To add to the difficulty of the trails is the extreme elevation changes. The re are ironically enough thirteen climbs which result in more than 10,000 feet of climb per loop. This is obviously accompanied by an equal amount of descent. One runner described it as climbing 100 floors of stairs in your first mile, going back down on second mile and continuing this for twenty miles. The course amasses an average grade of over 20% and between 50 and near 100 percent grade on the abandoned trails and bushwhacking sections. The grade is the reason that the trails have been abandoned or not built in the first pace. Each climb bears a unique name which in many cases gives a good idea of their nature.
The area surrounding the Cuyahoga River is notorious for being extremely polluted and industrialized. An exception to this is Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This area has a rich history and has been used as a source of livelihood, industrialization, and recreation for centuries. This rural oasis takes up nearly thirty two square miles in northeastern Ohio and is the only National Park in the state. It became recognized as an official National Park in 2000 and before was known as the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area. Cuyahoga Valley National Park preserves a rural landscape along the Cuyahoga River and serves as a contrast to the otherwise metropolitan setting.
Two well-known footpaths are used during this strenuous hill walk, crossing wild moorland and peat bogs. Exceptional panoramic views and refreshments at the Tan Hill Inn are some of the rewards.
Imagine a scenic, wild landscape with animals that roam freely, cascading waterfalls, and mountains that seem to scrape the pale blue sky. This is what one thinks when first hearing the name Yosemite National Park. Unfortunately, the reality is completely opposite. Yosemite is now under a federally regulated Class 1 area under the Clean Air Act, which is equivalent to the pollution of Los Angeles (“National Parks Service”). It is a sad comparison to the past John Muir, who first documented Yosemite Valley, to today’s reality. The condition of Yosemite National Park should be introduced to the American public in order to protect its historic beauty and significance, eliminate current pollution, and prevent future repercussions.

Good morning/ afternoon students, teachers, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Mieka Bedggood as some of you might already know. I cannot but help share my pride as a modern Australian. We have a lot to be proud of, especially our unique landscapes which includes, our distinctive flora and fauna, and, also our multicultural community. Firstly let’s recognise our world renowned landscapes.
Due to the geologic activity of tectonic plate movement, that movement forced the land to come together and form mountains. One of the highest coastal mountains in the world, Most of Mount Fairweather resides within the national park. It is one of the biggest mountains in the world. It’s elevation peaks at over 15,000 ft. Climbers must be well-skilled, aware, good judgement, and have plenty of experience before attempting to reach it’s summit. The reason for this is that national park doesn’t have a rescue team for high altitude to provide.
After a great night of sleep we headed out to the world renown mountain of Jackson Hole. It is known for being the steepest mountain on which a ski resort is set up. It is also know for having a great view of Grand Teton, one of the highest peaks in the Rocky Mountains. We could not have asked for a better day of riding. there was a fresh 14” of snow under our boards and after a little bit of exploring we found some great out of bounds and woods riding.
Have you ever looked off a gigantic cliff? Now imagine traveling 30 miles per hour on a bike with curvy roads with enormous cliffs on your side with no rails. This is exactly what I did with my family when we went to Colorado. From the hotel we drove to a bike tour place to take us to the summit of Pikes Peak. After we arrived at the building we saw pictures of how massive the cliffs were, but what terrified me was the fact they had no side rails. This observation was thrilling as well as terrifying. It was an odd mix of emotions, but I loved the adrenaline rush it gave me. My dad whispered to me, “ This will be absolutely horrifying”.
“In an hour and 40 minutes they run more than 15 miles over uneven red clay, dodging small herds of cattle and donkeys laden with sacks of potatoes…The route climbs more that 3,000 feet, from and elevation of slightly more than 6,500 feet at the river to nearly 10,000 at the peak, where oxygen is precious and a cruel wind slices across the face of the hill.” (Layden, par. 2)
Finally the most controversial request was for Quebec to receive a special status as a “distinct” society. Now it was near the end of the meeting, everyone was even more motivated by all that they had already achieved. This was true that Quebec was unlike any other province; technically they were distinct among the others. Although some Premiers felt uncomfortable giving one province a special status, they thought they had won so much already that it was not a big deal to just call them what they were; different. The problem with this clause is that Quebec took it as meaning the special status would give them advantages in court by ruling their distinctiveness makes them different than other Canadians. On the contrary, Mulroney did not intend for this to make them different than others in court, he meant it as just giving them the special status. Most Canadians at first were under the same impression as Mulroney, except Quebec.
Mesa Verde National Park, whose name can be a bit deceiving because the area is a cuesta, not a mesa, was “established in the year 1906 by Theodore Roosevelt in order to preserve the works of man” (“History & Culture”). “The only difference between a cuesta and a mesa is that a cuesta gently dips in one direction” (Service, National Park). “Mesa Verde was once home to the ancestral Puebloans living there for more than 700 years. They flourished here, building elaborate stone communities in the sheltered alcoves of the canyon walls. The park contains over 4,000 known archeological sites including cliff dwellings and the mesa top sites of pit houses, pueblos, masonry towers, and farming structures” (“Places”). The geology of Mesa Verde is what

Black Mountain Quarry The issue is the Black Mountain Quarry, which was set up in the late fifties by Peter Lagan from County Derry. The parties who are involved in the issue surrounding the Black Mountain Quarries are Black Mountain Action Group and local residents, the Department of the Environment (D.O.E) who will decide the outcome and Peter Lagan the present owner of the company White Mountain Quarries It is an issue because some local residents and the Black Mountain Action Group want it closed for environmental reasons and the work force needs it to maintain their livelihood. The main concerns of the action group and the residents are the dust, noise levels and the damage to the landscape.
