My father and I woke up in this giant ship, we were surrounded by foul-smelling men of all ages, there were no women. Our money was all taken by the seamen and it looked like we were not the only ones kidnapped, several other men and boys were around us. I’m the only 14-year-old on the ship, the other boys were as old as 16. My father and I assumed we were drugged at the tavern we stayed at. The seamen didn’t take my mother and sister, only us. I started getting really dizzy from the ship rocking back and forth, the sound of the waves made me anxious of what was out at sea. We started exploring the ship and asked the seamen about where were headed, no one seemed to know. As we got to the deck of the ship, we saw that is was nighttime but a …show more content…
There has been a big leak on the upper deck, sea water was pouring all over on to the deck and people were trying to get the water out with buckets. My father told me to stay in berth deck while he tried to help with the leak. The captain screamed and whipped the people who were still in bed, not helping out with the hole. He allowed me to stay since I wouldn’t be any help. Everyone relaxed after the leak was under control, someone boarded up the deck wall. It was now early in the morning and some other boys and I were forced to mop the deck, which was soaking wet with sea water. I could barely move, I was famished and thirsty, so was everyone else. But the fear of the punishments kept us going. After we finished our work, the captain and a few seamen handed out small portions of hardtack, rice, and a few pieces of salted beef. Everyone on the ship devoured all the food and gulped down liquor and ale. I was still a bit hungry but I knew the captain wouldn’t let me eat more. We were put to work right away after we ate, all the men were taught how to work on the ships and I was taught how to keep the ship clean and do small chores like chase rats. My father and a few other men were in charge of looking out for dangers from the crow’s nest. We worked all day and by night, we were all so exhausted, the work seemed like it never
The Way Juliet Feels in Act 3 Scene 2 of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet
It was a warm rainy June night the humidity was high which made it even harder to breathe on the crammed boat. My family was asleep on the constantly rocking boat suddenly the boat shook, but my family was still fast asleep. I couldn’t seem to fall asleep so I got up and stepped out on the cold wet steel boats upper deck to get some air. When I got outside I realized that it was pouring bucket sized rain. I saw increasingly large waves crash furiously against the lower deck. Hard water droplets pelted my face, I could taste the salt water in my mouth from the spray of the ocean. Suddenly A massive wave slammed hard against the ship and almost swallowed the boat. Wind gusts started kicking up. I held onto the rail grasping it as if it were my prized possession. Suddenly I was blown
I was having a blast, a whole summer being at home with my friends. Until one day I got more that I bargained for.My friend, Caleb, and I were out surfing one day waiting for the tide to start rollin in. Then all of the sudden Caleb as knocked of his board. As I look around all I could see was the icy blue ocean take the appearance of a battle ground. I remember the scream that destroyed my soul. The shaking of the water coming from a man fighting for his life. I remember the words coming out of my mouth “Hey we should go surfing at Buffels bay today, it 's pretty goddamn rad there”. The feeling of guilt that took over my body, along with the fear of what will happen next. I remember the haunting image of a man missing his leg being taken away by the metal angel we call helicopters. A week later Caleb was alive, but was not left untouched like me. He was missing his left leg from the knee down, he was attacked by a great white shark. This was the moment that my life changed. I could never focus on the nightmare inducing screams, but I focused that how incredibly lucky I am to have walked away from this whole event unharmed. I focused on the fact that two months later Caleb was back into the ocean, something I could never
This place was terrible. They took our clothes away, forced hundreds of us into tightly packed rooms, literally stacked on top of one another like a can of sardines. I was missing you all so much and needed you at the time for comfort. I could not stand it anymore as we rocked back and forth, weeping and angry. As I was bleeding terribly, I forced myself to unlock my hands from the chain. At that point I didn’t care how much pain I was in, all I wanted to do was escape. When I finally did escape and free the others, this raging power came upon me to takeover the ship. The others and I killed all but two of the Spanish on the ship. It felt good to let out all the anger that was built up inside of me and I felt accomplished and powerful.
The trees are big, leaves flowing in the wind, soft sand on your feet and the best of all the shining blue water of Maui,Hawaii full of underwater plants and mysterious creatures. Although, Hawaii can be scary deep down, deep in the wild that is unknown and undiscovered.
