The crumple zone is an essential part of any car that provides safety for the passengers during collusion with another car or object. Without any form of a crumple zone, passengers would be much more likely to suffer from injury or possibly death. For this same reason, crumple zones have existed in cars for years and are still being improved to this day. One way you can better understand a crumple zone is by creating a scale model. My group and I have made multiple crumple zones with trial and error to better understand them and how they work. My group and I came into this lab with very little to no experience with crumple zones. Before building anything, we had to come up with a design for the crumple zone. My project consisted of a simple set of materials: a 30cm by 20cm cardboard box, a toilet paper roll, industrial glue, 2 rubber bands, 4 water bottles, 2 Oreo cookie trays, packaging tape, and lead shielding sheets. Every family has some type of devastating crisis, for me, it was an actual experience of my own that caused a lot of stress and concern for my family. Dealing with a bad marriage, I came to a breaking point in my life with allowing too much mental stress in my life that it resulted in attempting to take my life. The stress I had placed on my children and my parents, has continued to stay with them throughout the years, even though it has been over 16 years and I have made great positive advances in my life, their concerns seem to always be there.

The practice originally began as an artform, but recently it has been realised that the mathematics behind origami has many practical applications. This is due to the advances made in computer science and computational geometry. Some terms that are common in origami must first be explained in order for the tactics described below to be properly understood1. A crease, otherwise known as a fold can be convex or concave, referred to as a mountain fold, or a valley fold respectively. All the creases used form a crease pattern. If two or more creases intersect a vertex is created. If there is a series of successive creases relatively close to each other the resulting form is called a pleat. When it comes to cars, there are plenty of safety features incorporated by manufactures to ensure a smooth and safe ride. Some of these features seat belts, airbags, and antilock brakes. Nowadays, there have been great improvements to technology within cars to aid in the avoidance of collisions altogether. Examples of these technologies include blind spot detection, backup cameras, 360-degree cameras, and autonomous driving. Many of these newer safety features are there to avoid collisions. However, whenever a collision does occur, there is not much there to protect passengers in the rear of the car. Looking into this, there is evidence that shows that rear passengers do obtain injuries in collisions and pose the threat of contributing to others injuries. So, why are rear passenger airbags not standard in your vehicle?
