Rumi once said,“Dance, when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you’re perfectly free.” Many schools give students the chance to do different activities like dancing, singing, or acting as an educational activity. I enjoy dance the most out of those activities because I can release stress, collaborate with peers, and be creative.
First of all, I take dance because it is a great way for me to release stress. Initially I took dance instructions to get out and get some exercise, but I realized dance had more value. For example, when I got a lot of homework from school it created stress. I then realized dance could help me cope with everyday stress. Furthermore, when I dance it gives me the freedom to live in the moment and not worry about the future. I always obsess about upcoming tests, quizzes, and homework, but I don’t have to think about these things when I’m dancing.
All in all, dance has been a positive contributor to my health and happiness in life.
Next, dance allows me to collaborate with my peers.

When I collaborate with my peers it allows me to work on fundamental social skills that are important in everyday life.
For example, several weeks ago my teammates and I were asked to create and perform a piece of choreography. Also, I get to step out of my comfort zone and become a leader. When the teachers ask for someone to lead, I like to volunteer myself.. Working with my fellow dancers has helped me appreciate a diverse group of friends. Specifically, I have friends who like wearing dresses and eating healthy, but I have other friends who like casual clothes and junk food. In the end, dance has helped me interact effectively, with
others. Most importantly, dance has allowed me to become more creative. It has really helped me learn how to express myself in different ways, and especially with my projects and how I approach them. For instance, I had to build a monument in Minecraft for French, and the end design was elaborate and intricate. Additionally, doing an art form has helped me further develop my thought process. Before, my thoughts and words were mediocre compared to the new level of thinking I have obtained. Lastly, dance has helped spark my creativity. It was like a lightbulb went off in my head, and now I am a more imaginative person. All in all, dance is an enjoyable activity because I can express myself, relieve stress, and work well with others. This can and always will be, an outlet for my life and many others. I hope that I will be able to dance for many years to come.
It will allow me to be a manager and better my leadership skills. I will learn how to manage a big group of people, which is something that can be applied to many various careers. I will learn the best way to be a teacher and to stay calm and focused when things get difficult or crazy. All of these skills are not only applicable to the dance world, but to life in general.

Since the age of two, I have been dancing. I have been involved in lyrical and classical ballet, contemporary, pointe, hiphop, jazz and tap. When I turned 6 I also took up gymnastics. Through middle school I danced, and did gymanstics as well as softball and soccer. I loved these sports but when high school hit, I had to pick one and I chose cheerleading. I chose this sport because it was not only a extraordinary team athletically but they were extremely involved with the community. We had fundraisers for less fortunate children multiple times and even got to interact with them every winter. The leadership role on the cheer team taught me so much, we lead the entire student body to have school spirit and respect at the football games every friday night. My senior year I decided to switch back to dance and tried out for my high school dance team, and made it! It has been such a blessing to me by showing me even more leadership and how to serve others at our school and in the community.
According to Judith Hanna, “dance may promote wellness by strengthening the immune system through muscular action and physiological processes,” which shows that a person can benefit from dancing by allowing the body to do physical exercises which can allow the body to strengthen itself. According to an article by Marjie Gilliam, titled “The many Health Benefits of Dancing,” dance offers a total body workout, using all of the major muscle groups and providing heart-healthy benefits. And that “the benefits can extend beyond fitness.” His study shows that, a recent study in the Journal of Sports Science and Medicine found that teaching the cha-cha to a small group of older adults twice a week for six months was enough to improve their memory and cognitive function on a number of tests. Research published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that ballroom dancing at least twice a week made people less likely to develop dementia (Marjie Gilliam). In my personal experience, dance helped improve my health because it is a form of physical activity. For example, in high school, I was in a dance club and we had to dance to hip hop. It required a lot of body movements and a lot of energy. I remember sweating a lot after an intense hip hop dance session. Moreover, through this dance club I lost weight and got more fit. Thus, dancing definitely benefits our health and keeps our body in shape. In kinesiology where health factors are also present, it is important to reflect that dance has shown many groups of people, past or present, the significance amount of movements it offers as well as health benefits ever since back in the

Dance is movement, space, time and energy (Stinson 1988). While engaging children in dance activities you may let the kids freely dance or have them follow your lead. Having children come up with their own movements, patterns, and ways of dance fosters creativity. Listening to instructions helps children learn to follow rules and directions. As children explore new ways to stretch, act, and dance their movements become more fluid and controlled.
For my performance, I went to the Saturday market downtown Vancouver. I knew there would be street performers down there trying to make money while people shopped. I found my performers as soon as I started entered the market. I heard drums as soon as I walked in. I followed the sound and it took me to two African American guys playing African drums.
