The initial process of denim manufacturing consist of all common activities from mixing of cotton fiber to spinning of fibers using either ring spinning proccess or open end spinning process. Generally, denim fabric are 3/1 warp-faced twill fabric made from a yarn dyed warp and an undyed weft yarn. Normally dyed and Grey ring or open- end yarns are used in warp and weft respectively. After the spinning process, the yarn is prepared for the warp as beam in warping process. The prepared warp yarns are indigo dyed and sized with the help of two methods. (i) Threads from several back beams are combined to form a warp sheet and dyed and sized on the same machine. (ii) Threads, about 350-400 in number are formed into ropes. 12-14 ropes run adjacent to each other through the continuous dyeing unit. After dyeing, the ropes are dried on drying cylinders and then collected in a can. After that, a worker's beam is
The strengths of the book come from its’ accessibility. The book is easy to follow and provides readers with a great deal of information about the production of mass-manufactured clothing. As well as brings awareness to its’ many issues which we inadvertently take part in when we purchase such products. The book is well written and thoroughly researched but does have its’ share of weaknesses.
TJD International Holding Company (TJD) will perform an industry analysis on the apparel manufacturing industry. China is the largest exporter of this $480 billion market and the EU, Japan, and the U.S. are top importers of apparel. These three import nations account for 90% of all imported apparel. Demand is driven by consumer preference and a combination of costs of manufactures in the U.S. and overseas. “The profitability of individual companies depends on efficient operations and the ability to secure contracts with clothing marketers. Small companies can compete effectively with large ones by specializing in a particular type of apparel manufacture.” 1 U.S. imports account for ninety percent of the U.S. market. The largest suppliers to the U.S. are Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Mexico, and Vietnam.

There are 5 main steps which are involved in the supply chain of manufacturing a T-shirt. The initial step is planting and harvesting. It all begins with the cotton cutter, a machine issued to cut the flowers of cotton. The second step involves weaving the fiber into cloths. This process is called carding in which the raw cotton fiber is run through a machine where it is pressed. After it is softened up, it is then used to form the yarn and then into cloth sheets. The third stage of this process involves the shipment of cloth to the distributors. It is then prepared to be made into its final form such as correct sizes, color, and texture. There is then a purification and cleaning which includes the cloth bleached so that is it then fine and smooth. This stage will prepare the cloth to be final form by making it fine, smooth and of proper size so that T-shirts can be made from it. The last stage, is the shipping of the finished products to the warehouses and from there it is shipped to the various retailers as per their orders. From the retailer end, the product is then made available to consumers so they can buy these T-shirts for themselves.
In my opinion, I think that the proposed Facebook media plan was genius and perfect for the UnMe Jeans brand. The fictional character proposed, Sasha, would add to the brand’s identity. Brand mascots are known to take the role of the ‘spokesperson’ with their own Facebook pages. Brand mascot Facebook pages allow the brand to interact with its customers in a way that is more appealing than directly through the brand’s page. Brand mascots can also help to build relationships and amplify emotional connections (Clements, 2013). UnMe Jean’s target market were women of ages 12 to 24 that tended to be social and taste leaders in their schools and communities (Steenburgh & Avery, 2011). When reading this case study on UnMe Jeans, I started to recall
INTRODUCTION: As a retail major at Florida State, I have been able to learn a lot about my love for fashion. One thing that is true about me is that I love to understand the origins behind different subjects, whether that is my family or, in this case, piece of clothing. Perfectly tying those two worlds together, I am going to be talking about the origins of denim jeans. First I will go over the history, then I will go over how jeans became popular, and lastly I will talk

In the world of fashion, there is denim. It is one of the world’s oldest fabrics, and has been modified and remodelled to go with the latest fashion trends. The first ones who wore this fabric are workers in the California Gold Rush era, designed by Jacob Davis because of its sturdy material that withstood the harsh working conditions. Not just them, even sailors from Italy use this material too as their sailing uniform. Then, it started appearing as an actor’s apparel, and that’s when denim started to become one of a fashion item. People started wearing jeans as part of their daily apparel and even adding their own ideas, such as studs and colouring it with different shades of denim. It doesn’t only stop around that era, but today, they are seen everywhere and has become a major clothing piece for almost all of the age groups. As a reference, we can see young children already wears jeans as part of their clothing, the teenagers added jeans to their wardrobe, and even for the seniors, they consider jeans as a simple and comfortable clothing pieces.

The great reception towards blue jeans is owing to their extremely sturdy and long lasting material. This is because the indigo warp was heavily sized with starch, and the denim fabrics were woven into a very tight structure. On the other hand, this made blu...

Weaving is a common thread among cultures around the world. Weaving is a way of producing cloth or textile. Today we have machines that weave large-scale textiles at cheap prices. Production of cloth by hand is rarely engaged in today’s Westernized societies. Not many people are thinking about how the fibers are actually constructed to make their clothes. However, in other cultures across the world the tradition of weaving still exists. By comparing three cultures that continue weaving as a part of their tradition we can see similarities and the differences between them. The reasons that each culture still weaves vary, as do the methods and materials. The desired characteristics of the cloth also vary around the world as each culture values different aesthetics.
There are currently 6.5 million handloom weavers in India. The presence of this enormous workforce, second only in size to that of agriculture, points to the continued importance of the sector to Indian society, despite the pressures of modernization and globalization. With low import level and additional 4.8 million power loom weavers spread throughout the country, Indian cotton cultivation and yarn spinning have both by necessity grown to be large industries. This shows the demand and requirement of cotton yarn in Indian market.
