In the movie Escape from New York, there are many examples of the topic Transportation. Transportation is when you move the people that are the problem away from society so they don't create any more problems for the people around them. In Escape from NY the took the crazies and trapped them on the island and barricaded them inside of walls so he couldn't get out. The people in the movie feared that if theses crazy people were in the society that they would be a major problem so what the did was put them on the island. When Snake goes over to the island of NY city he sees many things while he is trying to save the president. Snake witnesses first hand how crazy these people acted and they were not like the normal people who were on the other
side of the wall. When the crazies are over on the island the build their own type of society that has a leader and had much more power than everyone else who was called the “Dean”. All of these people were dressed in close that were all torn up and dirty and if they wanted anything they would have to steal it from others. There was no rules or anything while the were out there but that’s what happens. This is what use to happen in transportation when the leaders of England would sent their crazies over to places like Australia and the crazies would create their own societies over there and find out how to live on their own because they would have nothing else. Also, in this movie there is examples of The Pains of Imprisonment. We see this with things such as Deprivation of Liberty and how they have all of their rights taken away when they are put out on the island. The crazies are locked out there and they have to really make something out of nothing because they have nothing when they are put there they are just thrown into a giant city with the rest of the people who are out of their minds. Another example of The Pains of Imprisonment is, the Deprivation of Services and goods because when they are put out there they have nothing like doctors or food they have to fight for everything they want out there and it becomes very dangerous. If someone were to get sick out there they would pretty much die because there is nothing for them to do because no one really knows how to take care of the treatments that would be required.
In the book The Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton, is about two separate groups. One group is called the socs, and the other one is called the greasers. They have some difficulties getting along. The poem is called, “Nothing Gold Can Stay”, written by Robert Frost. The poem is about that sometimes we have had a long, busy day and then the next day will be a brand new day. These are some ideas between the book and the book.
Since the beginning of the United States the American people have been on the move. Public transportation has played a major role in the development of this nation and in bringing its citizens together. In the book “Divided Highways”, author Tom Lewis takes the reader on a journey of the building of the Interstates and the consequences(good and bad) that came from them. Lewis believes that the Interstates are a physical characteristic of America and that it shows “all our glory and our meanness; all our vision and our shortsightedness”(xiv).
Once, a wise soul has spoken, “Sometimes adversity is what you need to face in order to become successful”. Adversity means having troubles and difficulties. It’s what you need to persevere through in order to do something you’ve wanted to do for a long time. If you want to pass that test, you’ve gotta conquer your fears and fight through all the troubles that arrive in front of you. Become your own hero. Adversity is a situation that took place in the novel “The Outsiders”, by S.E. Hinton.
A man sprints through a dense forest, escaping an unknown terror pursuing him through the darkness from the treetops. As he keeps looking back, he cannot see what is chasing him, but he assumes it must be close behind him. Suddenly, his foot is snared by a protruding tree trunk and he lands face first on the tiled floor of his mental-care facility. His nurse helps him up and regrets mentioning to the man that she just recently adopted a child from Vietnam, which caused him to lash out. Obviously, the man suffered through a hallucination of his past in the Vietnam War, triggered through the nurse’s mere comment. He has done this and will continue to do this for years to come. This is because society forces the individual, through the aid of

In the movie, “A Bronx Tale” the story is about the life of kid named Calogero, “C” for short, living and growing up in a neighborhood within his own type of culture. The time is around the 1960’s when the Italian mob was seen everywhere on the streets showing power and being feared. But also you had racial tension with other types of people and in the movie that is seen when two neighborhoods start waging war against each were African-American neighborhood against the Italian-American neighborhood. The story begins with C being a child and witnessing a murder down by Sonny the neighborhood mob boss. The explanation for the way the system worked was based on fear. When the police went to question young Calogero his father even told him
Transportation is one of the basic necessities of human civilization. If there is no transportation on land, sea, or air, there may not be communication between human beings on this planet. But there are also side effects of transportation, which includes pollution. Pollution means the harmful wastes produced by humans which damage our environment in many ways.
