Being involved with the department of social services can be an extremely overwhelming experience to families. There are many aspects of the processes families go through that are unaware to the general public. To gain insight into the child welfare field and the role child welfare social workers play, Heather Makulowich and I interviewed Wanda Phillips on October 4th, 2013.
I feel that TANF is a useful program, because it allows people to have access to things that they would not generally have. It also allows for the opportunity to receive actual help in bettering other people’s lives. I wish more programs like this existed and offered not only monetary support, but also childcare and education assistance. If more programs like TANF existed there would be more opportunity to better one’s self and less of a sense of being trapped in a poor economic condition.
Core competency one consists of identifying with the social work profession. This core competency relates to the time in my internship. The following paragraphs will connect the practice behaviors associated with the core competency to the artifacts that I have chosen where I demonstrated the mastery of each practice behavior. The first practice behavior is continually employ and model conscious use of self, self-reflection, self-monitoring, and self-correction in practice situations, which was demonstrated through my receiving feedback journal. The second artifact is a narrative on my first learning contract from my intern supervision, which will highlight my ability to adhere and model professional roles and boundaries. The last practice
When I started working as a personal support worker in a retirement home, I got an opportunity to work for the day shifts continuously for few days and I observed that one of the resident was given prunes along with her breakfast every single day. I wondered why Ms. X was given this every day and so I decided to ask the RN about this. The next day, when the RN came in for work, I went in and asked her my doubt and her answer surprised me. she told me that the resident is suffering with constipation for quite some time now and she is on multiple drugs for her other conditions and they didn’t wanted to add more drugs like docusate sodium or other laxatives to her chart and hence they took this natural remedy and it works for Ms.
After reading the Johnson (1999) article, a question was asked should a social worker attend to the person or the environment first. It depends because social workers can work indirectly with clients by helping them cope with problems such as poverty, abuse, addiction, unemployment, educational problems, disability, trauma and mental illness. In addition, a social worker can work directly with clients to help them deal with the cognitive functioning, emotional functioning and behavioral functioning. Furthermore, I believe the client’s needs should be met first with the understand that there may be several outside factors as well as the level of need or depending on how critical the situation is for the client. Also, clients may require immediate attention because they’re dealing with mental illness that may cause them to himself or herself as well as others is always prioritized to the front of the line. If mental illness is not the situation, then both should be embraced.
This essay will identify key issues facing the client system and will demonstrate an intervention plan. Followed by defining the purpose of social work and the identification of the AASW Code of Ethics, in regards to the case study. Reamer explains that values are important in regard to “The nature of social work’s mission; the relationships that social workers have with clients, colleagues, and members of society; the methods of intervention that social workers use in their work, and the resolution of ethical dilemmas in practice” (p. 15). Reamer discusses the importance of ethical decision making and ethical risk management in regards to any ethical dilemma a social worker may face. Reamer also explores how our values can challenge our profession; opposing or conflicting personal, professional, cultural and religious values in particular. Other ethical issues include confidentiality, privacy, divided loyalties, professional boundaries, dual relationships, conflicts of interest, and a client’s free will or determinism (Reamer,
Case work is not only the basic practice in professional Social Work but rather, a common practice followed by all. The traditional definition defines case work as “a method of helping individuals through a one-on-on relationship’’. Every individual trained or untrained indulges in case work. The difference is made by theoretical understanding and professional ethics, practices involved in professional case work. Mary Richmond in 1915 explains casework as “the art of doing different things for and with different people by cooperating with them to achieve at one and the same time their own and society' betterment.” Social Case Work can also be defined as “an art in which knowledge of the science of human relations and skill in relationship are used to mobilize capacities in the individual and resources in the community appropriate for better adjustment between the client and all or any part of his total environment”.
An outside community resource I observed this week is the hospital. Social services make a hospitalization note. This basic tell the residents status before and after their hospital visit. Everything must be documented in
A social worker is someone who has a sort of passion or drive for helping people. Not just anyone can take on this career; the job demands a special type of person with certain qualities fit for situations that will be thrown at hand. The field of social work can go into so many dimensions, such as clinical social workers, case managers, and even administrative positions in agency settings.
