Every day people wake up and go to work to make money to provide for themselves and their family. Not only do they try to be sufficient to buy things and provide what is necessary, but they also try to be successful. But what exactly defines something or someone as successful? In my opinion, society’s view of success today is incorrect. Today success is measured by how much money a person makes, the brand of clothes they wear, how expensive and cool the car is that they drive, and how big their house is. The amount of money and the value of possessions should not express how successful or unsuccessful a person is, but rather any accomplishment, big or small. Yes, having a great amount of wealth and extraordinary treasures can mean you are a very successful person, but that does not mean another person is unsuccessful for not having those treasures. Also, what do all of those astonishing possessions really mean if that is all you have? Having nice things can be great, but if that’s all you have and all you have to look forward to, indeed, you are not as successful as you think. But if money and everything it can buy does not immediately scream success, what does? Success is smiling, being happy, and just simply loving life. Success and happiness can be something as simple as paying it forward. Someone, who doesn’t have millions but has just a little extra, paying for Starbucks for the car behind them. Helping an elderly woman carry groceries to her car, holding a door open for others, or just simply smiling at a stranger and nodding. Those moments can be marked as a success because it shows character and if they can do one thing for someone else and smile then they feel as if they have done something. Not big things but simple things, that is what success