Such were the conditions of the Underground Railroad. It was a fictitous railroad but served the same purpose: to transport people from one place to another. This railroad, however, was not sanctioned by any government, in fact if it had been discovered many would have died. The Underground Railroad was a huge risk. If you used it, and were caught, you could die. For some that was better than being treated like pack animals or breeding animals by their southern owners. That was a risk they chose to take and conditions they must endure.
Gangs of New York, directed by Martin Scorsese, vividly depicts the experience Irish American immigrants endured when first arriving to New York. This film is a look into the social issues that were rampant in the Five Point neighborhood and America in the mid-19th century. The main points the movie focuses on are intolerance towards Irish immigrants and the Civil War. The tension and discord amongst the citizens of New York from the Five Points would flourish as gangs fought for respect, land, and control.
First of all, according to Wright, in his article, Underground Railroad the term Underground Railroad started in 1830 when trains started to appear in America. The Underground Railroad was known to be a hidden network of people and places who helped escaped slaves from the south to the north, sometimes all the way to Canada. Slaves that travelled were thought to be a pack of men ranging from all ages but typically fifteen to thirty years of age (1). They travelled at night through the two main routes. The first route went straight north to Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. That route was mostly slaves from Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky. The second route took slaves from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware north through New Jersey (1). Other routes included Texas who would lead their slaves south over the Mexico border and Southern Florida slaves who would travel to the Bahamas or to the Caribbean. In New Jersey, slaves entered through Delaware and Pennsylvania and would move into New York. Almost all of the major paths have been identified within New Jersey where only two counties have been recognized with ha...
From its first moments, Brooklyn is both helped and blunted by its accessibility. John Crowley’s reworking of Colm Tóibín’s novel about a young Irish immigrant’s journey to America and combat with adaptation to her new world is subdued, in ways that this art form is lacks thrill but is full of emotion. The story is set in Eilis Lacey’s humble Irish hometown which is everything that us Americans would not think it would be. The town does not suffice to the painted picture of impoverished postwar immigration, but rather holds great emotion and subtle satire. Which is passionately and sensitively accomplished by screenwriter Nick Hornby and author Crowley. The movies originality is also many times saved from formulaic territory by our anchor Saoirse Ronan who portrays our modest and passionate Eilis.
The number of sites connected with the Underground Railroad was immense. The Underground Railroad was any direction slaves traveled to freedom. It was a huge scheme of paths through marshes, over mountains, along rivers, and by sea. No real trains existed on the Underground Railroad, but guides were called conductors. Runaways escaped to the North along a series of routes that stretched through the southern Border States (“History and Geography”). Slaves who escaped into the western territories, Mexico and the Caribbean, then tried to blend in with the free African American communities, which lived in these areas (Slavery’s Past).
For New Yorkers, The MTA is deeply embedded in our culture whether for better, or for the worst. One thing that is obvious is that our subway system is indeed breaking down and is in need of some serious reform. “The Subway” an art piece created by George Tooker in 1950 depicts, that’s right, you guessed it, the subway system circa the mid 20th century. In this painting I noticed some differences, as well as some similarities. Depending on how you interpret it, or from your own personal frame of reference, this panting might have different perspectives, or point of views. However, discussing this in class with some of my classmates, I soon learned that many of us had made similar observations. There are three main observations
Yelling, shouting, and arguing all around the room over an opinion causing chaos. When there’s a problem look for a solution and don’t base it off what others supposedly seen or heard. In the play “Twelve angry men” the problem is the jurors are blaming a young boy for stabbing his father with the descriptions from the old man who lived on the second floor right underneath where the murder took place, and the women who happened to get up because it was too hot and lived across the street and supposedly seen the boy stab his father while the train was passing by. Throughout the play all the jurors have their own opinion towards the case but jurors 3, 8, and 10 were the main ones who were causing the case to become chaotic instead of acting like
Transportation is movement of people and goods from one location to another. Throughout history, the economic wealth and military power of a people or a nation have been closely tied to efficient methods of transportation. Transportation provides access to natural resources and promotes trade, allowing a nation to accumulate wealth and power. Transportation also allows the movement of soldiers, equipment, and supplies so that a nation can wage war.
