The definition of professionalism is the competence or skill expected of a professional. The key to quality and efficiency is professionalism. Accountability is the responsibility and actions of a professional. He or she is responsible for achieving the maximum potential for the profession. A professional with integrity has the fundamental morals to do what is right. Professionalism also means to excel in the designated profession by having the motivation to acquire new knowledge and share it with others.
Professionalism means adhering to a particular standard of behavior, meeting the expectations of others in dealings with them. Professionalism is a pretty big word with big responsibilities and so many meanings. Of course, there is a textbook definition — but to me, it means fighting off your own interests and adhering to a

strict code of conduct, ethics and behavior, that are looking out for the interests of the other person.

In the presence of professionalism, we feel safe, that what we share will be kept secret. That the person we are speaking with is always concerned about our well-being. The core of professionalism is responsibility and commitment. Every routine day we are challenged to bring our best to those we care for- those who demonstrate these values deserve the title of professional.
I feel that if we did not have professionalism, and people that cared about their profession our society would be horrible. In order to have professionalism you must get an education and be very dedicated every day, you should say every minute it starts in the morning when you get ready to face the world with your professionalism that equals to confidence. Professionalism to smile, dress nice, how you greet people, punctuality because you respect and value others time, your actions, respect, commitment, to do what you say you are going to do , acknowledging others good work, be fair, honest, reliable, respectful, be

patient. So many words I could probably go on and on about professionalism. Being a professional in your chosen field means much more than wearing a coat and tie or possessing a college degree and a noted title. Professionalism also has to do with how you conduct yourself during your business affairs. True professionals possess a number of important characteristics that can apply to virtually any type of business. Your demeanor should exude confidence but not cockiness. Be polite and well-spoken whether you're interacting with customers, superiors or co-workers. You need to keep your calm, even during tense situations. A professional must maintain his poise even when facing a difficult situation. For example, if a colleague or client treats you in a belligerent manner, you should not resort to the same type of behavior. Professionals strive to become experts in their field, which sets them apart from the rest of the pack. This can mean continuing your education by taking courses, attending seminars and attaining any related professional designations. Professionals are accountable for their actions at all times. If you make a mistake, own up to it and try to fix it if possible. Don't try to place the blame on a colleague. If your company made the mistake, take responsibility and work to resolve the issue.
