The definition of professionalism is the competence or skill expected of a professional. The key to quality and efficiency is professionalism. Accountability is the responsibility and actions of a professional. He or she is responsible for achieving the maximum potential for the profession. A professional with integrity has the fundamental morals to do what is right. Professionalism also means to excel in the designated profession by having the motivation to acquire new knowledge and share it with others. Professionalism means adhering to a particular standard of behavior, meeting the expectations of others in dealings with them. In the presence of professionalism, we feel safe, that what we share will be kept secret. That the person we are speaking with is always concerned about our well-being. The core of professionalism is responsibility and commitment. Every routine day we are challenged to bring our best to those we care for- those who demonstrate these values deserve the title of professional. I feel that if we did not have professionalism, and people that cared about their profession our society would be horrible. In order to have professionalism you must get an education and be very dedicated every day, you should say every minute it starts in the morning when you get ready to face the world with your professionalism that equals to confidence. patient. So many words I could probably go on and on about professionalism. Being a professional in your chosen field means much more than wearing a coat and tie or possessing a college degree and a noted title. Professionalism also has to do with how you conduct yourself during your business affairs. True professionals possess a number of important characteristics that can apply to virtually any type of business. Your demeanor should exude confidence but not cockiness. Be polite and well-spoken whether you're interacting with customers, superiors or co-workers. You need to keep your calm, even during tense situations. A professional must maintain his poise even when facing a difficult situation. For example, if a colleague or client treats you in a belligerent manner, you should not resort to the same type of behavior. Professionals strive to become experts in their field, which sets them apart from the rest of the pack. This can mean continuing your education by taking courses, attending seminars and attaining any related professional designations. Professionals are accountable for their actions at all times. If you make a mistake, own up to it and try to fix it if possible. Don't try to place the blame on a colleague. If your company made the mistake, take responsibility and work to resolve the issue.
In this scenario, Margaret is a newly hired medical assistant for this very busy medical practice. Margaret had good intentions with wanting to leave a good impression. These competencies are essential for a professional to perform and excel in their profession.
In a highly respected profession such as nursing, professionalism is an important element to staying employed and setting one’s self apart from the rest of the applicants when competing for a potential job. By definition professionalism are the qualities and traits that describe a professional. While knowledge is crucial in any profession, according to an article published by the University of Kansas (2012), “all medical professionals must strive to retain those humanistic qualities integrity, respect, and compassion that constitute the essence of professionalism.” Whether you work in a hospital or administration these three qualities encompass the core of nursing and exemplify what it means to be a professional.
Professionalism is defined as the accrued knowledge and behavior possessed by individuals in order to obtain successful goals and attributes for their organization, facility or work environment (McDonagh, 2008). Being professional while at work let others know that you are reliable, respectful, and competent at what you do. After pondering over the specific meaning behind professional identity and how I should answer this question, I realized that my professional identity is how I perceive myself within my occupational context. I was also going to mention some exact words that described me, however, I believe that a professional identity is not permanent. It is a concept that continues developing throughout our lives. I would like to refer to my professional identity as a process that is constantly influenced by my professors and their teaching style, by my interactions with my peers, and by the way I communicate with others. One of the things that I think is really important to me as a counselor in training, which I learned in my Master’s program, is the ability to empathize with people who come with a problem. I think empathy is a key element in the helping profession, and I enjoy learning how to do it the best possible way. Another factor that is very important to me is providing a sense of autonomy to clients and create an environment for them to feel safe to express what they are going through in life.
