An assistant plays a vital role towards the prosperity of an organization. Karen Otazo’s book titled “The Truth About Being a Leader” offers advice on the fundamental elements of leadership. The third truth discusses the prospect that many individuals will form opinions of a leader and an organization, prior to a formal meeting. This may be a result of an encounter involving the assistant. These encounters may cause individuals to form a predetermined notion of what the organization represents. For this reason, it is essential that the organization spend time selecting the proper candidate for the position.
It is essential that the requirements that the leader holds is included in the hiring process. Otherwise, the candidate will not be able to perform in a manner equivalent to what is requested. In order to do this, the organization must establish a constructive climate. A constructive climate is defined as “people shared perceptions of the way things are in an organization”(Francolini, Constructive Climate). When hiring employees, specifically an assistant, it is essentially that a leader applies a transformational form of leadership rather than transactional. A transformational form of leadership occurs when the leader believes that his/her followers are competent and full of potential. This book serves as a guide for future leaders of America and will set the examples of what not to do in leadership positions. The lessons we can take from these soldiers can help us as potential leaders to become more competent and effective. The fact that this book focused on the hardships, poor decisions and sound judgment of the soldiers it helped emphasize on what was not the best choice of action and leaves a moment for you as the audience to think how you would of done it better. So right or wrong there was a lesson to be learned and the book did a good job including the reader. This book puts you in the shoes of a small group of soldiers from the 502nd Infantry Regiment and gives you an up close and personal take on the experience of the soldiers, from the bottom of the the ranks all the way up to the commander. 502nd Bravo Company 1st platoon deployed in the fall of 2005 into one of the most dangerous battle zones in Iraq known as the “Triangle of Death”. These leaders focus on personal qualities, personal beliefs, and social characteristics. For example, a leader’s personality and social attributes might have a positive or negative effect on the public sector. Many problems ally with the trait theory in regards the courses of effective behavior that depend upon the situations. In the case of Kim Davis denying the right for a same-sex to obtain a marriage license, the trait theory is very much alive in this situation. Due to Ms. Davis’s personality and physical beliefs she refuses to obey her job as being an elected leader in the public sector. This compares to chapter one of our text book in that it says an effective leader is one who helps group members attain productivity. For the first part, I will pick up some perspectives which influence me most from this book. For the second part, which is my comments and critique about this book.

As a result, the success of an organization is often impacted by the leadership style and approach of its leaders.
