Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a word that is bandied about with really little regard as to what the full implications actually are. Consider a few thoughts: What exactly is a corporation’s responsibility? Who are the arbiters of CSR for corporations? What does it cost to “rein in” corporations? Why are some companies held to a different standard than others?
The role of CSR has become dramatically increased over a number of years due to an influx of social awareness by the general pubic and also by government. The demand for more ethical business processes and actions, known as ethicism, is increasing. Simultaneously, pressure is applied on industry to improve business ethics through new public initiatives and laws. The recent trend has seen an increase in the number of CSR reports being submitted from 2002 – 2005. In 2005 52% of G250 and 22% of N100 companies issued reports.[1]
The company’s strongest impact and contribution to sustainability lies in the critical parts of their business which leads to the success and diversity of our associates (customers), food safety, health and nutrition, strong supply chain, environmental factors, and community/stakeholder engagement and impact of the people along with the CSR initiatives.
It will be advantageous for the company if they can project themselves as responsible corporate citizen and an environment friendly company. Social enrichment schemes, recycling schemes and educational funds can be initiated to cater to this cause and long term goal.
Many vehicle manufacturers have paid more attention on CSR to sustain their business development. Environmental management schemes, green supply chain management and labor codes of conduct are widely recognized and implemented within the industry (Martinuzzi et al., 2011). Automakers also rate it more important comparing to other factors of the company. For instance, the disclosure of the general movement of social and environmental accountability, according to the established opinion leaders in the automotive industry, is increasingly positioned at the forefront of any economy and business context (Russo-Spena et al.,

...n Africa. As mentioned in the main body of the essay, the Indian oil company seem to be the leading the way as they look to be resolving all these issues by dedicating some of their time to solving serious issues of the world. Moving on, the advantages seem to outweigh the disadvantages because some companies who are using the CSR approach to show themselves in a positive light in the eyes of the public are, on one hand helping the problems in the world and at the same time, gaining good publicity. It is also worth mentioning that companies who are looking of finding new ways of motivating their staff then from the survey by Net Impact will be a real wind in their sails because by using CSR it will not only motivate the employees but also allow them to make a little pay cut. Surely, if these are the advantages of taking CSR then it will certainly be worth it.
Porter along with Mark Kramer. In this article, the authors emphasize on the importance of creating shared value on the strategic level of an organization vs corporate social responsibility which is viewed a separate moral obligation for the sake of company’s reputation and making profits. According to the authors, shared value must be embedded into the core value and strategy of business. What the authors of the article are implying is that awareness of social economic challenges is growing making them clearly visible. Businesses and their legitimacy are now viewed as part of the problem. CSR is considered as a scheme to make money and an area which is separate from its core business. Economists believe we should raise the bar and embed the concept of creating shared value on the core strategies of business. CSR activities are externally determined whereas, Creating Shared Value (CSV) activities are more company specific therefore understanding and legitimacy of value chain is needed for sustainability, for example the products and customers being served. CSR activities are limited to CSR budget whereas Creating Shared Value is mobilizing the entire budget of corporation to impact social issues. Creating Shared Value is a genuine way to restore the legitimacy of corporations as results are measured not just by profitability but by the social and economic value created. Companies who

Both of these areas are the lifeblood of the company, and any benefit to them should not be overlooked. Before a company can become proficient at corporate social responsibility, they must first know its definition. Corporate social responsibility is defined as actions that can be taken by a company to ensure they are adhering to ethical and social responsibilities of the day. These corporate social actions are self-regulatory, as a company strives to adhere to guidelines while also going above and beyond being a Good Samaritan in the business world (ECA, 2015). This can place certain businesses at the forefront in customers mind because of the example they are setting in the marketplace. A company going above and beyond the call of duty to work towards a more philanthropic approach in the surrounding community is a perfect example for corporate social responsibility. Going deeper into the definition, corporate social responsibility acts like a “double bottom line” for a company, as they strive to achieve financial goals, but also achieve their social mission out in the community. Once a company is aware of what the concept of corporate social responsibility is, they can now implement it and start to reap the many benefits of its
