No matter what the world believes personal fulfillment means, the only thing that matters is what the idea means to you. Achieving this goal is neither, bad, nor good, because this preconceived idea of personal fulfillment is false. I believe personal fulfillment is construed, planned and accomplished by you, the individual. Therefore, you as an individual, along with the influences of society, can come to a safe conclusion on how you will achieve personal fulfillment. A safe conclusion would be one you determine that will only benefit you in the future, not a decision that may steer you away from achieving your goal. The world portrays personal fulfillment as a specific lifestyle that one must live. Personal fulfillment is just that, personal. By closely examining your life, observing what society expects of you, and making the right decisions, you will achieve your idea of personal fulfillment. The most important aspect of determining your idea of personal fulfillment is you. You must ask yourself, “Why am I here?” What do you believe is your purpose in life? Many people live several years and make many wrong decisions before they truly realize what is right for them. Others may never realize their true potential. An individual’s highest desires are not true personal fulfillment. Owning a mansion and driving a Rolls Royce after becoming a celebrity is personal fulfillment as portrayed by society and the media. However, this is not your idea of personal fulfillment. You must accept the fact that these materialistic things have nothing to do with being content in life. By assessing your talents, acquisitions, and potential, you will be able to achieve your individual goal. Daily encounters with people are inevitable. You cannot easily avoid the public, your family or friends. As a human being, living a normal life, you will interact with other individuals. What does this have to do with personal fulfillment? Well, no matter what kind of people you choose to surround yourself with, they will always influence you in one way or another. Choosing the right way to react to these influences is the key to gaining personal fulfillment. People will have a influence on your personal fulfillment, but do not allow those influences to negatively affect you. Society has such high standards for itself. However, you cannot let these standards limit you from becoming fulfilled. No matter how much pressure you endure, or arguments you have, do not forget that personal fulfillment is just that, personal.
This unit explored desire satisfactionism, a term that generally speaks for itself. Though it is an umbrella term because there are different types. There is local desire satisfactionism, which is the idea that if desires are satisfied, one is happy. Then there is whole life satisfactionism. It means that to be happy is to have one desire satisfied. This is the overarching desire that your most important desires be satisfied. It is prioritized assessment of one’s life as a whole. To compare local desire satisfactionism with whole life satisfactionism would be like comparing quality and quantity from a hedonist perspective. It is similar in regard to desire satisfactionism, two different types. Several individuals discuss whole life satisfactionism
Where I thought Money, fame, glory and power where my goals. I dreamed of becoming the CEO of Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Moreover, the reason was that currently their CEO makes 14.5 million a year. Growing up I always assumed making more money would make me happy. As I grew up and started, working the goal was always to make more money. For instance, my first job I made $15 a day. I would tell myself if I only made $30 a day, I would be able to do this or that. As the years progress I went on to tell myself if I only made XX amount of dollars my life would get better. Now that I am making a decent amount of money now I can say okay life is better but it is not the money it is my lifestyle and my son that has enhance my
In 1931 when the American Dream arose, Americans believed that the harder one worked, the more one would prosper (Meacham, 2012). In other words, they strongly believed that the American Dream was gaining a better, richer, happier life. Today, the American Dream is still hoping to earn a college degree, get a good job, buy a house, and start a family, but according to MetLife’s fifth annual survey, 41% of the respondents said it was about personal fulfillment, while most American’s say it is out of reach for many (White, ...
The pursuit of happiness ultimately leads to disappointment and a lack of satisfaction because people’s cravings can never be entirely fulfilled. Dalai Lama once said “When you are discontent, you always want more, more, more. Your desire can never be satisfied. But when you practice contentment, you can say to yourself, ‘Oh yes – I already have everything that I really need.’” This quote shows that having high expectations of anything leads to disappointment when the expectation is not met. Also, having anticipations for what happiness is makes attained happiness irrelevant and inadequate relative to what one wanted to get
In conclusion you do not need to fulfill your personal legend, to have a fulfilling life. All you need to do is be happy and content with your life, and you have fulfilled it.
Abraham Maslow defines self-actualization as “the desire of self-fulfillment”. In my opinion, all humans encounter and struggle with the notion of trying to achieve self-actualization through their entire lives. Through reading the beginning of the article, it described that humans are inherently active and inclined towards inner organization. It describes that through society, humans can be provided with the experiences, ideas and conditions necessary for that individual to flourish and reach their full human potential. Through the introduction of the article, it is mentioned many times that humans are regarded as “inherently active and self-organizing” and this relates to organismic meta-theoretical assumptions.
