The people who were involved in this project are the first year BTEC dance students. The show dates were Wednesday 22nd June 2016 and Thursday 23rd June 2016. Aims of this project were to participate in the creation and rehearsal of a group and ensemble piece based on the theme of films. We also had to rehearse the piece to a high standard and performed the pieces in the summer recital. Tasks that we had to complete where research into a film genre of our own choice (in this case we chose fantasy films) and present those Ideas, research into martial arts films and gather ideas. After gathering all of our information we then had to Co-Choreograph a dance based upon a fantasy film and learn material and co-choreograph a martial arts dance. …show more content…
I attended every single session without fail and was not late once. There was one week where in the martial arts rehearsal I was ill and had to sit out but I still attended a class and did all of the work at home so I didn’t miss out, apart from that I haven’t missed anything. A huge strength would be that I have attended all of the lessons and that I haven’t been late to any. A weakness would be that although I attended I need to be fully focused throughout all of the sessions and not get distracted by other people. I would say that throughout all of the martial arts sessions we may have only had a full class once or twice so as a group the commitments wasn’t very good, we also lost people from the course during the making of this piece which made the dance a lot harder for everyone. Also throughout making the fantasy film piece we only very few times had a full group even at the first rehearsal of the show a member didn’t turn up, we also again lost a member from the course and from out dance in the middle of choreographing it , but then we gained a new member so it all worked out in the end. It is very off putting when fellow students don’t attend because it puts you off track of what you suppose to be doing, we had to change our weekly plans a lot because people didn’t turn
Every dance that is created by a choreographer has a meaning and or purpose behind it. The dance choreographed could be used to send a political, emotional, or a social message. Regardless of the message being sent, each dance created possesses a unique cultural and human significance. This essay will examine and analyze two dance works from history and give an insight into what each dance work provided to the society of its time.

Learning about Dance is particularly useful for those who do not have a wide and diverse dance contextual, such as students in a preliminary level or survey dance course. Dance is displayed through the human body, it has the control to communicate and induce reactions. Dance existed in early cultures was recognized in a sequence of rock paintings portrayed dance. Since this discovery of rock paintings, several other forms of art have been found that depict dance. People used rituals in order to worship the gods and believed that the rituals held magical and spiritual powers. During the ancient period civilizations sentient decisions began to be made with regard to dance. Other periods that had an impact on dance were the medieval period, the renaissance period, and the contemporary period. Chapter two the choreographer, the choreographer is a person who comes up with the movements created into a dance routine. The choreographer expresses themselves through choreography because this is their way of communicating with the audience. In order to be a choreographer you must have a passion for dance. As a society, we are constantly pairing things together in hopes of enhancing them: apple pie and ice cream, Indians and cowboys, and most relevant to this paper, music and dance. In an art form like ballet, it seems as though music and dance complement each other equally. Truly, it is hard to picture, or perform, a dance without music. However, this may not be the case for music, even if that music is composed specifically for a dance routine. The compilation of the music and the dancing from a scene in the American cowboy ballet Rodeo will be examined to ultimately help us understand they way in which they serve each other as a unit and their ability to function independently.
Dynamic characters are built by dynamic movement in film. Whether the character is sitting down giving a lecture, or is a ballerina dancing on stage, character are born through movement. Movement in emotion, or physical, a characters action and re-actions are what draw audiences into their story. The characters in the movie Take the Lead gain power through their character transformations through dance, their movement on the dance floor directly impacts the way they carry themselves through life. In this paper I will explore three scenes, each scene will show different levels of progression in each character’s life, and I will show how the characters gain more power in their own lives the more successful they become with the movement of dance.

