The two concerts that I chose to go see were Stanislaus State Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensembles & Combos Concert. These two concerts are both very similar yet different in their own ways. Each piece also has many attributes to contribute and it was fun being able to watch two very different genres. For Stanislaus State Wind Ensemble the type of ensembles that were playing were brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. The instruments that I heard and saw included the flute, trombone, French horn, piccolo, tube, trumpet, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, a bass, and the drums. At this concert there was no singing, only instruments; and in total there were eight songs that were performed. One performance that stood out to me during the concert was a song called Sinfonia #3 by J. C. Bach (Wind Ensemble Concert program). The reason I enjoyed this song was because it was performed by nine saxophone players. I would say …show more content…
The musicians were able to keep time by taping their feet, listening to the piano and drums play a steady beat, and along with a lot of practice beforehand. When it comes to the meter of the piece I noticed that when each musician was playing their part in the song the rhythmic structure would change. When the trumpet player and saxophone player were playing together the beat was steady and loud, but when they were playing separately the sound was not as loud, but the beat remained the same. Each instrument created a different feeling to the music, even though they were playing the exact same part. This song, Bishop’s Blues, was played in major key. I know this because the song gave off more of a happy and soulful feeling. When listening to the song you could tell that it was a blues song with a lot of gospel aspects. It wasn 't a fast song but you never got bored listening to it because the beat always kept you
On February 17th, I attended the “UIC Jazz Ensemble” at 7 in the evening. The concert was located at the Illinois room in Student Center East. The concert director was Mr. Andy Baker, and he is one of the music professors at UIC. Besides, he is a lead trombonist of the Chicago Jaz Ensemble, co-leader of the sextet BakerzMillion. He is also a first-call theatre and studio musician. The lights in the room were pretty dim, and the room was filled with audiences. I noticed that there were a total of nineteen musicians performing that evening, and a lady jazz singer accompanied the musicians throughout the concert. There were sixteen members playing the wind instruments, including the trumpet, trombone, saxophone, flute, and French horn. Some of them were standing, and some were sitting. Besides wind instrument, the concert also included a guitar, drum and piano into the performance. They were played by Edwin Garcia, Aaron Gorden, James Wenzel and Will Gingrich respectively.
The concert that I attended last Friday was an interesting one where I got to have some new experiences and learn about classical music.
The jazz band I observed played a series of six different songs. Although all the songs were categorized as jazz, each song had its own special style and sound to it. The band consisted of three different players. Paul Meyers, the guitarist and composer, Andy Eulau, the bassist, and Dave Rataczak, on drums. The songs performed were entitled “Love for Sale” by Cole Porter, “Once I Loved” by Antonio Carlos Jobim, “Stars” by Paul Meyers, “Blues for Mel” also by Paul Meyers, “Last Night When We Were Young” by Harold Arlen, and “Samba Novo” by Luis Eca.
The majority of the pieces featured a rather slow steady beat, provided by the drum and the piano, while the other instruments (mainly the brass section) were used to play the main motif along with some minor ornamentations. The third song they played, one of my favorites, was simply a steady 4/4 tempo kept by the drum, with some minor variations. The saxophone and trumpets took turns drifting in and out to carry the melody. The saxophone player delivered an entertained solo which consisted of very light and amusing trills, this created a very soothing and relaxing
I have been to many different concerts throughout my life but this year I experienced two exceptionally unique ___ that I had never seen before. The first one was a spectacular chamber recital that took place at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performed by pianist Yefim Bronfman and violist-violinist Pinchas Zukerman. The program included Schubert's Violin Sonatina No. 2 in A Minor, Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 7 in C Minor, and Brahms’ Viola Sonata No. 1 in F Minor. The second was a performance by the notable quartet “Anonymous 4” presented by the Universality of Chicago at the Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. The program included a series of medieval French motets from the 13th Century French polyphony, taken from the Montpellier Codex. The two performances were extremely different in nature and but at the same time very similar in what they were trying to achieve. For instance, while the first concert consisted entirely of an instrumental performance, the other was exclusively vocal. However, both were able to bring to life great examples of iconic artists from our past. I left both c...
