Concert Attendance Report
As a requirement for this Music Appreciation course, I was required to attend 2 classical performances. The first performance I observed was The Music Man, which was overall a satisfactory performance. For my second concert, I went to Lone Star College to listen to their music department perform. Similarly to the last essay I wrote about The Music Man, I wouldn’t have normally attended a performance of this nature before because this music isn’t my preference of genre. However, after listening to these performances with an open mind, I have become more accepting of this music type than I was previously.
The concert I attended was on February 15th at 12:30 pm, and was located at the Lone Star College music recital hall. The performance was, for the most part, well-attended. The recital hall itself can only hold a small capacity and out of those seats, the majority of them were occupied. “Sambinha” immediately became one of my favorites simply because of the relaxing vibe the song provided. This song reminded me of going to sleep on a quiet beach on a summer night, but again with a Spanish twist. The song has lower dynamics than that of “Chorinho en La mineur,” and has a much slower tempo. The pitch was also slightly lower than that of “Chorinho en La mineur.” and the texture allowed the song to expand on its relaxing tone with similar, but different notes played at the same time. This is my favorite song not only because of the relaxing melody, but the simplisticity of the song and how beautiful it sounds performed. Out of all the classical music I have listened to, “Sambinha” is probably my favorite one and following right after it “Ode to Joy” by Ludwig van
