Becoming a parent changes everything. One of those changes is deciding to stay at home with your child or to stay a part of the work force. If both parents work, usually an infant will go to daycare. Granted, there are positive points to each option, but the choice will have an impact on a baby. The few crucial factors in choosing whether you will be a stay at home parent or send your baby to daycare are: cost of care, physical and cognitive development, and safety. Although each family will have a unique situation and reason for their choice, staying at home is the best option for my family.
For some families, the cost of childcare can be outrageous. For example, working part time for minimum wage and sending a baby to daycare part time would not be profitable. Parents are able to witness first hand developmental milestones that are being reached. Examples of these milestones would be rolling over, crawling, and walking, along with many more. Similarly, in a daycare, fundamentals like tummy time are incorporated into an infant’s every day routine to help development. Staff at a daycare is also required to have an early education certification; the staff could be better equipped to help a child learn. This of course depends on the type of teaching style the parent of that child has. Daycare also provides a positive environment that encourages social relationships between little ones, their peers, and people of authority.
