Education has been defined differently by different people. For me, education means gaining knowledge and skills. Education involves teaching which is done in a morally accepted manner. Teaching does not constitute learning, but the learner themselves must be able to incorporate knowledge and skills in their daily lifestyle or the learning is not meaningful. Somehow, all these meanings show that education seeks to nurture the good qualities in man and make last the best in every individual. Moreover, education is also an important asset that raises people’s aspirations to increased social, economic and cultural performance, raises their level of awareness of their environment and equips them with the necessary skills and ideology for contending …show more content…

Most common example of formal education is schools and universities. Formal education is classroom-based. Teachers, students and institutional are necessarily involved in formal education. The administration and curriculum of formal education are usually well organized and minimum class attendance is required. Next, in formal education, students and teachers tend to have a direct interaction with each other. The teachers in formal education are mostly trained as professionals. The learning process in formal education is full time and students are restricted to a given credit hours. Student’s standards, values and attitudes are not taken into account under formal education. In formal education, students are required to sit for two assessments in a year. The aim of the assessments are to test their knowledge and for them to move to next learning level. Students in formal education institution are considered as empty vessels and it’s a teacher’s responsibility to pass informations to them. Moreover, it could be said that one way interaction teaching method in formal education is not really effective. Although the non-formal education process in open universities are not well organized as formal education, non-formal education should not be considered as less important. The truth is we can only develop our skills and knowledge through non-formal education. Non-formal education does also help formal education to make it more efficient for students to gain knowledge. Moreover, students need to acquire formal education process such as in normal universities simply because in order for them to get a job, they need a have a valid certificate from registered universities.
