Imagine: It’s Saturday morning in Charleston, South Carolina. On this brisk morning, a resident is reading a book with a cup of coffee on the porch of his historic home. Without warning, a boisterous call from the PA System of a cruise ship pierces the tranquility of the morning. This call signals the departure of the cruise ship, which is then followed by an unnecessary horn, wailing four times. According to a citizen of Charleston, this is a common scenario as it repeats 104 times a year. The cruise ship in Charleston disrupts the residents, pollutes the atmosphere which harms the historic infrastructure, plunders city laws, harms marine life through waste dumping, blocks beautiful views through violating building height codes,
Currently, foreign cruise liners operate almost completely outside of the scope of the U.S. tax system, and this arguably has a discriminatory impact on U.S. cruise lines. Generally, if a foreign corporation is deemed to have a permanent establishment in the United States, they are subject to a tax on the portion of their income that is attributable to the U.S. For example, if a foreign clothing company, had just one small store in Miami where there could be “continuous and systematic” presence, it would be viewed to have a permanent establishment and taxed 30%. Since foreign cruise corporations fall into the category of “shipping,” the headquarters they have in the U.S. aren’t considered a permanent establishment. Therefore, the U.S. isn’t
This report provides an analysis and recommendation of current issues faced by Singapore-based Meli Marine, a leading container shipping company in the intra-Asian market, weather gain a presence in the Asia-North America trade routes through an acquisition of 16 vessels of Teeh-Sah Holdings. On the surface, this opportunity would expands Meli’s business and diversify it’s operations and provide a protect function against a downturn in intra-Asian market. But, this oppotunity will bring Meli lots of economic risks. It would return Meli to its former less flexible model with owning vessels also. I recommend that Meli giving up this opportunity and keeping going current excellent customer service then gradually into TransPacific
The national transportation system was composed of relatively discrete units of rail, road and water transportation sub-systems, which interfaced by necessity rather than by design. Today, due to increasing cargo volumes and competition from other national port systems, the cornerstone of our national port and waterways system must be the recognition that intermodalism maximizes the efficiency of our system and provides the well marked pathways to future planning and development efforts. Intermodalism requires a seamless transportation system, which provides smooth transition of cargo from one transportation mode to the other. It also requires the recognition that the waterborne and land based infrastructure must develop with the needs of the users in mind. These developments must include developing technology in the areas of ship design and onboard equipment, vessels traffic systems, aids, and port access programs that efficiently link marine transportation systems to their rail and road links.
The company’s current strategy is to attract more repeat cruisers and new cruisers of different segments by offering different types of packages. Such differences include choice of shorter or longer cruises, a low to moderate price for affordable cruises for middle class, and longer luxury cruises for affluent classes. As part of the company’s plan, Carnival is "going global" through a joint venture with Hyundai Merchant Marine to the Asia market.
The Provision Master is facing a challenge jobs because the Provision Master must analyze the previous trips experiences, the season, and the current customer base so that enable to come out a list which can satisfy the passengers’ need. The Provision Master may need to consider where the passengers from like US based, European based or Asian based because different region passengers consume different things. The Provision Master also has to consider the number of child passengers on the cruise because they consume less than adult passengers. When the list is finalized, it is transmitted to RCCL’s procurement department, which then does an extract in the system and sends purchase requisitions to suppliers via electronic data interchange (EDI), fax or e-mail.

A second strategy that has been rejected is one concerned with the consumer awareness of SGC. Currently, SGC is only advertising to travel agencies. Coupled with segmentation, SGC’s current advertising strategy has hurt SGC in the sense that consumer awareness is considerably low. Only a small portion of the population even knows that Sea Goddess exists. SGC is only targeting those who travel frequently. They may want to target the portion of the population that wants to travel, but is unsure of where to go or what to do. In order for SGC to reach the consumer, new efforts must be made in the advertising plan. Mere travel agency recommendations are not going to be enough to keep SGC alive in the marketplace. Other vehicles are going to be necessary to spread SGC’s message about the luxuries and benefits of this extraordinary cruise. At the present time, only a small number of all travel agencies have the sufficient knowledge that it takes to make an informative sell to the consumer. It may be profitable for SGC to employ some hi...
For the introduction, brief information regarding my purchase and the travel and tourism industry is presented. It was then followed by the explanation of the 2 chosen theories from two different chapters.
The consumer, due to the economic decline, has developed a taste for an economical traveling experience, these substitutes offer cost undercuts. According to the United States Department of Labour, the unemployment rate in the US averaged to 8.9% in 2011. Higher unemployment rates strains discretionary spending, which in turn reduces the leisure travel by the customers. Sluggish wage gains and a credit crunch are all expected to keep customers relatively cautious in 2012. Thus, a weak economic outlook for the important markets of Hilton Worldwide would put pressure on its top line and bottom line growth (Hilton Worldwide, 12).
In 2013-14 Tauranga had 83 voyage calls, 25 vessels entering with 83 port days in total. They also had 100 unique passengers and 149,000 passenger port days. Tauranga has established itself as a go-to destination for cruise passengers, with its natural beauty and friendly locals it is not hard to see why. Over the years, Tauranga’s cruise tourism has changed from the 2013-14 statistics, the amount of voyage calls this year has gone down but the amount of unique passengers has gone up to 160,100.

Wow! I am really going on a cruise today. When I get all my things together at my house I hit the road and drive to our destination. When I arrive to my destination, there is very many people there, and very enormous cruise ships beside me. I walk around for a little while until they tell me to get ready to border the ship. It takes me a while until I reach the entrance to the cruise. When I get closer it gets bigger and bigger and it blocks off the sun from me. When I look up to the entrance the door rises down and everyone hurries in so they can get in their room and I do the same. I finally reach the top and I go inside and it is very magical and wonderful.