...xcited to have this experience. Part of the drama of the concert at first is felt when the musicians come in and sit down and begin tuning up their instruments. I would not be able to comment on the performance of the orchestra. During the performance, I seen the audience were moving with the music, but I felt like that everyone seems knows more music than what I learned throughout this semester. After I went home and did some of the research on these music I finally understand why these people like to attend the orchestra concerto, it was because that every piece of music has a history behind it. The Los Angeles audience seemed to me to be people who know music and who will listen to something new in a respectful way. All the same, when the more familiar sounds of the last piece were heard, I could feel a little sense of relaxation and fun coming into the room.
I enjoy and listen to variety of music from classical music to rap music. I have attended many concerts, mostly symphony bands concerts. However, interestingly, through whole my life, I have never experienced jazz music and I have never been to jazz concert. Therefore, it was hard for me to decide which jazz concerts would give me most pleasure and exciting experience. I researched for jazz concerts listing and I have decided to go to the Ron Eschete Trio Concerts because it was held closed to my house and was free.
Throughout this piece there was stop time breaks which tended to last for about four beats, while the bass player continued to play along to the beat. Every musician had a solo throughout this piece of art. The pianist played on the beat to where his left hand was giving the ‘oom-pah’ and his right hand doing the comping. There was not much of and expression in the pianist compared to the Josh Holland playing trumpet, Andrew Venet playing bass, and Ryan McDaniel playing drums. There were no blue notes being played, this song was just playing behind the beat. Lastly, this piece tends to have a long vibrato throughout this piece of work.
A wind ensemble performance is considered an art concert due to the fact that it performs music that is composed from the past 5 centuries. Having a diverse instrumentation not only provides a large variety of music, but as well as producing a flexible ensemble. As I stated before there were fifteen different instruments in the performance, which were the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, double bass, percussion, drum set, harp, and piano. Having a variety of instruments helped produce a
The Laidlaw Preforming Arts Center’s spring concert for the Wind Ensemble was a great production to show the community the talents students have. Most of the pieces had a nationalism feel to them, but each one was much more different than the next. The student of this band did an exceptional job of conducting and playing during this concert.
In conclusion, the concert was really interesting and I enjoyed myself. In my opinion the two pieces that I really like in this concert, are Sounden Horn and Polonaise from Engine Onegin, the shift between the melodic lines and the element of beauty is what made me like it. In the future I would recommend it to my friends and I will not mind to go with them at all. This kind of music is the best to me by far.
The concert I chose to attend was a jazz concert. I felt like jazz might be the best beginning choice for me because it’s relatively easier to understand than some of the other music types. Emotions seem to be more easily communicated in jazz and the message conveyed is often easier to recognize. Also, the exciting and lively mood jazz music gives off instantly attracted me to choosing this genre to attend a concert for.
Music is an art that binds everyone together. It has no language and can translate into multiple forms. Music is a soul stirring way of rejuvenation and thus, concerts are held worldwide to mesmerize people. American music is very popular across the globe. Asians, British and Australians love American music equally and thus, make it a point to attend such concerts in their own countries. American musicians showcase the immense rich heritage of their music across continents to increase awareness and encourage people to learn American music. Jazz is one sort of musical form that is very popular in almost every country. It originated in the African-American communities in the USA and uses several forms of beats and rhythms to create a peppy,
In my personal experience in an attending a jazz concert in San Antonio I can say I really had a memorable experience. My jazz concert had taken place on September 27th at the Esquire Tavern in downtown San Antonio at the 3pm. The band that was performing was called the Doc Watkins Trio in which I later found out was a branch of the South Texas Jazz. When I had finally arrived and soon later consulted with the musicians it came to my attention it wasn’t the actual band but musicians that do perform for South Texas Jazz. I was not quite sure on how it worked but was told the “actual band” plays here but they rotate on Sundays. During my experience I was able to identify many things about them and enjoy a nice lunch with my mother while listening
For this classes purposes I would tell anyone to go to this concert, but I am not sure I would tell my friends or family to go. After being to the venue, and seeing how they have changed the layout I love this place for concerts but for this particular concert I fell as though it needed to be in a bigger space. There were so many people that attended the concert and after a while it was very crowded. The music was okay and there were some great moments but I believe that the concepts and media involved needs to be improved before I can call it an excellent concert. For recommending this concert to the class, I would provide the links to their website because this venue host other great concerts every day of the week, and people might want to attend some of the other concerts that they
