Social Work Reflective Essay

A. This is Journal #11. My placement is at Weakley County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dresden, Tennessee. The eleventh day I attended my placement was on Tuesday, April 13, 2016. I volunteered from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
B. I spent today with the social services assistant. The first thing we intended to do was assessment interviews. However, because they all were skilled residents, they were either in therapy or asleep. We only interview one resident, who was close to her end of therapy date. The assessment questions included questions about their activities and psychological health. Basically, the ADL was living in the facility. In Social Work 350: Social work practice skills and techniques, I learned about the treatment plan to assess the needs of the client. Something that connects to that is care plans. I learned that if a resident fall, social services create a care plan with the resident on how to prevent the next fall. They decide whether lowering the bed will be beneficial in preventing this matter.
D. This week I observe the staff use of technology. Social services assess the resident’s mood, behavior, and medication. Of course, they are not prescribing medicine. If the resident feeling hopeless or little interest in doing pleasurable things, the social worker check to see if they are on any anti- psychotic drugs, anxiety drugs, or depression medication. This is all entered into the MDS (minimal data static) on the computer.
E. The social services assistant used a lot of acronyms and abbreviations that I did not understand. When I asked her, she was willing to explain and even show it to me how it was charted in the computer.
F. An outside community resource I observed this week is the hospital. Social services make a hospitalization note. This basic tell the residents status before and after their hospital visit. Everything must be documented in