I gingerly stepped on to the ship, as it wobbled side-to-side; slightly fearful of the soft blue sheet beneath me stretching to the horizon, undulating like the heaving breast of a runner having completed a race. At nineteen years old, some may think it is juvenile to fear the ocean, but not to me. I mean, how could someone look at the rising tides; getting closer each time, as if impending doom, and not get even the slightest chills of fear? And living above those rising tides for seven whole days? My stomach leaped forward. I heard my friends stepping on behind me: laughing and bickering playfully, and could slowly feel the fear begin to dissipate as excitement for the upcoming voyage took over my senses. It only grew as I glanced around. The inside of the cruise ship strangely but incredibly resembled a mixture of the buzzing and stimulating surroundings of Las Vegas, and the posh and classy atmosphere of Beverly Hills; which happened to be two of my favorite places; living in the States as we did. There were large branded stores, casinos, restaurants with worldwide cuisines, a games arcade; where I just knew the guys would
That evening aboard ship was even wilder than the evening before. We saw the chaperones just walking around and looking. Word got around that the chaperones had given up on us. They were going to just let us run wild and do whatever we wanted to do. Needless to say, we did. We were docked in Florida and back home before we knew it.
It was dark when we got on the boat and remained as such for the remainder of the voyage. Our seats were located on the outside of the upper deck. The cruise was cold, salty and unbearably windy. The Aegean Sea was churning and crashing into the sides of the boat. My sister and I, huddled underneath copious amounts of blankets, would feel sporadic splashings of seawater on the tops of our heads or the blanket covering us. When we were about ten nautical miles offshore of the island, I emerged from my makeshift shelter on the boat and started to look for any sign of land. I was being pelted but endless wind, the air was dense with mist and sea salt. I began to see what looked to be a large city on the shore of what I couldn't make out at the time but what ended up being the island of Chios, our
I stand in the corner of Granville Island’s pavilion, watching a street performer and breathing in the smell of freshly baked bread from the bakery behind me. Mom and Dad were standing in the super long line for the ferry back to Vancouver, but I know that there’s plenty of time for doing anything because the line’s so long. “Hey, Mom? Is the line shorter?” I call out.
I could see the crew up on the deck from where I stood on the ground, all pacing around, serious and nervous expressions etched onto their faces, which could easily be mistaken for their nervousness for the ship's take off, but something about the way they were all whispering to each other made me think otherwise, it was as if they knew something that we would never know. The whispers and nervous expressions of the crew weren't the only signs, but they should have been the only ones I needed. A large dark spot was spread across the front side of the ship, standing out against the rest of the steel from the significant change in color, it was odd, almost as if someone had held a flame to the side of the ship and allowed the steel to darken. Despite the warning signs, I still got on the ship, glued to my mother's side as we greeted the other first class members, many much wealthier than us and all completely unaware of the panic I was feeling because of the danger I was sure would come creeping around the corner at any second. It was the night of the sinking that I learned the secret behind the crew's discretion, I was wandering the halls late at night after being awoken by the sound of a bell echoing throughout the entire ship, the warning bell to be precise, and then an awful
There were deafening sounds across each ends of the vessel and intense voices coming from a masculine perspective. I perceived that the mammoth like figures were looting pirates. There were numerous accounts of pirates raiding ships across the Cemetery Ocean. Since I was a child, myths began to emerge about these wild figures and their death penalties. Promptly, I glimpsed around myself to see if I could locate objects for defense.
“Why are you obsessing over it so much?! He’s dead to us and to this city! Going beyond the city limits is certain death. God knows what’s out there, just waiting to kill you.”
Hughes ran along the hot sandy beach of Oahu, Hawaii. Oahu was a secret military that the enemies had found. It held missiles and experimental weaponry. The enemies had found it and captured it, he was there to take it back. He was just let out of a reinforcement helicopter onto the beach and it was already dangerous. He was trying to reach the front line to push the opposition back, but it was all for nothing he was stuck in the back. Hughes was thinking about how he could move up get to the front. As he figured out how to get to the base, he saw a large tank come up a dune with two smaller tanks trailing behind it. He knew this would be a hard battle considering they were now out gunned by the three massive tanks and two-thousand soldiers.
We rounded the corner from the deep blue ocean of the South Pacific through the narrow entrance into the atoll surrounding a beautiful French Polynesian island. I had gotten used to reciting my duties in my head—making sure the switches were turned on, monitoring the navigation system, and preparing the ropes for entry—but would sneak quick glances at the view as much as I could. I had never seen anything like it, but navigating through the shallow water to find a safe anchorage for the night was no easy task and I needed to stay focused. After the anchor was lowered into the pristine blue water, as a member of the crew, it was my duty to dive off the boat and check to make sure the anchor had been set.
I swam through the sea illuminated by the flames to find Tom."You okay buddy?""Yeah the flames were everywhere and I wasn't sure what to do.""Well you did the right thing Tom."Finally he was beside me riding over the waves. We found a large board that supported our weight and we began to circle the destroyed vessel. I began to feel weary from inhaling so much smoke. Everything was going dark and before long I couldn't hold on. I don't know when I woke up.
