Being a teacher requires dedication, responsibility, and determination. Spending each and every day in the classroom allows for teachers to perfect their practice and create an effective classroom atmosphere. I feel having a clearly stated mission statement is the most effective way to keep my professional goals and hopes for students the center focus of instruction and interactions in the classroom. As stated in Creating a Mission Statement (O’Hanley, 2015) “your mission statement should tell the public what your core intent is in educating the students within your community” (p.12). After much thought and revision, I feel the following is my educational mission statement. My mission is to create a safe, engaging, encouraging, and consistent …show more content…
In my classroom, my mission statement will not only be displayed on the wall for students, colleagues and parents to see, but I will also be making a small framed version to place on my desk. It is important for the entire classroom community to be aware of this mission and know what I am devoted to accomplishing in the classroom. Having a poster displayed is a great use of not only the sometimes sparse classroom wall space, but also a reminder to the classroom community as a whole why we are there. Having my mission statement in clear view on my desk shows my dedication to my classroom, and gives me a reminder while I am working on lesson planning, grading or other non-instructional aspects of teaching my reason for being there and motivation to keep working hard. The display of my mission statement, will keep my ideas and goals fresh in my mind daily and allow me to be the best teacher and classroom citizen I can …show more content…
To me, this includes not only lesson planning, but spatial changes and designs in the room, organization, and classroom management. One of the many desirable traits of teachers mentioned in On Being a Teacher: The Human Dimension (Kottler, Zehm, Kottler, 2005) is being “well organized and a good manager” (p. 21). Having my mission statement easily accessible aids in being both organized while planning and capable of managing my class efficiently. Daily lesson plans are where the bulk of classroom instruction is based. Keeping lessons approachable and within my students’ zone of proximal development allows to me to reach my goals of allowing all students to learn and keeping them engaged in learning. The layout and organization of a classroom are also important in keeping students feeling safe and allowing for consistent classroom management. When students know what to expect in the classroom as well as how the classroom physically functions, they are more capable of focusing on learning and are more confident in the classroom. By keeping my mission statement close to my planning area, I can refer to it while making classroom changes and lesson plans so that I can effectively run my classroom with my student’s best interest in
Having a well thought-out comprehensive behavior management plan, and well- designed lesson plans, which addresses the various learning styles of the students in the class and gets all the students engaged in the learning activity.
our mission is †̃Respect others as you want to be respectedâ€TM which was chosen both by pupils and staff. Being respectful and demonstrating good values will ensure that we welcome and promote a
Most educators do not make new lesson plans they change ones by adding instructional strategies. The more ways an educator teaches the better off the students are when it comes to learning. Not all students learn by listening to a lecture. There are visual learners, kinesthetic learners (hand-on), and auditory learners. If an educator can reach out using all of these styles most if not every student will learn what is being taught. Intelligence has been separated into different parts; “linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal behaviors” (Hardman, 2011). Knowing this as an educator a lesson plan should incorporate auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners, thus covering all areas.
The focus of the mission statement is geared towards the qualities they would like the students of the college to develop. For example, “Spring Hill College forms students to become responsible leaders in service to others.” This is a clear goal that Spring Hill College would like to instill in every student. Another clear example would be that statement that reads: “We offer our students a thorough preparation for professional excellence...”. The author does not stray from the main goal and presents the mission in an elegant and comprehensible way. This makes the mission statement more effective than a mission statement that does not present a clear
By incorporating the theories of Piaget and Maslow into lesson planning, I can choose realistic and meaningful instructional strategies and designate assignments at the appropriate challenge level. My goal is to motivate my students to strive for their best and provide them an environment where they can successfully prepare for college and life. Mary Kay Ash was phenomenal at motivation and said it best: “Don't limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve.” (Ash). Knowing that each class will be different and that what works for one class may not work for another will aid me in being an effective, efficient
We as educators must always plan, create, update information, learn new things, observe other teachers, meeting the student where they are. If we don’t take the time out to teach them they will never know. Giving back to our students what was giving to us. The Bible tells us in Deuteronomy 11:19-20 says ”And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and thou risest up”www.biblegateway.com. It’s our duty to teach them everything we know. Even when they don’t want to learn it. We must teach even when we don’t feel like it. They must know. God will hold us accountable for what we have not given them. Our lesson plans must be in order to get them to work, learn and come away with an understanding and skills they need in life to make it. To give our students what they need to go to the next phase or level in their life. We are part of the puzzle. We are the one piece they need to move ahead. Teaching them how to problem solve. “Teachers should provide opportunities for students to be successful in completing tasks they value and see as challenging. Teachers who are intentional about involving students in goal setting and self-assessments will enhance student’s motivation to learn” (McCullough, 2008). We they learn this they will become independent. It’s like reaching their goals and objectives when they get it
...n the classroom is very important. I would encourage each student that they are capable of whatever they desire, whether to grow up to be the first woman president, an astronaut, fireman, or a cashier; along with those dreams they must know that all of their dreams start in the classroom with their education. I will also teach them that whatever they desire in their future, to be the best they can be.