On September 2nd, I experienced one of the most enjoyable folk dances, known as contra dance, at the First Baptist Church. Due to my cultural and religious background, this experience was new to me and full of mystery. However, it led me to wonder how social music, especially contra dance, is powerful enough letting strangers dance and communicate with each other in a perfect harmony.
New Dance is described as a developing art form; this dance was articulated in the early 20th century. According to Chapter 8 in History of Dance book, “the new dance emerged as a response to the ballet that populated the variety shows and music halls, which had a rigid formula of steps and poses” (Kassing). The New Dance was a product of several strands that interlaced together dancers’ studies and backgrounds; these strands and others were woven together in a historical, political, and societal framework. For instance, one strand of New Dance consisted of the concepts, techniques, costumes, and stage settings from around the world. These strands influenced major dancers and choreographers, such as, Isadora Duncan, Loie Fuller, Ruth St. Denis, and Ted Shawn.
The components can be broken down into the following: dance and movement, character portrayal, masks/puppetry, music, costume design and idealistic process. Each component will be analysed in detail in an attempt to portray how this effectiveness has added to the overall musical vision.
Irish dance is known all around the world for its music, style, and costumes. What once started as a cultural folkloric dance has now turned into a worldwide phenomenon because of many contextual factors on the three defining characteristics. In this paper I will attempt to show how the Gaelic League, An Coimisiún, and Riverdance influenced and changed the posture, movement, and appearance of the dance form. The story of Irish dance thus far is one of a constant changing dance that reflects the influences around it. Each of the changes in the style, costuming, and meaning of the dance has molded it into the globally accepted and loved dance form seen today.
A topic from dance history that I have always been interested in is the era of entertainment when dance and song were highly integrated into film and entertainment. I have always loved artists like Gene Kelly, Ginger Rogers, and Fred Astaire, but never really knew much about the artists besides the work in their movies. I decided to research some of the major influences of dance cinema during the 30’s and 40’s like Busby Berkeley and Fred Astaire. The information I discovered is surprising in some ways and largely significant to the progression of film and dance entertainment. Analyzing and researching these artists will give audiences an insight and context to what they have been watching, which is vital in order to become an educated audience
Have you ever thought about the history of dance, or how long human life has known it? Dance has been here longer than we actually think. We can take dance back all the way to 600 BC to Now. Dance has made very big changes overtime. It went from doing it in honor for only the dead or religious situations to now just doing it for fun. The way or different moves have also changed over this big course in time. It ways and moves have changed, and the outfits used to perform these different types of dances. There has been clean and dirty dancing all along, some of things in those dances have stayed, others haven’t. Dance has been a very great thing and will stay being a great thing during human life because it expresses a lot. It expresses itself, and a person can express their feelings, in the different kind of moves. It does take time to get to know the moves but you can get through.
If I didn’t help them with their schoolwork, they could fail their assignment and I would lose credibility in the eyes of the owners of the facility and the students. Breaking the commitment of showing up to dance class would make it harder for my team to practice, and I couldn’t get better. By breaking the commitment of doing my best in dance class, I would make the team worse and would not be able to receive awards and grants that are given at competitions. Supposing I break the commitment of learning in karate, I can’t teach others and I can’t be promoted.
The Northern Territory is known for its culturally diverse population and some would say it is the ‘multicultural hub’ of Australia. With all of these cultures comes distinctive customs and traditions. Throughout history dance has been used to help people develop a sense of identity, the younger generations are also taught social patterns and values through the different dances. The significance of these traditional dances was to reinforce and celebrate cultural law and practices including the celebration of the passage from child to adulthood or spiritual worship. The predominantly Western culture in Australia often causes minority groups to struggle for recognition regarding their beliefs and traditions. This is parallel to the Australian dance industry, where many cultural dance groups feel they have to justify who they are and are often

Preparing for the final evening was as much fun as the event itself. We were a group of eighteen girls. Some, like I, had some background in Kathak while others were dancing in this style for the first time. The teachers worked hard with us over a period of twenty days. They encouraged the team and were patient with us as we fumbled with the steps. It was hard work as the steps of the dance were changed few times till we got the steps all the eighteen girls were comfortable with. We did not grudge the effort and looked forward to performing before the parents.
