Five Points is the setting of the movie. People live in Five Points are conditioned and trapped by the environment. One example is Bill Cutting. Because his father fought for U.S. and died for U.S., Cutting has a strong Nativism belief. The environment conditioned Bill Cutting and made him resent immigrants. As another example, being a witness of his father’s death, Amsterdam’s goal is nothing other than revenge for his father. This also trapped him into Five Points. After getting out of Hell Gate, Amsterdam can be a priest and go to a better place than Five Points. But he threw the Bible away and chose the path of revenge. A second chance is offered to him when Jenny asks him not to go to the duel and go to San Francisco with her. Agai...

For the first part of this paper you need some background on how the draft worked throughout our history (as Americans), and how it was socially perceived amongst the citizen of this great nation. For more than fifty years now we have had a peacetime military draft. "President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 which created the country's first peacetime draft and formally established the Selective Service System" (about.com). We have been very lucky that the military draft has only been used twice now, once for W...
One of our stimulus materials was music. Our teacher played 2 songs to the class, one of them was “Gangster Nation – Ice Cube” and the other one was “The Rumble – West Side Story”, both very different, but both about Law & Order. “Gangster Nation” is a more modern song and that is why it had a lot of drums and effects in the song, on the other hand “The Rumble” is a song in a musical and musicals rarely use drums, they mostly rely on the piano and maybe strings. The first song was very stereotypical all of the people wore baggy clothes and it had a number of gangs, but all of the gangs had a leader, however in “The Rumble” it was made unclear who was the leader in the gang, because all of the actors / characters were moving in unison and they