In order to truly be successful, a person must know their limits. Everything is better taken into moderation. Moderation allows a person to work hard to be successful financially, socially, and physically, along with having time to do the things they want. This is where the idealistic quote from Bob Dylan comes into play. People need to set aside time in their week to relax and have fun. This will give them a break from the seemingly unending stress that comes along with being successful. Deadlines at work, relationships that make a person question if it is even worth it anymore, and watching calories just to be in an ideal weight range. If a person gives themselves free-time to do whatever they please, they will discover happiness. After all, is success worth it if the path to being successful makes a person
There are several different types success, personal success is to be able to enjoy life in a way that person decides, and to not let others choose how they live their life. This quote by Christopher Morley describes what is really meant by personal success. Personal success has to do with being happy with one’s self. One can only be truly happy if they are happy and secure with themselves. Personal success is a quality that a person has when they are happy with who they are and is not being afraid of what others think of them. It is about not letting others dictate the way others chooses to life or make someone feel that they have to change what they are as a person. It is about gaining self-confidence and maintaining it. It is about being able to draw strength, and not needing affirmation from anyone. It is about being able to stay happy, even on the days when the phone doesn 't ring. Personal success is also about others setting goals for themselves and reaching them through hard work, dedication and sacrifice. Achieving personal success is the only way to achieve real happiness and peace with you. Personal success is when someone is liking and accepting who they are. This is the most important level of success. Without this kind of success and self-acceptance it would be hard to succeed in other aspects of
Having ambition to be successful is key in getting what you want in life. Ambitions of getting a great job, a family, and any other thing that will make your life more enjoyable is all do to setting goals. Setting goals of getting paid a certain amount of money by the age of 40 is a goal that will make you work hard, and do well in the business place. Having a family and a nice house is also a goal that will make you do well in the business place, to be able to provide for your family. As a child growing up, parents would teach their kids that realizing certain milestones in life, such as, getting A’s in school, getting accepted into an Ivy League college, having a respected career, having a trusted income, living in a two story home, marrying the love of your life, having well-rounded kids, pretty much living the American dream with the perfect family, will make us happy. The honest truth is that even obtaining all of these things listed above has nothing to do with happiness. The Oxford English Dictionary defined the word happiness as “the quality or condition of being happy;” it sounds fairly easy to define, but happiness isn’t just “being happy”. If the word was that easily interpreted, than many people wouldn’t misuse it in different contexts or scenarios. Happiness is different from happy moments. Even though the word happiness is debatable, at the end of the day, it is what everyone is trying to attain.
According to Nancy C. Morse (1997) definedthat “Satisfaction refers to the level of fulfilment of one’s needs, wants and desire and Satisfaction depends basically upon what an individual wants from the world, and what he gets.” Hoppock (1935) defined job satisfaction as “any combination of psychological, physiological, and environmental circumstances that causes a person truthfully to say- ‘I am satisfied with my...
...f being satisfied in life: There is no rule. Each individual has the right to look at things from his own point of view. We can all choose different paths and ways to fulfill our happiness. We can see it in wealth, in the dream-job, or in the people around us. As long as we choose that direction and take those decisions by ourselves, without being influenced by any external thought, happiness is inevitable. Here, I agree with Daniel Gilbert when he said “I don't think that's the problem. The problem is you can't always know what you want.” That is why the most important thing for happiness to be achieved is recognizing our wants and desires because just when we do, we will finally get to say “I am happy with my life!”
Personal success for me is being able enjoy little things that life has to offer. For instance; understanding and appreciating diversity. To have someone to love and treasure, to meet the right person, fall in love, and get marry. To feel that I’m able to love my child and pass on wisdom to him .Feeling that someone loves me, is something that makes me completely happy and successful. Because I believe that without love, life is not thoroughly complete, thus never truly achieve success. I believe that, by being mentally and physically healthy, I have achieved personal success. When I get home to see my loving husband, my loved child, and then I’m able to sit down, relax and appreciate life, then I’m successful in my own right.
I have a very fulfilling feeling about what I have been able to accomplish in my life so far. I want the absolute best for myself and those close to me. I often go above and beyond to help those around me succeed and be the best version of themselves that they can possibly be.
