I am who I am not because of my deeds, but because I have accepted that I am nobody without God. I have acknowledged my incapability, and now there are no restrictions in reaching my goals. I am thankful for the all the experiences I have had because it is part of a learning process. I have learned that God lets us experience an adversity because He wants us to learn something and grow with Him. In knowing this, I see a positive outcome for each challenge. Happiness is obtained through an affirmative attitude towards a situation. Jay Gatsby was a man whose only aspiration was to be with his first love. His mission was to retain Daisy by proving himself to her. On page 133, Gatsby tells Tom that he will not take care of Daisy anymore. Gatsby sought after Daisy for himself. A needed lesson to Gatsby will be how to move on. It is not erroneous to love someone; however it is immoral to intentionally hurt yourself. Happiness is not reliant on one’s reputation, but on what an individual is willing to do next- fight or flight? Gatsby did choose, but he never took his blindfold
...illingly for a murder Daisy committed and not him. Gatsby had a period of happiness when he was with Daisy and thought it was the best time of his life, and Daisy seemed to think the same. Gatsby was still not good enough for Daisy though because he was part of West Egg, the lesser wealthy. But everything seemed to be an illusion; the story took place in the time of the Gilded Age. Nothing was how it seemed to be, while everything seems to be good on the outside, deep down there are always problems and abandoned memories, which eventually come up again and often causes problems. We all make mistakes in our life, love can influence our decisions greatly, but what’s important in life is setting your priorities straight, becoming a better person from our mistakes, and lastly, loving a person for whom they are on the inside rather than any material possessions or looks.
After finally reconnecting with the now married Daisy years after they were separated by the war, Jay Gatsby is determined to win her back and continue their relationship where they left off years before. Despite all the odds clearly against him, as he is of poor blood and low social status compared to Tom, Gatsby “had thrown himself into it with a creative passion, adding to it all the time, decking it out with every bright feather that drifted his way. No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart” (Fitzgerald 95-6). Ga...
“A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.” (Proverbs 12:4) A man should never come between another man and his wife no matter how much history they have together, Gatsby knew that money would take a grasp at Daisy’s heart. Knowing she was married, he took his chances anyhow. Jay Gatsby, or at least that’s what he’s known by, put so much dedication into himself to became a part of the upper social class to win Daisy’s heart again. He can’t seem to stay from his past thinking that someday his dream of falling back in “love” with Daisy, who seems to be an allusion of his past, which comes to an aw when he realizes that their no longer. “They slipped briskly into an intimacy from which
In wanting to receive her love, he was willing to tell her anything even if it was all a lie. As Gatsby put it, “what was the use of doing great things if I could have a better time telling her what I was going to do?” (Fitzgerald 150). Gatsby had an ideal image that he needed to accomplish in order for Daisy to truly love him. Once he discovered that Daisy had married Tom, that news was the trigger that set Gatsby off into his dream of recapturing Daisy. The “great dream” of capturing Daisy had taken over and Gatsby would not stop until he has accomplished the dream. Somehow, Gatsby realized that the only way of winning Daisy back was actually living up to the image he had told her, which was the image of “what he was going to do” (Fitzgerald 150). He promised that he was “the farm boy who reinvents himself as Jay Gatsby, who ‘sprang from a Platonic conception of himself’” and since he had gained the appropriate lifestyle for Daisy, it was time to win back her heart
Gatsby’s life is a vivid display of dissatisfaction and he takes extreme measures to create a life that he is happy with. In his earlier years, Gatsby lived on a North Dakota farm before deciding that he wanted to create a better life; he changed his name from Jimmy Gatz to Jay Gatsby and moved to New York, where he believed he could create a wealthy life (98). Gatsby is successful in achieving his goal of wealth, albeit through illegal bootlegging, yet he still feels he is not accomplished without Daisy. Gatsby is confident that he can get Daisy to love him again, however he is unhappy with the fact that she was ever married to Tom. He want’s Daisy to renounce her marriage to Tom, to tell him “I never love you”, essentially erasing the past four years of her l...
Gatsby’s life was forever changed once they met, he recalls, “I can’t describe to you how surprised I was to find out I loved her.... I was, way off my ambitions, getting deeper in love every minute, and all of a sudden I didn’t care. What was the use of doing great things if I could have a better time telling her what I was going to do?”(Fitzgerald 160). Gatsby life would now and forever be focused on his love for Daisy; sadly that’s what he died trying to do. The memories of Daisy kept Gatsby’s mind filled with possibility of a life with love and passion; however Gatsby was blinded by the fact that Daisy had created a life without him. Gatsby had tunnel vision and never seemed to get his eyes off the prize- Daisy. All Gatsby ever wanted was her love, and when he felt her slipping away he began to close in, until it was too

Happiness is a feeling that humans naturally desire. Without it, one feels incomplete. In this generation, happiness has taken on a definition by how we are presented to one another. It is measured by how much money we have, how famous we are, or the things we possess. When in reality, none of these things guarantee a happy life. Happiness is something that cannot be bought with money, but rather, it must be found, earned, sought after. Each and every one of us has our own list of things that we consider to make us happy. However, happiness shines brightest through the relationships we create, and the goals we make for ourselves to strive after. Along with these two essential sources, we then can mix and match those things in life that we enjoy to create our own unique formula for happiness.
What exactly is happiness anyway? Happiness is when you feel complete and satisfied. It is when you’re content with where you are and what you have. It is the joy of doing something you love, or spending time with someone you love. It is an emotion and the best one yet. Money can easily make a person temporarily happy with the possessions it can buy, but true happiness is more than that. People can have everything material wise and still not be happy. Sure it can buy you many things, but the happiness from it is only temporary and limited. There’s only so much happiness you can buy with money. Money can easily buy you food, a clock, a house, education, make-up or medication; however it can’t buy you nutrition, time, a home, knowledge, beauty or health. But in this debate, one question still raises its head - What is happiness? Happiness is not actually leading a luxurious life, but the luxury of living a life. Happiness is not actually about expanding your business, but it lies in expanding the horizons of life. Happiness is not having a meal in the most famous restaurant, but having it with your most beloved family. It does not lie in attending honorable parties, but to attend a party with honor.
Happiness, what is it, and why do we strive to achieve it so persistently? Happiness in some points of view is portrayed as the state that is derived from self-awareness of a benefiting action or moment taking place. What of the moments that are not beneficial? Can a person still find moments of happiness and success in discord, a little glimmer of light shining from the deep recesses of our own consciousness? Plucking it from a mere moment, achieved from money, or is it so much more, happiness is the precipice that all strive to gain to better perceive their success. As a person lives, they are in a constant struggle to be happy. For instance, even the United States Constitution makes reference to the idea that every person has the inalienable right to pursue happiness. This was the resulting outcome of the enlightenment from France, spilling out into the rest of the world from 1650 through 1800. This revolutionized the idea that every single person has the inalienable right to happiness or in different views the right to succeed. As to how one peruses or conjures their happiness that is an entirely different concept and completely up to their preferred preference, but it is something that a person needs to find on their own for true success.
Nonetheless, happiness is simply the small things that money itself can't buy. Generally talking, it's true that money can buy you happiness, but it depends on what kind of happiness you are searching for. When we don’t have money, we often believe that it will make us happier. However, when we do have money, we tend to want more and the money we have never seems to be enough. Money
