Hope
The Merriam Webster online dictionary defines hope as, “the feeling of wanting something to happen and thinking that it could happen, a feeling that something good will happen or be true, the chance that something good will happen, someone or something that may be able to provide help, someone or something that gives you a reason for hoping.” It’s the last part of that definition that resonates most with me; however, I think most people think of hope to be something like wishful thinking. For example, one might wish or hope she makes a good grade on a paper, in a class, or finally finishes her degree. This is not terrible. It is a good form of hope with a constructive goal having lifelong value. Alternatively, one might also hope to win the lottery or hit it big gambling at a casino. This type of hope placed in something with such high odds against a favorable result can be devastating. It can be devastating for the person who engages in this behavior and have negative and lasting effects on their friends and family. A desperate hope of hitting it big can lead to a

The biblical sense of hope is not at all about wishful thinking. Earlier I mentioned the Merriam Webster definition of hope and how the last part of that definition resonated with me most; “…someone or something that may be able to provide help, someone or something that gives you a reason for hoping.” That someone or something is God our creator and Savior Jesus Christ. The Bible speaks of hope as an absolute assurance, unwavering confidence in Jesus, who is our Savior, our hope, as we patiently wait for His return. “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23 NKJV) My version of hope is not wishful thinking. My hope in Jesus is an absolute
“Hope is defined as the action of wishing or desiring that something will occur.” Hope helps people move forward in life to see what’s coming next for them. For example, “I had no right to let myself die. What would he do without me? I was his sole support” (Wiesel, “Night”.) This quote explains the effects of hope in a pitiful situation. Eliezer Wiesel and his father were torn apart, mentally and physically from everything they
The poem “Hope is the thing with feathers” states that hope is an ever-present force in one’s soul that sustains one through hard times, although it isn’t rational. This ideal of hope having ‘feathers’ and being the strength that keeps one going is seen throughout Of Mice and Men. Wishes sustain most of the characters, and although these dreams aren’t a concrete thing, they are still drawn to the possibility of a better life. Hope keeps people afloat in hard times, and gives them a reason for living. It’s best to view hope as the maiden in the tower-beautiful, yet unreachable. It’s something to aspire to, but hope can’t achieve anything without work. Hope is something everyone is drawn to, but is only hoping. Wishing doesn’t make things happen.
The world defines “hope” as wishing or wanting to see something happen. Like there’s a fifty-fifty chance it could happen. In the book The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian we see Junior, an Indian boy, go to an all white school. This was a huge decision for him and not everyone in his tribe supported it. Junior still continued to have hope that things would become better. The kind of hope that comes with making difficult decisions.
Hope isn’t just a word, it’s a feeling. Moreover, it’s a word, a feeling, and a desire. In the Urban Dictionary it defines hope as, “A feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. A feeling of trust. To want something to happen or be the case.” So it’s true, hope isn’t just a word. In The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne has
What is hope? Hope is the feeling of desire for a certain thing to happen. Hope is something that even when everything goes wrong you still believe that there is still good somewhere. Hope is something that even the toughest people will feel. Hope relates to the theme in S.E Hinton’s, The Outsiders. The theme of this story, is just because something bad happens, that doesn’t mean that you can’t stop living life to the fullest, and even when the going gets tough you still have to have hope that it will get better.
Hope is the expectation and the desire for an event to happen. For many people, having hope is to see a reality with a positive feeling. From hope, faith comes in. Having faith in something unrealistic motivates people to keep moving forward and try the best of their abilities to make something happen. Most of today’s religions, especially Christianity, based most of their doctrine on the faith of salvation from Jesus Christ‘s sacrifice and the hope of living for eternity, if we obey the laws of God in accordance with the Bible.
The term “hope” appeared many times within the letters of Paul, fifty-four in the NIV Bible to be exact. The Greek term that Paul used for “hope”, “ἐλπίς ”, conveys a sense of trust in a divinely given future. Paul amplified this definition for hope in Romans; he wrote, “For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?”
It can help the achievement of extraordinary things and push people to new heights never before seen. Hope is an idea, something inside the minds and hearts of those pursuing it. It is a concept, yet it wields limitless power. It can be seen in every essence
Hope is the strong feeling of desire for something good to happen. Hope is a driving force in the progression of life. The idea of hope is powerful because it can lead to patience, courage, and happiness. Hope is an important concept in Cry, the Beloved Country. Hope is what the main character Stephen Kumalo must use to keep fighting for his beliefs, for his son, and for his tribe. The power of hope is one of the only things that people had to overcome apartheid in South Africa. If hope were not present, Stephen Kumalo may have gave up on restoring himself, his son, and his tribe. Hope is the concept that helps Stephen Kumalo and other characters develop during the span of the novel. Hope is found in the characters, the tribe, and the land.

The simple notion that they can achieve something they want allows people to keep finding ways to advance themselves so that they can reach what they want. It also allows people to push themselves so that they can not be complacent with where they are, and show that they are hungry for more success and show that failure is not an option for them. The same study showed that the level of hope for a person can affect their mental health dramatically. They have noticed that people with lower levels of hope have shown weaker work ethics, less social interaction, strong signs of depression, and some have even reported thoughts of suicide.
The theological definition of hope is trusting in, or desiring something or someone and expecting something promising. People like to hope for something great to happen in their everyday lives. A person can hope that every night
Despite the consequences, Warrell states that there are still benefits even when you fail to reach your intentions. Warrell responds about dealing with the consequences of risk taking with idea of us, “exaggerating the consequences of what might happen if it does go wrong (6).” She points out that we humans are, “neurologically wired to exaggerate how bad things could be if our plans didn’t work out (6).” What Warrell is saying is that everybody naturally over exaggerates the results of failing an objective thus making them not go for the objective. This is an understandable reason to not take a risk because you may not want to suffer the aftermath of taking a risk.
Once one obtains this hope, the difficulty of Christianity shifts from the foolishness of believing myths to the stupidity of doing what they say. This is my challenge, for God has revealed His will plainly and has promised to help His adopted children understand His Word, the Bible. Once a person agrees to accept the entire Bible as God presents it in the Bible, the test of faith (or mere hope) comes. A mere hoper won't bother (or dare) to keep exactly what God says; a person with true faith will not only try but succeed when he does.
Hope. As defined in Oxford Dictionary, hope is a noun and it is something expected and desired for a particular event to happen. Hope is normally associated with positive thoughts and optimism. Literally, hope is believing in miraculous and astounding events where eventhough the possibility of that particular event to happen is low, it is expected to happen by people hoping in it. In desperate times, hope is the force that people rely on for motivation and strength.
