INTRODUCTION: This case involves the suspect being arrested for H&S 11377(a)-Possession of Crystal Methamphetamine, H&S 11364(a)-Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, B&P 22435.2(b)-Possession of a shopping cart and two outstanding arrest warrants. LOCATION DESCRIPTION: This incident occurred near the Fillmore Metro Station sitting area, along Raymond Avenue. EVIDENCE:. 1. Light purple/white piece of paper, with a crystal substance inside, resembling crystal methamphetamine, and weighing 3.78 gross grams. I advised Cano to take his hands out of his pockets. Cano replied, “For what? What am I doing with this? I aint doing anything wrong.” Cano was being verbally uncooperative and attempting to conceal the glass pipe from me. I requested an additional patrol officer to my location. I once again asked Cano to take his hands out of his pocket. Cano complied and removed both hands from his front pants pocket. I was able to handcuff and arrest Cano for H&S 11364(a)-Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and B&P 22435.2(b)-Possession of a shopping cart. The handcuffs were double locked. Incident to arrest, I escorted Cano to the passenger side front hood of my patrol unit. I searched Cano and found the glass pipe that he concealed in his left front pants pocket. The glass pipe is approximately 4” in length, with a bulb end. The glass pipe had a white and burnt substance inside of it. Based on my training and experience, the glass pipe is commonly used to smoke crystal methamphetamine. I escorted and placed Cano in the passenger side rear seat of my patrol unit, without further incident. I searched for a light blue bag, which was located in the shopping cart’s child sitting area. I found a light purple/white piece of paper in the right side compartment of the bag. I unfolded the paper and found a crystal substance inside of it, which resembled crystal methamphetamine. Based on my training and experience, I recognized the crystal substance to be crystal methamphetamine. I also found an additional glass pipe in the left side compartment of the blue bag. The pipe is approximately 4” in length, with a bulb end, and a burnt substance inside of it. The front main area of the shopping cart has a multi-colored reusable shopping bag inside of it. I looked into the reusable bag and saw an additional glass pipe. The third glass pipe was approximately 4” in length, with a bulb end, and a burnt substance inside of it. The two additional pipes are also commonly used to smoke crystal methamphetamine. I collected and took photos of the crystal methamphetamine and three glass pipes as evidence (see attached photos). I saw that the shopping cart belonged to a Von’s grocery store. I took photos of Cano’s property inside the shopping cart. Later uploaded the above photos into the Axon Evidence Database.
