Juan Santamaría Day, is held every April 11 to commemorate his death, Annexation of Guanacaste Day, which celebrates Costa Rica's annexation of the Guanacaste province in 1824. It is celebrated on July 25th and Patron Saint Day which is the celebration of the Virgen de los Angeles (the Virgin of the Angels.) Another food that’s very popular in Costa Rica is arroz con pollo which is rice and chicken with sause and it is very
good. People in Costa Rica ride in cars, motorcycles, dirt bikes, planes and other ways of transportation. Back then the people in Costa Rica did not have cars or any other of the transportation methods in which I listed above, so they were forced to ride horseback of if they had more money, on cargage. If someone wished to go to another country they had to take a boat which was a fair amount of money and could take a long period of time. You could also get very sick and possibly die if you were to sail to places far away. People all over the world come to Costa Rica to see the beautiful landscapes and tropical rainforests but they also come to see friends and/or family. A lot of the time the elderly must move to a wormer and easier place to live that can give an elderly person an environment in which it is easier to live in when they are old. When that happens the grandchildren or the children of the elderly will come and visit them. This act is demonstrating “human environment interaction” which is needed to become a happier person.
The physical science of the two countries is completely different. According to the main speaker, Costa Rica is much smaller than the United States. It could actually fit in the state of Oklahoma about two and a half times (Northwestern Oklahoma State University, 2010). The population is a little different too. Costa Rica’s population is around 4.5 million, compared to Oklahoma which has approximately 3.4 million.
The climate in Costa Rica and Washington are close to each other. Both of the places get a lot of rain and small amount of rain. Both have a desert Washington has a desert in the east over the mountains and Costa Rica has a desert in the middle of the country where the rain can not reached. Both of the deserts

...elebration where it features a Mass with a rosary and a musical festival which includes food. Every year according to director of the Hispanic Ministry Office of the Catholic Diocese in New York, Sonia Casanova, the event gets bigger every year. The L.A. Fiesta Broadway event for Cinco de Mayo was expected to recognize Mexican American culture as well as bringing together the community. Also during Cinco de Mayo, there are speeches by elected officials and an education program. During the Feast of San Juan Bautista, the locals gather at the beach to cast off evil energies in Puerto Rico and in New York, the Puerto Ricans attend mass and have an award ceremony where a medallion is given to a community leader who has been outstanding overall. For National Puerto Rican Day, the parade thrown every year brings the community together to celebrate Puerto Rican culture.
Once named the friendliest city in the world, Puerto Vallarta in my eyes continues to carry that reputation. The people who live there are what make this place so special; it is my most desired place to travel to. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico sits along the coast of Banderas Bay in the Pacific Ocean. Along with having exotic scenery, they are known for having an exceptional variety of food. With the dark frigid winter creeping up on us, my head wanders to memories of missed friends and 90 degree temperatures.
femininity in regards to culture. The country of Costa Rica is considered an incredibly feminine culture, which means that stress falls more on caring and nurturing behaviors and overlapping emotional gender roles (Cultures and Organizations) as opposed to Canada that identifies as a more masculine culture. A masculine culture reflects traits such as ambition, stress on wealth and material success as well as more differentiated gender roles. Costa Ricans typically have more of a focus on the quality of life and caring and living with one another (Cultural Insights). The feminine characteristics of Costa Rica are also reflected in the way fluid gender roles are more prominent, as Costa Rica ranks first among Latin American countries regarding gender equality (The World Economic Forum). A large amount of women are present in both government and business roles, there is not a large distinction between men and women in this world. Also, women are involved in harvesting coffee, cotton and vegetables in and among the men (Countries and Their Cultures) and there is very high acceptance for women in the working world (Cultural Insights). What motivates people in this feminine country of Costa Rica is to enjoy and find pleasure in what they do rather then just working in order to live (Cultures and
Other counties also celebrate Cinco de Mayo like in Canada. It is not a big holiday there but they skydive there at the annual Cinco de Mayo skydiving show. They have Mexican food, Air time shows and they even have lessons. In Spain they don’t celebrate this day they celebrate the second instead. In Australia it is only celebrated in a couple restaurants where there is Mexican food and drinks. It is also only celebrated where there are largely populated Americans.
Hispanic food traditions in Spain are more “sacred and ritualistic” than American food traditions. They eat garbanzos, gazpacho, picadillos, pisto chock, eggplant, nisperos, higos chumbos, etc. It’s very common to eat fruit for a dessert. For breakfast it’s a no-no to eat eggs, instead its fruit or toast. Cereal is okay to eat if you’re a kid. Lunch is their main meal, and usually is a three-course meal. After lunch a la siesta takes place, which is a rest period usually for about two hours after eating. For snacks, Hispanics may have a pastry, muffin, or maybe chocolate milk. Dinner is usually a light meal. They have a somewhat strict eating
Prior to the colonization of the region now known as Costa Rica, meaning Rich Coast, approximately 25 indigenous tribes were thriving in self-established societies. One of the preeminent tribes of Costa Rica was that of the Chorotegas, with the tribe’s name translating to “fleeing people.” Over 1,500 years ago, the Chorotegas migrated from Mexico to the northwestern region of Costa Rica, now known as the Guanacaste Province and the Nicoya Peninsula. Mexican influence was evident in the tribe’s culture, as indicated by the Chorotegan language, Mangue, the primarily Aztecan calendar that they utilized, as well as other practices such as self-mutilation. The Chorotegan society was largely focused on the tribe’s polytheistic religion, with priests maintaining a high status on the social hierarchy. Additionally, agriculture played a significant role in the Chorotegan lifestyle, corn being the crop that was primarily harvested; cacao beans were utilized as a form of currency and crops were distributed to ensure that no one would go without food. Further, due to the fact that the Chorotegas frequently warred with other tribes, they established a strong military force as a form of defense. This military force would later play an

I learned more than I ever imagined on my summer study abroad trip to Costa Rica. I learned that Costa Rica is a country like no other. The country is much different than what the United States of America is like. The lifestyles, customs, and practices of Costa Rica are very different than those that I am accustomed to. As an outsider looking into the country, I saw a country that is very poor financially but very rich in spirit. They do not appreciate wealth as United States citizens do, but instead appreciate love and gratitude. I noticed that Costa Ricans have very strong family values and cultural roots.
In the general overview I am going to go over a few topics like history, geography, the political system, the economic system, and the cultures and subcultures of Costa Rica, and why it is so interesting to learn about them. Costa Rica has a brief but strong history on how the Spanish came to Costa Rica and tried to take it over however the geography and the wildlife had a play in how it was not so successful for them at first but how they eventually adapted to it. Now as far as geography in Costa Rica goes it has two different climates tropical and subtropical which can be broken down into dry and rainy season, the terrain is a little different there is coastal plains and rugged mountains which volcanos are a...

It is because costa is one of the countries that has the highest rate of crimes in central america. As an article from insight crime (2016), people were murdered approximately 566 people in the year 2015, and it was calculated from these number of the death that 11.5 people were killed per 100,000. These number will continue to increase gradually. It means the majority of people need to face with these circumstances for a long time, and this problem can lead to the decline of the GDP in Costa Rica. To illustrate, 3 percent of gdp in Costa Rica comes from crime, which means it almost as equal as the rate of the income that produced by 20 percent the poor in Costa Rica(Yagoub,2015).