OUR MISSION: Academic Excellence and Character-Building It teaches students to see life from God’s point of view to take responsibility for their own learning, and to walk in wisdom. All activities and extra-curricular,
My teaching career has been spent learning how to provide appropriate support, guidance, patience, & understanding, as well as to enhance academic growth & success, for all students. My purpose as a teacher is to enrich and inspire the lives of young students with moderate/intensive needs by providing access to information instead of functioning as the primary source of information for students to flourish. My teaching methods will be to create an environment ripe with opportunities for discovery and exploration which will allow all students to learn at their own pace, generate questions and construct knowledge, while providing hands-on practice of skills in authentic situations as well as to make learning intriguing and meaningful to all students. Carefully planned and constructed learning environment will also allow the teacher more time to meet the individual needs of each student. Another important factor to a well-prepared learning environment is to facilitate learning, and providing students with balance and consistency (2004). Young students require a balance between various classroom dimensions, including activities guided by the teacher and independent work, quiet work and active work, gross motor and fine motor activities, and open and closed aspects to the curriculum and classroom materials (2004). Consistency is also a required condition for learner success. Schedules (daily and weekly), the enforcement of classroom rules, and student expectations should not be in flux but remain consistent. Without a sense of consistency in the classroom, school life would lack the necessary feeling of safety and reliability young children need to focus, to take risks, and to t...
I could go on at length, discussing all aspects of my praxis as an educator, however, that would lead to a paper of excruciating length. These aspects of my teaching pedagogy that are delivered in this praxis statement are those that I feel strongest about upholding. It is important for educators to value their students and the perspectives and cultures they bring to the classroom. Student-centered education is what I find to be the key to great teaching, and overall, is the greatest way to allow students to value and grow through their own self-exploratory and self-directed education. Valuing and appreciating each of your students is what makes teaching such an enlightening, uplifting profession.
Being able to know there needs and help them succeed in their education or life to make the student better. Getting to know the students and knowing their strengths and weaknesses will help them be able to move forward and grow as an individual. Having an individualized plan for each student is extremely important. When it comes to child especially at such a young age of infants having an individualized plan for them will help them succeed in life. It is important to get families involved in the classroom environment.
Predominant goal is having a classroom management and creating a safe learning environment. Learning how to manage a classroom successfully is a difficult task for teachers. The everyday concern of beginner teachers is classroom management. Beginners teachers report the weak classroom management skills and disruptive students are the most significance barriers to being a good teacher (Fideler & Haskelhorn, 1999). Teachers have blamed their lesson plans, preparation in their first years of teaching (Ladd, 2000; Monroe, Blackwell, & Pepper 2010). As a teacher, it is my desire to have my students to have a safe learning environment.
A lesson plan is a teacher’s detailed description of the course of instruction for one class. There are many different parts of a lesson plan. For example, there is the title, which is where one would explain what it is the lesson plan is going to be about. Then, there are the learning outcomes, which are what the students are required to be learning after completing the lesson plan. After
First, understanding that children may have a preferred learning style, she incorporates into her lesson plans the strategies which address visual learners, kinesthetic learners, and audio learners. Most children do not have just one learning style, therefore, they benefit through different learning centers. Learning centers include the science center, the math center, the art center, the library, the writing center, and the dramatic play center. Next, she uses teacher centered strategies to lead many of her lesson plans so that she can guide and coach the children through the activities. Since the children are very young, she feels modeling and coaching the children are the most productive techniques. She does try to create lesson plans that vary in complexity and challenge the children based on their own ability
My classroom management starts with a well-organized, clearly labeled classroom layout so that my students can easily access the resources they need for my class. I display visual aids and reminders around the room to support the students and I display their work in specific places around the room to give them a sense of belonging. I create routines and procedures to support the students and enable them to form smooth transitions between activities. There is a certain way they enter and leave the classroom, distribute books and papers, and move their desks and chairs. In my classroom these mundane tasks are completed quickly, competitively, and with enthusiasm. Having routines in place helps students understand exactly what is expected of them and gives them confidence in their actions.
