Chemistry is a science that study matter, its properties, and how and why substances combine or separate to form new substances. Chemistry is part of our life. Chemistry is involved since we grow up to everything we do. Chemistry is one of the physical science that helps us describe and explain our world. The chemistry that I will mostly focus is on biochemistry. Biochemistry is the study of chemical process that occurs in living organism. Delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabinol could have affects in the chemistry science through the brain, the body, and emotions. Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC is a very powerful chemical compared to other chemicals. The molecular formula for THC is C21H30O2. Scientific research says that delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol can …show more content…
THC can affect your brain’s dopamine and the acetylcholine system. Once THC is in the brain it reduces the action of the anandamide. THC unites with the cannabinoid receptors and activates neurons. It causes unfavorable effects on the mind and the body. Exposing to THC can occur of loss of neurons cells. Even though THC can make damage to the brain, it could also be good to the brain because THC is considered a neuroprotectant. Neuroprotectant can protect brain cells from damaging caused by things such as inflammation and oxidative stress. Tetrahydrocannabinol can cause anxiety. Depending on the person, they could have a higher or lower effect on anxiety. Scientist made a lab if tetrahydrocannabinol would increase or reduce anxiety. The results were that delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol increase anxiety as well as levels of intoxication, sedation, and psychotic symptoms. Studies in rat have showed it reduce body mass, enhanced survival rates, and decrease tumor rates. Physiological effect in delta 9 THC makes an alteration of heart rate. As we have negative effects of delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol we also have positive effects. The brain makes its own chemical that is called endocannabinoids. These endocannabinoids has led to new …show more content…
Delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol can reduce high blood pressure in the arteries. The arteries are vessels that carry out blood from the heart. Prove by a few scientists, THC could reduce of high blood pressure. Most of the scientists still don’t recommend this. Delta 9 THC can also cause weight loss. Scientists want to make this chemical to treat diabetes. It also lowers cholesterol in the blood stream. Scientists also found that it has an impact on insulin. Insulin is a hormone that controls blood sugar levels. Scientist found that THC increases the sensitivity in insulin and also protecting the cells that produce insulin. THC is also use for patients who have cancer. It makes them fight for vomiting and nausea symptoms. It reduces the onset of neuropathy in patients who suffer from that condition. THC can have effects on men, it can cause changes to the structure of the sperm. THC can cause sterility on men. THC can be used to treat and prevent the eye disease. Glaucoma is when it increased pressure in the eye ball damaging the optic nerve which causes the loss of vision. When you consumed THC the pressure of the eyeball decrease into the regular pressure. According to a research, scientists have seen that THC can improve the capacity of
The sole purpose of performing the lab was to utilize aldol condensation reactions to synthesize a cyclopenta-dienone, while using UV spectrophotometry and computer visualization to further understand the dienone. In the beginning of the lab, the tetraphenylcyclopentadienone (TPCP) was synthesized using dibenzyl ketone and benzyl under extremely basic conditions. The synthesis process could be further understood by observing the mechanism portrayed in Figure 1. According to the figure, the dibenzyl ketone will first loose an alpha hydrogen to form the enolate intermediate.
The goal of this two week lab was to examine the stereochemistry of the oxidation-reduction interconversion of 4-tert-butylcyclohexanol and 4-tert-butylcyclohexanone. The purpose of first week was to explore the oxidation of an alcohol to a ketone and see how the reduction of the ketone will affect the stereoselectivity. The purpose of first week is to oxidize the alcohol, 4-tert-butylcyclohexanol, to ketone just so that it can be reduced back into the alcohol to see how OH will react. The purpose of second week was to reduce 4-tert-butylcyclohexanol from first week and determine the effect of the product's diastereoselectivity by performing reduction procedures using sodium borohydride The chemicals for this lab are sodium hypochlorite, 4-tert-butylcyclohexanone
THC over activates the brain receptors causing the “high” feeling people get and giving them altered senses. b) When receptors are over activated people will have altered senses, change of mood, wrong time sense and delusion. II. Short term effects give people pleasure but long term effects are more dangerous. 1.
First of all, some people feel smoking marijuana can get hyper, which providing them the emotion of happiness, and helping them to see the world from a different perspective. However, marijuana will cause a lot of healthy problems to human’s body. Marijuana has many physical effects on human such as rapid heart rate, red eyes and dry mouth. Because the chemical THC will enter into the body when people are smoking it, THC will enter through the bloodstream to the brain. The chemical affects them to feel ecstasy and unreality; therefore, THC will make them feel more confused if people smoke marijuana for a long time. According to, “ Treat marijuana abuse like a health problem” (McMillan, 2007, July 17), it shows using marijuana can cause more serious health issues on human’s body such as bronchitis, emphysema, and cancer. In addition, using marijuana has also been linked to lung damage and affects the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. For example, if marijuana ...
