Consumerism Project Rough Draft Cal Poly Pomona is a college that many people want to go to, not just because it has a beautiful campus but because there is a high acceptance rate of 39.3%. Cal Poly Pomona’s mascot is a horse and their college is surrounded by greenery where the college is geographically located. I also know that Cal Poly Pomona is a really big college that provides a major in engineering. I also like this college because it is close to home and I won’t have to pay rent at the college or close to the college. Another thing that really interests me is how beautiful and big the campus is. They also have a really good business program, which I want to major in. Due to the beautiful and big campus, the acceptance …show more content…
(Campus Tour Cal Poly Pomona) Cal Poly Pomona is best known for their engineering and their business. Cal Poly Pomona is also a very affordable school for me and it is very close to home. Another pro about the college is that it has a beautiful campus, horses, gardens, ponds, hikes, hills, vistas and many other geographical things. When you may be stressed or you are just sad you can go out for a while and take a hike or maybe just look at the nature there. Personally for me, I love nature because it makes my stress go away. Some of the cons of this college is the neighborhood. It is in a quiet part of town and close to Diamond Bar and Walnut, but the school needs more commercial activity immediately across and walking distance to campus. You currently have to drive to do anything. You cannot walk or else you get really tired .Looking at this college and how it is advertised my point of view of this college is that the cons don’t really matter because we can easily …show more content…
The pros of the jobs here at Cal Poly Pomona is that there are friendly co-workers and staff, the semester pay raises, free food when having major events, easy going work environment and it is a good work experience. Some cons of the work there is that working with faculty can be a bit troublesome at times, there is low pay for starting ITA's, a lot of software to learn, and self-training is necessary when finding a job there. There are many pros and cons based off the jobs but as one can tell there are many more pros in the college about jobs so that means that this college doesn't really have a lot of problems when finding a job. (Cal Poly Pomona Reviews) CSUSB has many jobs and many opportunities to be able to stay active around campus. Some pros are that that place has great benefits, good working conditions, great vacation time, lots of great people you can work with and they pay for your education while employed. Some cons of the jobs in the college is that it is hard to get raises unless there is a system-wide rase given ,which there has been in the last few years but can change at any time and based on the state budgets. So as seen it is very easy to get a job here and also beneficial to your education because while being and employee there they pay for your education. (CSUSB Reviews) Both of the colleges have very good reviews about the jobs there and how they
In the essay, “College Consumerism Run Amok” authored by Kevin Carey describe how colleges are careless with their money. Throughout the essay, Kevin Carey explains why normal people think the average price of college tuition has risen across the United States. People believe college tuition is rising because students demand colleges to have “creature comforts”, such as luxury dorms, a fully operational gym, and a climbing wall. Also, that the creation for “creature comforts” in colleges has caused academic standards to decline. Yet, colleges market to students with these amenities instead of showing students comparable statistics: the quality of teaching, scholarships, and academic environment. Kevin Carey, in the end, sums up his idea with
...Selecting a college to attend was a lengthy process. I applied to four different schools. I outweighed all the pros and cons of each college. The ultimate goal was to persevere and graduate with a degree. As a high school student, I think I found Ohio State appealing because of all the hype that surrounded it. Once I came to the conclusion that I wanted to go into the medical field, I realized that I needed to be in an atmosphere where I could maintain my focus. Nonetheless, the most consequential influencing factor was regarding finances. Case was extremely expensive but I received a substantial amount of financial help compared to Ohio State. In addition, I was fortunate to obtain a work study job that helped with living expenses. I knew that college would not be easy especially given Case’s reputation. In the end, I am confident I made the correct decision.
cons of each type of college that I researched. First I researched the difference between in-state and
1. The main idea is not only that owning stuff is not the key to happiness, it’s also that consumers today own more than they need to thrive which directly impacts the environment. Hill illustrates the environmental impact by showing statistics of global warming today versus the past century, and how consumerism is leading to a hotter climate. Hill debunks claims of buying happiness by discussing a study where stress hormones spike to their highest when people are managing their personal belongings. Hill’s most prominent example that consumerism is not the answer is himself, as he discusses some of the most stressful times of his life being right after coming into a large sum of money and buying whatever he fancied. When Hill concludes his article, he states that “I have less—and enjoy more. My space is small. My life is big” (213).
1. Costco claims to break all the rules in retailing yet continues to be one of the most successful companies in the supermarket industry. In the context of the four P’s, select four unique Costco tactics identified in the video and explain how each of them help drive Costco’s success in the market (5 points).
My experience at Ventura College meets all of what Hacker and Dreifus set as good college traits. Ventura college tuition rates seem to be very reasonable and also affordable to most people, most people don’t have to worry about being stuck with a debt that they have to pay after they graduate. Teacher’s quality at Ventura College is great, most teachers know how to teach and how to interact with students. The student teacher ratio is low with comparison to other big colleges. Most of Ventura College’s money is spent on students related activities, there isn’t a fancy cafeteria or a huge gym. My experience at Ventura College exceed the price I pay to attend it.
Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of Skagit Valley College, I still continue on with my life doing completely nothing about any of these areas. Skagit Valley College is excellent enough for me, mainly because I want to graduate high school earlier with some college experience. The weaknesses for the college and criminal justice classes are not a huge issue, and do not cause any problems.
These 3 colleges are amazing but there is one that matches with my ideal college the best, the University of Michigan. The University of Michigan compares very well next to my ideal college. It has a great pre-med program, it is the cheapest of all of the three, has great sports, and offers many financial aid programs. The University has a large campus and a medium size student body. There is no religious orientation and it has the highest rate of admission. This is why the University of Michigan is the perfect match to my ideal
When it comes down to choosing a college or a university to attend, the decision may be hard to make. Students often compare differences and similarities in their college experience between small and big schools when it comes to looking more into the learning environment, housing opportunities, and the entertainment provided.
The amount as well as the variety of courses, the school offers is unparalleled, and gives me an opportunity to be well rounded and very resourceful. Ultimately I am getting the abundance of tools to reach the potential I always knew I had, the type of potential my teachers, and my fellow colleagues have been preaching to me that I had, as if it was some type of banter from a fictional story. I would even go as far to say that when pertaining to personal development and even cognitive function, Rutgers will be beneficial; there is a lot of space and a lot of people with different characteristics and views, I would benefit from interacting with others, that respond to social stimuli in different
I am enrolled at UC Blue Ash and my experiences and relationships to the courses that I will be writing about will reflect the Blue Ash campus. I like the UC Clermont College and am fortunate to take the summer courses here but since I live in Indiana it is just too far to drive here. I was very fortunate to be able to take most of the courses at the Blue Ash campus.
I could not imagine starting my college education anywhere but Minneapolis Community and Technical College. The reason that I say this is because Minneapolis Community and Technical College makes me feel like family and very comfortable in achieving any goal that I may have. I came to Minneapolis Community and Technical College thinking that all the other students here would be a lot more advanced and superior than I am only because I took so much time off from school. Starting classes here my thoughts were completely changed by the way everyone was welcoming and eager to help me with whatever I needed. Another reason why I feel that Minneapolis Community and Technical College is a great place to get my feet wet is because of the small class sizes, that range from 18 to about 54 students, and convenient location from where I live. My commute, by personal transportation to campus is about 20 minutes or 5.5 miles away from where I live in St. Paul. Most four year colleges and universities would be hesitant to accept an individual like myself whose ACT ...
Consumption and possession are qualities that are almost inherent of western civilization. Since the introduction of public entertainment such as the radio and the television companies have found space in between the entertainment to try and sell their wares and services. While these commercials vary in sincerity and factual information one thing is very clear. Consumer culture, Advertisements and media are all intertwined in an effort to convince a would be customer to acquire trivial or otherwise useful products. These elements of consumerism have been carefully and unexpectedly crafted over years of being peddled various brands.
...e about what colleges or universities that you and I have taken because it also depends on your personality, family circumstances, and literacy. A chance never comes twice; a successful person, who is the right time to capture, makes wise decisions, and plus a little luck. Our lives will not totally change because of a good university or a great community college. Only we can change our lives' status; only we can choose what we want to do; only we can hold our lives on our hands. Studying in a famous or fancy university helps you have a good beginning of your career, but this is not the most important thing in your lives. You might choose the way where you feel comfortable to achieve your target. Don't let the education limit you, you should utilize it to help you climbing to the peak of your career. After all, I always remember that failure is a lesson for success.
Architecture and designs are two areas that I've always wanted to study. There are several reasons why I wish to study design at the University of California Los Angeles. It is well known for its superior education and research. It has a very good faculty and many facilities such as libraries. The faculty is highly qualified in the field of design and architecture. There is a wide variety of programs offered, which is an advantage to students. UCLA is a more up to date university in this field, especially with the new technology. The good student environment matches my life style. The students and faculty there are more international and intellectual. They are further more tolerable and more open-minded compared to other students in different universities. Also the Los Angeles area and weather creates a comfortable atmosphere and environment. UCLA is a well-known school worldwide. These are all reasons why I wish to study design at UCLA. My professional goal is to become a successful architect/designer. In order to achieve my goal, I must gain knowledge, experience and have a high level of competence. I want to have a career in the field of architecture with a well-known architect company. I want to contribute to the growth and progress of architecture and design. From the program at UCLA I expect to get a high quality education that will enable me to be successful in my future career. I also expect to be taught by highly qualified experts in this field. And I want to be exposed to the latest concepts, methods, and techniques in this field.
