Fashion designer, Perrie Samotin once said “Fashion is not necessarily about labels. It’s not about brands. It’s about something else that comes from within you” (Samotin). Fashion is one of the many things people use to express themselves. With this, you would think that people would not get offended by what others wear. Sadly in this modern world we live in today, people are offended by many things. A thing that is often considered offensive and inappropriate is the modern fashion and the industry that surrounds it. This is a short-sighted mindset. Fashion and the fashion industry are not offensive, the problem is with how people are too sensitive about things and want to blame anything but themselves for the problems.

People claiming that things like video games, movies, and jobs are sexist. Our modern clothing styles are no exception to these attacks. Most these attacks are targeted at shirts. There has been more shirts that are considered controversial than there has been in years. A shirts for girls saying, “I’m too pretty to do homework, so my brother does it for me”, are considered sexist by many (Booton). These shirts are just jokes and nothing more. People are able to look at shirts that say boys are stupid, throw rocks at them without finding it offensive as they know it is a joke, the same goes for shirts like this. With women like Robin Givhan saying “[W]hile there seem to be countless young men in the fashion pipeline who have been anointed as the next great designer, the women who are their contemporaries seem to be quietly plugging along”(Laneri). The truth of the matter is; if a man is better at a job, he will get the job. The same thing goes with women vice versa. Women are not getting the big jobs because they are women, it is just because there so happens to be a man that is better at the job they want. It is also said that due to having so many clothing styles, we cause discrimination. With so many different clothing styles, people feel like people get bullied for having a different style.