The human body produces naturally occurring cannabinoids. The cannabinoids are lipophilic. Delta-8 and Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) have been found to produce most of the psychoactive effects of marijuana (Carter et al., 2003). Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol appears to be the most abundant cannabinoid and the main source of cannabis' impact. Cannabidiol is
Only about 30 of the chemicals in marijuana have been studied extensively for their psychoactive effects. Of these delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is known to be the most psychoactive chemical. This chemical is converted into over 60 other psychoactive metabolites by the liver (Carroll 1993). These chemical reactions, however, have either proved insignificant or not enough research has been conducted to prove their importance. Researchers have been mostly concerned with the interaction of THC in the humanbody.

Cannabis, which is mainly referred to as marijuana, is a widely used psychotropic drug. There are a variety of species of cannabis, including, "Cannabis salvita, C. indica, and C. ruderalis" (Amar, 2006). Cannabis is made up of several different types of compounds known as cannabinoids. The main component in these compounds that is responsible for cannabis' psychoactive qualities is "∆9 - tetrahydrocannabinol", or THC (Amar, 2006). Cannabinoids function by binding to two receptors, CB1 and CB2. These receptors inhibit cAMP formation and calcium channels, as well as initiate the opening of potassium channels (Meyer and Quezner). There are three different types of cannabinoid receptor antagonists that have been discovered, including endocannabinoids, which are a natural part of an organism, phytocannabinoids, which originate in plants, and synthetic or man-made cannabinoids (Fisar, 2009). These antagonists play an important role in regulating the effects of cannabinoids.
Marijuana has the reputation of giving users a high when smoked, eaten, or inhaled through vaporization. The chemical that causes the feeling of euphoria is called Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). When smoked or ingested, the THC rapidly passes through your lungs or stomach, then your bloodstream, and to other organs in your body. When it finally reaches your brain, the THC targets specific brain cells called cannabinoid receptors (Harding, 2013). These receptors are especially found in parts of your brain that control your memory, thinking, pleasure, concentration, perception of time, and coordinated movement. Users will experience alterations with their mood, have difficulty with problem solving, and will definitely have trouble learning and memorizing. These are just a few health issues marijuana can cause to your brain.

Marijuana has been hailed as a prescription for many ills and physicians once used it to stimulate appetite, relieve chronic pain, and treat asthma and migraines. But is marijuana really a medical miracle? If so, do its clinical benefits outweigh its drawbacks? Should we legalize marijuana? Is medical marijuana really worth the risks? These are the issues one needs to think about before making the decision to legalize marijuana.
THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical responsible for most of marijuana’s psychological effects. It acts much like the cannabinoid chemicals made naturally by the body. Cannabinoid receptors are concentrated in certain areas of the brain associated with thinking, memory, pleasure, coordination, and time perception. THC attaches to these receptors and activates them and affect’s a person’s memory, pleasure, movements, thinking, concentration, coordination, and sensory and time perception. The main benefit is the pleasure it brings. Not only is it enormously relaxing, but can greatly enhance the pleasure of sensory activities, such as eating, listening to music, and having sex.
...ause of the psychoactive ingredient THC can cause paranoia and seizures. The CBD in marijuana may have many medical benefits but until more dispensaries reduce the amount of THC, it is still questionable weather some patients should use marijuana as a medicine. Marijuana can cause damage to premature developing brains and should be tested in a lab before giving to children.
People usually smoke marijuana in cigarettes or pipes, but it also can be mixed with food and beverages. Short-term effects of marijuana include both psychological and physical reactions. These reactions usually last for three to five hours after a person has smoked marijuana. The psychological reaction, known as a high consists of changes in the user´s feelings and thoughts. Such changes are caused mainly by THC. The effects of a marijuana high vary from person to person and from one time to another in the same individual. In most cases, the high consists of a dreamy, relaxed state in which users seem more aware of their senses and feel that time is moving slowly. Sometimes, however, marijuana produces a feeling of panic and dread. The different reactions result partly from the concentration of THC in the marijuana. Other factors, such as the setting in which marijuana is used and the userÕs expectations, personality, and mood, also affect a personÕs reaction to the drug. Long-term effects of marijuana are not completely known, but studies have shown that some people have used marijuana regularly for several months or longer have develop serious long-term problems. Among males, marijuana use can reduce the production of sperm and of the male sex hormone testosterone. Among females, it can cause menstrual irregularity and reduced fertility. Extended use of marijuana also has a long-term psychological effect on many people. These individuals loose interest in everything.
