Throughout our lives, most of us will have many different careers and work in many different settings, each requiring a different level or set of skills. No matter the industry that you may mork in, whether it be in customer service, construction, marketing or the medical field, all of these jobs have one thing in common and that is in order to succeed and move ahead, you need to demonstrate professionalism. Professionalism does not mean wearing fancy clothes, suit or holding a briefcase, professionalism means conducting oneself with responsibility, accountability, integrity and to show and give respect to others. When a negative thought occurs in the workplace due to a mistake you should always try to take personal responsibility for your actions instead of placing the blame on someone else. And although you may all have seperate or different tasks to accomplish there is always something that you can be doing in order to have a more positive and progressive impact in the workplace. When you show accountability, you take ownership of a situation that you were involved in. You are willing to answer for the outcomes resulting from your choices, actions, mistakes and behavior and take responsibility for what happens, wether it was good or bad and you do not blame another if things go wrong. Instead, you try your hardest to figuree out a solution to solve the problem and make things right. Personal accountability isnt a trait that one is born with, its a way of living and can take some years to perfect the skill. Some strategies that can help you become more accountable is to dont overcommit, when you take on too much sometimes something may eventally fall through the cracks and you may let someone down. So always before you agree to take on a task, make sure you are able to fulfill and complete the task that you take on to the best of your ability, as you do not want to leave someone hanging or give them a unfinnish product. Another way to help you become more accountable is to be honest. Being completely honest with yourself and with others means setting aside your pride and admitting that youve made a mistake, even if your embarased or ashame. And if something has gone wrong and you were responsible then an apology is always a good idea. When you apologize you are showing what youll do to make the situation right and that you are not going to make the same mistake
