Information Retrieval System is an activity that will obtain information resources that has been saved in database.
The data need to be saved in database so that user can access the database anytime they want.
This system often use in the library for searching books or in other department for use in searching data.
Database management system often used in large company, however not only with large amount of data, a small amount of data can also be saved in database, which concludes that small company can also use this Database Management System.
Commonly known application that implements the information retrieval system nowadays is a web based search website that everybody uses for example Google, Yahoo! Search, Bing and many more.

Information Management has to do with capturing information, efficient planning, organizing and evaluating the information to interpret for an organization to make well informed decisions. (Hinton, 2006) The main reason organizations depend on information is to improve its overall management in order to yield significant operational benefits in all areas of the organization and importantly its overall efficiency, competitiveness and responsiveness. The improvements either need expansion in the amount of information required or implementing a new information management system.(Power, 1983) The information management system is effective in organizations when the activities are shared amongst various groups, preparing them for change in the information system by identifying problems and evaluating it and gradually integrating actions in the project for successful implementation. (Bass, 1983), (Mintzberg, Rasinghami and Theoret 1976). Most organizations believe Information Technology and Information Management is the same but according to Hinton (2006), while Information Technology is an important role in an organization. Information Management is broader it helps the organization to build, maintain and re-build its business processes and information system.
According to the given task, it is expected to create the database for the management of the company. Such organization as dentist clinic has chosen for development. In order to collect information, many sources with such kinds of clinics were investigated and used for this purpose. Besides, it is necessary to identify the types of systems to which the designed database belongs. As a result of the research, the transaction processing system (TPS) is the most suitable for the implemented functions of the data bank for the following reasons. The first is the relation of this system to the operational level. Laudon and Laudon (2006) indicate that the systems of this level allows helping the managers to monitor the activity of the company and business operations associated with earnings, sales, paysheet and material flows in the plant while other systems of such levels as management and strategic focus on controlling, reporting and prognosis of sales for future, considering environmental factors. The second reason is the operation’s principle of TPS is similar to the developed database. Chaffey et al., (2003) confirm that the system saves the day-to-day bargains during the conducting of the business, and pay for products and services is provided as an example of such a system. The last reason is the necessity of TPS for manages to track the condition of inner operations and interaction of the company with exterior environment. Authors add that the TPS is “the major producer of information for the other types of systems” (p. 44).

This paper will compare and contrast five different database management systems on six criteria. The database management systems (DBMS) that will be discussed are SQL Server 2000, Access, MySQL, DB2, and Oracle. The criteria that will be compared are the systems’ functionality, the requirements that must be met to run the DBMS, the expansion capabilities – if it is able to expand to handle more data over time, the types of companies that typically use each one, the normal usage of the DBMS, and the costs associated with implementing the DBMS.
